TTC with SMEP

New thread for our SMEP adventures ❤️

Cycle days 1-7
◦ CD1 is your first day of full flow
◦ Stock up on Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs)
◦ Stock up on Pregnancy Tests
◦ Mark start dates on your calendar:
◦ CD8 = BD (“Baby Dance”/have intercourse/”try”) every other day until you receive a positive OPK (+OPK)
◦ CD10 daily OPK tests
Cycle day 8
◦ BD, and plan to BD every other day until +OPK
Cycle day 10
◦ Start daily OPK testing until OPK turns positive
+OPK day
◦ BD today, tomorrow, and the next day.
◦ Skip a day and BD one more time.
◦ Mark test day on your calendar: +OPK day + 15 = test day
◦ If OPK never turns positive, BD every other day until your period (AF or “Aunt Flo/Flow”) arrives or until CD35
Test day (or CD35)
◦ If AF has not arrived, take a home pregnancy test
◦ First morning urine (FMU) does not always yield the best results, you may wish to try with your second morning urine (SMU) or an afternoon test after a 3-4 hour hold (no liquids)

Cycle day 15 and Lh surge detected on CB digital with static smiley face. We dtd yday and now also have to do it for the next 3 days. FOUR in a row. Not sure I'm capable haha. Time to get that preseed out. Do the deed. Lie with my legs in the air. All the stupid tricks ha.

Haha @Vea1601 I suspect we might have to do 4 days in a row... I'm still early in my cycle though, cd9 today and already have ovulation cramps but hoping my body holds off until at least Monday 🤞

@SmileyT oh no I’m so sorry to hear about your miscarriage. It must have been so hard. But it’s so positive you got your BFP not too long later - what a blessing.

It was our first month trying last month :)

@Jilly1988 thanks for asking I am good thanks. When my period was due had very strange cramps for a few days but now I don't feel anything just wee a lot and waiting for sickness to kick in. I am 5 weeks today and have an early scan booked in for 2 weeks time. So a different TWW! I am really excited and being positive but it is in the back of my mind that something bad can happen. Not drinking around drunkard friends is hard!

Hey @serialplanner I'm on CD14 now, still waiting for ovulation, been getting twinges and high readings on OPKs but no peak/temp rise yet. Hoping not too much longer.

How is everyone?

Hi I'm on cycle 3 of trying so would like to get smep but I have long cycles, averaged at 42 days. Will it still work? What opks and apps do people recommend also?

@duckii I used Clear Blue Connected the bluetooth one.

I can't see why it wouldn't work? That would be a lot more sex though so if it's too much for you maybe adjust the dates but if you guys are happy with it crack on :)

This was our fourth cycle and third one trying SMEP (Although first try of SMEP was silly because I didn't get a peak on a OPK) and the cycle most sex we managed in the fertile period so we are extremely fortunate.

CD7 - low - BD
CD8 - low
CD9 - low - couldn't be bothered to BD so tested again before bed another low so skipped
CD10- low - BD
CD11 - straight to peak - BD
CD12 - automatic peak - BD
CD13 - low - BD
CD14 - stopped testing - BD
CD15 - tested because we were too tired to BD again - low - no BD

We didn't skip and then do another day because the last BD was a Sunday so we were let's just go tonight when we don't have work to be stressed about.

I was very relieved we BD'd on CD10 because it went straight to a peak.

The last two times were a force so hopefully the baby was conceived before when it was more loving hehe

So we followed SMEP but also adjusted when we didn't feel like it I think it's @Seafrontsky that said to go with what you want as a couple too which is good for keep the pressure off DH and also if you have to keep trying makes it more positive long term.

We were also using conceive plus and this month I didn't bother sticking my legs up after sex! Equally I didn't dash out of bed to go toilet after so was naturally laying down for a few minutes.

Can't wait for more BFPS!

Hi ladies, I hope you don’t mind me joining in. We’ve been following the SMEP as this is our cycle #2 ttc. I got a peak opk yesterday so DTD but not sure OH will be in the mood for it today (day after peak) would i still be in the running if I DTD tomorrow instead? Xx

Have you been dtd up to peak @Butterfly134, ovulation is usually 12-36 hours after peak, so there's a small chance tomorrow. I ovulate on the same day as my positive opk, so that would be too late for me I think. I think the idea of smep is so that the sperm is ready and waiting for the egg when it's released.

@duckii if you know your cycles are always longer, I probably wouldn't start the plan until a bit later, you'll be knackered otherwise and probably quite frustrated! Just dtd whenever you want in the first 3 weeks of your cycle then maybe start testing and going every other day.

I'm on cd 10, thinking i'll ovulate in the next couple of days, testing later as I only use the cheap opks. But that's usual for me, last month I ovulated on cd12, so we should be good with our timings 🤞

@VenusStarr hi! Yes I’ve been DTD up to the day I got my peak, so throughout my high fertile days. I was having some aching and cramping yesterday so not sure if I ovulated in the day I got my peak

That's good then @Butterfly134 :) if you can get one in today you'll be on the plan but you've covered the pre ov days so 🤞

Hmm, just done an opk and I think it's nearly there, my temp was slightly lower today. I think we will be going 4 days on the trot as today was our day off... Will test again later.

And good luck to all of the ladies trying SMEP this month. It worked for me and I'm now 12 weeks!

@serialplanner have you moved onto a pregnancy thread? Exciting about your scan, I booked one for the 7th August when I'll be 7w6 but feels bloody ages away 🙈

@duckii will definitely work but like the other ladies said I'd be chill until around CD20 then start the plan 👌🏾I used CB connected and femometer cheapie opks and a few apps but my fave was probably femometer and fertility friend x

@SmileyT I was on Yasmin pill but came off it in December! I felt a lot better coming off it to be honest. Ok my skin went awful but my body just felt so much better

@SmileyT I haven't really they don't talk like TTC people lol not as fun so far - just a few comments.

I have booked one for exactly 7 weeks. I really want it to go quickly. I want to hear a heartbeat!

Morning all, big temp rise today, so I did ovulate yesterday. Think we'll dtd again today and have a day off, so not quite on plan but we'll have had sex 4 days before ov and one after, so hopefully have covered the timings. Also means I'm in for a shorter cycle again as I'm only cd11 today.

Is anyone else going into their tww?
