TTC plus size?

ttc97 · 24/08/2020 20:26

Hi lovelies..
just scrolling through Mumsnet as usual 😂🙈 and one thing has come to mind...
Is anybody else classed as 'plus size' and TTC currently?

I'm a size 20-22 in some clothes, and am trying to make a conscious effort to eat healthier etc to make TTC and falling pregnant a little easier for me.
I was just wondering if anybody else is in / has been in the same boat? If so, how long it took to fall pregnant etc etc.

I'm more worried about not looking 'pregnant' or having a nice little bump when the time finally comes 😂🙈🤷🏼‍♀️ these things play on my mind!

Xx

@andpeggy1 don't worry its a new abbreviation I picked up on mumsnet lol. BD= Baby dance i.e. intercourse

I decided to post my meals for today
Breakfast : 1 weetabix biscuit, greek yoghurt, Some cashew butter, a chopped up date and some honey
Snack 1: Black eyed beans (my 1 weetabix biscuit still left me hungry lol)
Lunch: Brown rice with some lentil and spinach curry
Snack 2: Rice cakes with some cheese and chilli flakes (weird I know)
Also had 1 cup of tea with artificial sweetner and a hard boiled sweet to get rid of my sugar cravings.

I do intermittent fasting so I stopped eating at 4pm.

Let me know how you guys got on. I've weighed myself today and will post how much I have lost next week on Friday.

pikapika88 · 28/08/2020 19:47

I'm also a size 20-22 and after spending months saying we will try when I have lost weight, finally decided to just get on with it. Now that we are officially trying I'm instantly finding myself being so much more healthier.
Of course there are higher risks involved, but at the end of the day they are just risks and not a certainty, also means that will be given a bit more care, which can't be a bad thing.
My friend conceived her baby at size 26 and her daughter is perfect! And she had a baby bump x

ttc97 · 28/08/2020 20:18

@pikapika88 aw thank you so much for sharing this, it's made me feel so much more confident in myself and the fact it still can happen! I agree, extra care can't be a bad thing! X x

Thanks @Elakiya for the explanation! Can't believe I couldn't figure that out. Lol!

@pikapika88 that's so encouraging to hear of a positive outcome. And yes extra monitoring isn't exactly. Bad thing either! I get so stressed out by all the negativity around this topic it actually gives me anxiety. The thought and feeling of having to drop 15 bmi points by April is just too much. I personally don't mind being overweight whilst pregnant etc, the stress for me will be if we try with no success, after a year and I'm still overweight the nhs will just flat out refuse to help look on to infertility

Sunshine2243 · 28/08/2020 23:36

Hello! I've been reading up about folic acid intake and apparently people in overweight/obese bmi levels are advised to take more folic acid than the 400 normally recommended. This is under doctors prescription. I wondered if anyone was doing this or, had already been pregnant and done this or, knew anyone who took more folic acid than 400?

pikapika88 · 29/08/2020 06:55

Yea I saw this too. For now I am just taking pre pregnancy vitamins which contain folic acid and as soon as I know I'm pregnant will get straight to the doctor. Tbh I am too nervous to go to my doctor beforehand and say I am ttc as I feel they will tell me why I shouldn't.

pikapika88 · 29/08/2020 07:07

@andpeggy1 yea that worries me too, the chances are that it will be ok though. It takes the average woman at least few months to conceive and up to a year is completely normal. I have read lots of people saying that they were trying dropped literally just a stone and suddenly conceived. I think just try not worry until it happens as chances are you will have a healthy pregnancy long before you need help. And if it doesn't happen then you definitely won't just get pushed aside for not having a low bmi, they can help with losing weight etc and 15 bmi points feels a lot (that's what I would need to drop too) but can definitely be done in 6 months if it really has to x

xoxochellexoxo · 29/08/2020 07:22

Im a size 20-22 and when starting TTC my weight never felt like it was going to be an issue but here i am in the 2WW on my 10th cycle, iv already had Day 3 bloods and they were satisfactory. Waiting for the fertilith clinic to start semen analysis on OH. If we have to go for ivf i will need a bmi of 30 and im currently at 38.6 so in reality it isnt all that much i was told to loose at the very least 2 stone, fingers crossed we all get our BFP this year Smile

andpeggy1 · 29/08/2020 09:38

@pikapika88 yea I know it's all achievable and it's all about patience. I'm not very good with waiting when I get somthing in my mind 🙈😂. I guess I find it daunting cause I think, I've lost 3 stone already n that's only made my bmi drop 7 points! Maybe you ladies will help me keep my nerve and help me practice patience!

Elakiya · 29/08/2020 10:14

@andpeggy1 let’s do it together. I am the same. I still have 12kg to lose and it’s been such a mission to try to stop myself from gaining during lockdown.

We can do this. I’m going to stop weighing myself daily as it’s quite depressing and will just weigh myself on Friday next week. Need to add in some workouts too.

ty1996 · 29/08/2020 10:27

I have been over weight in all three of my pregnancies, at first I was a size 16 (bmi stated I was obese) and fell pregnant the first month.. I never managed to lose my baby weight and was a 16-18 after this and fell pregnant in 1 month of tracking and trying and had a healthy pregnancy..I'm now an 18 and fell pregnant in month one of ttc.. good luck with ttc x

andpeggy1 · 29/08/2020 11:16

@ty1996 so how were your actual pregnancies? Did you have any complications (gestational diabetes) and how were you treated by all your healthcare professionals you encountered?

ty1996 · 29/08/2020 11:30

@andpeggy1 I suffered with high blood pressure but I had this before pregnancy's and had pre eclampsia in my first but my second was fine.. this pregnancy has been fine too however I'm high dependency because of my weight and blood pressure, but apart from that just treat like any normal pregnancy never really given any advice of any sort about being over weight, just treated like normal pregnant woman

Sunshine2243 · 29/08/2020 12:03

@ty1996 Happy to hear your pregnancies went well. Very positive news. Did they advise you to take any higher dose folic acid, over 400mg? How far along were you when you had the pre-eclampsia?

ty1996 · 29/08/2020 12:49

@Sunshine2243

Hi the doctor prescribed me a higher dosage of folic acid for this pregnancy, and I got pre eclampsia at 37 weeks, got induced 37+1 x

Muda · 01/09/2020 17:50

Hi everyone, i got my bfp!! 🥳 I am keeping everything crossed that baby stays as had an early mc in May. I called the drs today and the reception said the midwife will call in a few weeks. I asked about a higher folic acid because I’m over weight and she said the midwife would discuss this on the phone in a few weeks. Should I be taking a higher folic acid now or is it fine to wait a few weeks. The receptionist was new and hadn’t done a pregnancy referral before so just want to check!

Sunshine2243 · 01/09/2020 18:33

@Muda such beautiful news, so happy for you!Flowers I would stick with advice of the midwife/Dr re the folic acid, do you know your bmi?
I think the higher dose is only available on prescription also, so we can't get it until the midwife says so and if we need it. Interesting to know what they say about it, hope they get back to you soon!

Muda · 01/09/2020 19:12

@Sunshine2243 thank you so much I am over the moon! The advice was from the new receptionists and she wasn’t too sure on the process so didn’t want to not be taking the higher dose of folic acid when I should be. Wasn’t sure if any of you guys made sure you saw a gp for this as soon as you found out you were pregnant?my bmi is 38

CharityRoyall · 01/09/2020 20:50

Hi guys, hope you don’t mind me jumping on! I’m currently a 20-22 but have lost 3 stone so far this year, hoping to lose another 3 over the next 12 months or so (combination of 5:2 and running 3 times a week so not unsustainable).
Came off my pill 3 weeks ago and have started TTC straight away without even waiting for my period because I’m impatient haha. I’m 29 so age isn’t (or shouldn’t be?) an issue but my size does worry me. Never been pregnant before so the idea of dealing with medical professionals does worry me a bit though I’m very good at advocating for myself. I’ve been worrying a lot that being overweight will drastically affect my chances so it’s really good to read positive stories here.
Congratulations @Muda !!!

Pipperleen · 01/09/2020 21:08

Jumping in to share another positive story - I was a size 18-20 when we conceived. Managed it on the first go and I am now 38 weeks along.
Took folic acid following first midwife appt, blood pressure has been normal throughout and have had extra growth scans towards the end. I have put on about 5lbs this pregnancy and have been signed off from the consultant now. Looking forward to our little one’s arrival v soon!

Muda · 02/09/2020 06:36

Congratulations @Pipperleen that’s great to
Know. All the best for your little ones arrival!

DontFadeAway · 04/09/2020 11:25

Hi ladies, can I join? I'm currently a size 16 having lost nearly 6 stone... I still have a long way to go, my BMI is very high..

However, this happened this morning! My BFP! 👀 I'm full of both excitement and fear. I'm so scared of being "lectured" by the midwife. My OH is telling me not to worry and there's many plus size women having heathy pregnancies and babies every day.

So lovely to hear some positive stories and try to put my nerves at ease! ✨

TTC plus size?
xoxochellexoxo · 04/09/2020 12:39

@DontFadeAway thats such lovely news! How long have you been TTC xx

ttc97 · 04/09/2020 12:42

@DontFadeAway how amazing! Huge congratulations 🥳 xxx
