TTC Second but having no luck :(

Just wanted to see whether there is anyone else out there in the same situation. Had ds in july 2006. He was conceived straight after coming off the pill. We weren't even trying that hard and didn't expect it to happen so soon. However, would really like to have second and have been trying for 6 months. Thought I would catch early again but no luck so far. Want to have the littlies close together.

In a similar situation to you, ds was born in June 2005. Have been trying for a while but no luck so far. Don't know if it's "just one of those things" or the fact that I'm ovulating late in the cycle, or the fact dh has been on a lot of very heavy-duty painkillers for a long time, which may have affected his fertility I know we are both blessed in the sense that we're not ttc number 1, but it seems a bit more of a slap in the chops when number 1 was so easy. I also got pregnant in the first month of trying.

it can take up to a year, sometimes more to onceive naturally. Took me 6 months every time.

Tribpot have you seen your GP for advice yet? I'm worried that there maybe a problem. It may seem daft but I had a emergency c-section with ds and I keep thinking that this may have damaged something.

I know it can take up to a year to conceive naturally, but when it happened so quickly the last time you start to wonder.

I know you will worry, but try not to! (Better chance if you relax, as you prob know).
I don't think there's any pattern in conception - so if you fell quickly the last time, there is no reason that you will do so again or that there is anything wrong.

I am in the same position as you - trying for 5 months so far - and I'm doing the following:

  1. Vitamins and folic acid
  2. Eating healthily (mostly)
  3. Trying to relax
  4. Trying not to obsess!

Having said all that, you could visit GP - I think for couples who have conceived naturally before, they are willing to investigate after 6 months of trying. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong there.

I'm basically doing the same thing. Just started the eating healthy part this week. Have been taking folic acid, and trying to relax. Hope not to become too obsessive about it all.

I know how you feel - it took us 7 months to conceive no 2. and it felt like an eternity! I'm now 35 wks and can't believe it's actually only just over a year since we started trying! I hope it works for you soon xx

Can I join please? I'm on the 2nd cycle of ttc #2 so it is early days yet, but it took over 3 years to conceive DS and he is now 3.4. I'm approaching 38 so really do hope it happens a little quicker this time.

Hello - I'm an even later entry on this thread but am in the same boat. Conceived DS1 first month of trying aged 38. Now 40 and desperately hoping for another. My period should have started today but so far (sorry for detail)only a slight brown discharge - so have just done a preg test. Husband is out for the eveninig and the test is negative - feel very low. I know I shouldn't expect to fall pregnant the first month but 5 of my friends are pregnant and its getting me down. Cheer me up??

Another one here - dd born Jan 05, conceived v. easily, conceived again without trying last June but lost it in July - so now been trying about a year since m/c to no avail...

Why is it so traumatic second time around?? I was so shocked the first time I fell pregnant even tho it was what I wanted.

Bababooda - I'm ok, frustrated and fed up and have been through some really low points but am off on a relaxing ish (with 2.5 year old in tow?! ) holiday at the w/e and then after that intend to have acupuncture and get fit etc. I have had preliminary tests done which are all clear and dh is going to get a sperm test done this week hopefully. We can be referred any time now but I kind of want to give alternative treatment a try first (so will probably go and get the referal process started as it will take a few months).

I'm 'only' 32 so in that respect have some time on my side but always envisaged a 2.5 year gap between dc's so that is my main frustration.

Welcome one and all - hope that all of us only need our special club for a short period of time.

Wheely - my ideal gap was 2 years, essentially because me and my bro are almost exactly 2 years apart. Is your 2.5 years based on something similar? I feel a bit daunted about the possibility of sibs three years apart, I don't really know why! I have older [step] siblings with a bigger age gap and it doesn't really matter in the slightest, but it just feels wrong somehow. Sigh.

Same boat here.

33 stopped pill in Feb, started ttc in Apr, preg by Jun. Now 36 ttc almost 1 full year. My head hears the clock ticking but my body is ignoring it.

Babadooba - I went after about 7 months I think given that I had conceived twice easily. I wasn't sure they would actually do anything but thought if I at least got in the system it would help. As it was, they did start tests then. Given your age (if you don't mind me saying) I think a gp would definitely take you seriously after 6 months and it might be worth you going after 5 just to get started.

Trib - my age gap ideal wasn't based on anything really. Mainly I think that I gave up work to have dd and she is due to start nursery in September when she'll be 2.7 ish. I always thought by that time I would have another as it feels a bit wierd her going off for 12 hours a week and me twiddling my thumbs (or shopping too much).
As it goes, I have 2 older brothers the younger of the two is 3 years older than me and the other is almost 5 years older than me and I can safely say the age gaps have been nothing and have never been an issue. As it stands now, if I conceived this month I would have a 3.4 yrs (or maybe a bit less if dc2 appeared as dd did). But actually, someone just posted on another thread - the age gap you get is the one you're meant to have - and I think I just have to believe that.

Evening all,

Thought I would say hi on this thread. I started a similar one called TTC for older Mums. My story is on there but basically very similiar to lots of you on here. Lucky enough to conceive my lovely boy without too much effort and having too put in lots more effort, worry and stress this time round .

DH and I have an appointment with a consultant this Thursday unless we find out before then that we have hit the jackpot this month, AF is due any time around now. I am trying and failing not to read anything into fact she is a no show so far............Most months i don't get beyond day 27 and that is what i am on now but we shall see. I have quite easily resisted testing as I prefer to live in hope but will test on Thursday so as not to waste the consultants time if it turns out to be positive.

Until then I can dream...............

Hi All, just got back from a short break to realize that a club of TTC2 had formed. Babadooba, Wheely, Libralady, Tribpot, Twilightsurfer and Bobbydazzler lets hope that the club is short lived. I had no luck again this month I went through a couple of days where I thought I might have caught, but i was just late. Unusual for me as I usually have a 27 or 28 day cycle.

I'm 35, btw and DH is 38 so we would both like another before its too late.

Hope to here from you all again soon.

hi i had my dd june o6 it took me 18months to conceive so i started trying early this time and have been trying on and off since dd was born i am on my second offical cycle of trying (with clearblue fertility monitior) so know the situation and hormonall rollercoaster

Never tried fertility monitor.
Does it confirm or contradict the OV times you were using when you were ttc without it?

i am doing the clearblue trial at moment am in my 2cycle it has been good for pin pointing ov it kind of forewarns you with a high then you get a peak when you are oving as it reads the test stick for the different hormones last cycle was as expected but this one is a bit of a shocker as im cd8 and yest i got high so i should ov soon iv always thought (by cm) that i ov cd 12-14 so was bit confused but dp hasnt complained

Meandmy that's interesting news and really hits home for me. After reconstructing notes from my dd's babybook I had to have OVed earlier than normal. DH & I only BD once at CD7. I felt odd by CD26 and tested BFP on CD28.

This past year I've just been doing things by the book, so to speak. Focusing on mid cycle CD15 OVs. The babybook stuff made me think I'd been missing the mark. Your test results lead me to believe it's possible. I think I might have hit the target !
