I read that if you take evening primrose oil beyond ovulation it can lead to problems with implantation/miscarriage so I’ll maybe take it just h til I start getting high opk readings then stop 🤷🏻‍♀️

stepmumSW5 · 16/08/2020 20:57

I second @Stabal's words

Stabal · 16/08/2020 21:06

@LT103 if it helps, omega 3 is supposed to be good for it too and it's fine to take if pregnant. That's why I've gone for taking it. It also helps with the absorption of coq10

Hi all! I’ve been reading all your messages and I’m sorry to jump on!

We’ve been ttc since March and this the first month I’ve done opk tests and it’s starting to look like I may not be ovulating ☹️ My cycles have always been like clockwork but I have gotten severe pains needing A&E at different times in my cycle twice in the past 6 months. I’ve been using One Step tests but only gotten a faint lines and according my Premom app today was my ovulation day (on calendar)

Does anyone have any advice about starting better testing? I hate to bother my gp with coronavirus but should I speak to them?

Sorry for hijacking your group! Just feeling like a sorry sally at the moment with all the pregnancy announcements around me x

LT103 · 16/08/2020 21:37

I use Femometer opk test strips and start testing from cd 8 up until I get my peak and then it falls. I also check my basal body temp Each day and record it as a peak opk doesn’t mean you definitely ovulate, just that you’re trying to. You need a peak opk followed by a Rise in temp to confirm ovulation.

However if you’re worried, def speak to your doctor, even a phone consults to discuss your concerns. I was worried about a few things in my cycle and my doctor was happy for me to get day 21 progesterone (not necessarily d21, that’s based on a 28 day cycle. It’s to be taken 7 days before af if you know when it is likely to come) and that will show for definite if you are ovulating. It might be a good starting point

LT103 · 16/08/2020 21:38

@angc30 sorry meant to tag you

Stabal · 16/08/2020 23:32

@angc30 hiya! Firstly don't panic, OPKs don't work for everyone! Are your cycles still regular though more painful? If you're having somewhat regular cycles then it's more than likely you are ovulating. I would definitely get in contact with your GP and say you've been doing the OPKs and you're curious to know if you're ovulating. They'll do 21 day bloods as @LT103 has said. It's a good starting point. Also was there a cause for your pain? Did they investigate?

RobinRose · 17/08/2020 11:18

Hello! 👋 hope there is room for one more? I was on a thread a few months ago but got a bit lost (it moved very fast) Been ttc for almost a year! Af ended yesturday, trying smep and conceive plus this month🤞

Hope everyone is ok 🌻

What did the docs say about the pain? Ive had really horrible pain 2 3 times in the past aswell but took ibrufen and it went away. Probablyy should have get it checked too
Mia1985x · 17/08/2020 12:44

Hi @angc30 I echo what the others are saying and have found some months a peak OPK can come from nowhere rather than gradually getting darker and some months I dont even see a true positive OPK (think I can miss my surge sometimes) I would suggest temping your BBT each day as it's a great way to confirm ovulation and there has not been a single month in my 19 months of TTC where temping hasnt worked for me.
I was the same as you about not wanting to bother my GP in these times but ended up contacting them a few weeks ago to get the ball rolling due to the length of time TTC and also recently turning the grand old age of 35 haha. In the space of a short few weeks I have had a telephone appointment with my GP, had my day 21 bloods done (results back and ovulation confirmed), my OH has had semen analysis done (awaiting results) and I have a consultation booked in with a fertility specialist next month (based on referral my GP done). So I would definitely suggest contacting your GP as all of these services now seem to be back up and running. Best to always get the ball rolling with these things early and put your mind at ease. I really wish I hadnt waited so long to contact them.

Welcome to the mad house @RobinRose the more the merrier on here. Good luck with SMEP and conceive plus this month. I am doing the same (currently CD10 so day 2 of DTD today).

Stabal · 17/08/2020 14:31

@RobinRose welcome! Sorry to hear you've been in this situation for a year. Fresh new cycle for you!

I'm CD17 today and have lots of ewcm. I haven't had this much in quite a few months so I'm hoping that's the omega 3 helping! OH is super stressed with work but hoping I can manage to get him to DTD tonight

Iloveoreos · 17/08/2020 15:17

Since im new here.. and apologies if this comes across as silly but is there an app for this forum to read/reply to posts

Stabal · 17/08/2020 15:44

@Iloveoreos Yeah there's an app. But I prefer the website. The app can be a bit detrimental!

angc30 · 17/08/2020 16:30

Thanks for the advice! Already made me feel loads better

@lt103 I haven’t taken my temperatures at all I’ll do an amazon order for one today!

@Stabal they’re always regular but af has always been painful and heavy for me. No reason, I’ve just been referred on but I was told it’s likely to be a while bc of corona.

@mia1985x Thanks for the wee confidence boost! I’m going to phone the GP tomorrow morning to see about 21 bloods done.

@iloveoreos it’s not been properly investigated really. I’d hate to complain about the health service bc I really think they’re doing their best. In March my GP sent me to A&E bc he wanted to rule out appendicitis and it ended with the consultant saying it’s not appendicitis might be cysts (last thing I wanted to hear) and sent me on the way with cocodamol. A couple weeks ago I got sent done to rule out appendicitis again and I had a junior dr who was fab and she’s referred me to gynae but she did say it’ll likely be a while 🙃

Stabal · 17/08/2020 19:57

@angc30 really good that they're regular! There's a good chance you do ovulate. Though if they're suggesting cysts that could be why your readings on OPKs are off. Some people have a steady amount LH all the time so they don't have a surge at ovulation. A few months before my miscarriage and when we first started trying 2 years ago I never got a surge, there was always a 'high' line and that's because I have PCOS. Thankfully now I seem to see a surge since my miscarriage so that's helpful alongside temping. Without temping I wouldn't know where I was, I wish I'd started it years ago!

butterfly5291 · 18/08/2020 11:22

Hi everyone

CD13 today I'm trying the CB fertility monitor this month, yesterday and today I got a high reading on that. Femometer OPKs are showing no line at all though. Do you think it's still too early to get a line on them? I ovulated CD16 last month.

I also can't tell if I have any CM at all. Is it normal to not really get any?

Stabal · 18/08/2020 11:34

@butterfly5291 if I remember correctly cb looks for 2 sets of hormones not just LH which would explain why it's picking up one and the strip OPKs aren't so I wouldn't worry too much. LH can come quickly or slowly so just keep testing 😊 as far as ewcm is concerned it's perfectly normal not to notice any. Loads of women have got pregnant without having it but it's meant to be helpful. This is the most I've had in a long time this cycle and I'm hoping it's the omega 3 helping

butterfly5291 · 18/08/2020 12:37

@Stabal yeah CB fertility monitor checks estrogen and LH. I'm just so keen to see a line on the ICs too for some reason. We are DTD every day anyway BDO think we'll be covered.
I've still got people telling me to relax and being stressed will stop me from getting pregnant! Even though I explained that's only if you are so stressed you are making yourself ill.

Stabal · 18/08/2020 14:44

@butterfly5291 it will come! I know mine is slow building so I like to be testing for at least a week but once you get to know your own cycles you'll start to see when you need to start testing. I absolutely hate the relax and don't stress or put pressure on yourself crap. Even though it's when we stopped the tracking and totally put TTC out if our minds because I was waiting on fertility tests that I actually fell pregnant lol it still riles me up!

Stabal · 18/08/2020 19:32

I just thought I'd show anyone worrying about not getting a peak on OPKs how fast it comes. You can see how it's come on since this afternoon. It could still get darker so will do another around 10.30 and see if I catch it

Iloveoreos · 18/08/2020 21:22

So AF came early this cycle. (Cd 32) i usually have an average of 38 to 40 days and this cycle i started taking maca root on alternate days.wondering if that caused it. Anyone had similar ? Now on to this new cyclw for ttc ..

butterfly5291 · 18/08/2020 21:38

@Stabal thank you for sharing that. I tested again this evening, made sure I'd not drank much to get it concentrated bit still no line. Will keep going!
Although currently not speaking because of argument about prenup! 😭

Stabal · 18/08/2020 22:10

@Iloveoreos that sounds promising, maca root is used to regulate cycles so decreasing the days is a good sign unless it only reduced your luteal phase. Do you know when you ovulated?

@butterfly5291 oh no! Your own prenup?

Iloveoreos · 18/08/2020 22:16

No missed tracking ovulation on time. Started tracking on cd 26 facepalm
Ive never really paid attention to ovulation or its symptoms until this cycle . Once af goes ill try tracking regularly . Ive read maca does help with ovulation and those ladies who had trouble ovulating had success with it.

Stabal · 18/08/2020 22:24

@Iloveoreos definitely do just to be sure it's shortening the follicular phase and not the luteal but it sounds like it's working for you so 🤞😊
