TTC no 2 for older mums

Hi, I am 39 and am ttc no 2. I had ds when I was 36 and got pregnant almost at once. I have heard so many statistics and scare stories that I am starting to think it will never happen again for me. We've only tried for one month and I think I may have had an early m/c so am feeling a bit sad. But I would love to hear from others who are in a similar situation or have been or have advice.

This is my first post!; i have been dipping into the conception site for the last 10 months which is how long we have spent to date ttc no 2. DS is 27 months old now. I was 34 when I fell pregnant with him after just 3 mths of trying Now 37. Naively assumed would be even quicker second time round but finding that not to be the case and emphathising with the messages on this thread re the agonising wait, disappointment when AF arrives (or Hartleys as my DH likes to call it). I am also taking heart from many of the comments on this thread and v. pleased about Patrika's news who started it all off. I tried to start the process of getting tested to see if all ok at 6 mths based on advice that GP's will do this when you are post 35 but my GP was having none of it and told me to come back after trying for a year so I am kind off resigned now to doing just that but I will go to a different GP in the practice as the one I saw (a male) was pretty uninterested I fear. Please keep the positive stories coming especially if you have been trying for no 2 for awhile and then get lucky . Gotta go as my DS was put down for late nap this afternoon and is still asleep at 18.17!!!! Does not bode well for bedtime routine tonight!

Is this thread still live? I'm not ttc at the moment - still recovering from the shock of a missed miscarriage (discovered at nuchal fold scan) two weeks ago - but hoping to start again later this year. I will be 37 in July.

Until the m/c I had blithely thought that since my Mum had my sister at 36 and me at 41 I wouldn't have any problems with a 'later' family... but the m/c has made me doubt that. I know it's very common to miscarry blah blah blah and I am very lucky to have one DD already (just turned two) but...

Anyway - best of luck to everyone ttc at the moment and congratulations, patkica!

Hi Verso,

I posted on here when I think the thread had all but died.

Really sorry that you have suffered a MC.

I have read on other threads that unfortunately Patricka has also suffered one since she posted on here.

Wishing you well with TTC again once you have recovered from your MC.

I take heart from stories of older Mums who have had their children without problems so I am inspired by your Mum's story. Was she treated by the midwives/doctors as unusual at the time?

Take care.

hi there
not sure if anyone is still reading this thread. I posted on it way back in Feb and thought I would update with the news that I am now pregnant - 10+5. It took us 5 months in the end, nothing really but felt like forever. I am 38, will be 39 when the baby is born, all going well (with the baby that is - don't think there is much I can do about gaining an extra year . Had a slight scare when I had some bleeding at about week 6-7, but got a scan and saw the heartbeat so hoping that everything is ok. Fell really grotty and can't fit into my normal jeans anymore so there must be something going on down there!
Good luck to all other older mums trying to conceive no 2,
Clara

Hi Claraq,

Thanks for the news, gives me hope .

Congratulations to you, you did get there quickly in the end with your no. 2. I am going into my 12th month now of TTC but it only took 3 months with no.1.

I hope you don't have anymore scares and all goes well for you.

I am currently 37 and hope that I will have managed to have a baby while I am still 38, we will see.

Take care and thanks again for the update on this thread.
