TTC following an ectopic pregnancy

Hi, My DH and I have been TTC for the last 8 months and finally found out I was pregnant before christmas. Since then I have been in hospital and have been treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I was given a hefty dose of Methotrexate which has made me feel rotten and should induce a miscarriage soon. We can't start TTC for 3 months now which is really hard to take as it took us a while the first time - but everything will have to be on hold until the summer now. Has anyone experienced this?

hi cedar, how are you doing?

cedar12 · 12/06/2007 17:49

Hi Lissie I am ok. Didnt mean to ignore you this morning i had to go of and get ready this morning. sil had an op today so had her 2 as well this morning. Remind me why i want more it was ok really.
Looking forward to my appointment tomorrow and I am definatly going to ask about clomid as well as the ivf. It would be great if I didnt have to have the ivf. did your blood test show you were ovulating or is it just to give you a boost?

lissie · 13/06/2007 07:38

dont really know tbh. he didnt mention it in the meeting, so think that there may have been a prob with my day 2 bloods. good luck for today, will be thinking of you x

cedar12 · 13/06/2007 13:49

Well back from woking and we have decieded to go for it so will be starting ivf in July all a bit scary. Clinic has good success rates 50% chance it working. The dr only wants to put back one embryo as I am quite young and have had no problems concieving in the past, as my problem is tubal. Not sure yet whether to go for 1 or2 he think i ve got a good chance with one. And less chance of misscarriage etc if it wasnt twins. As I would have quite a high chance of twins.

lissie · 13/06/2007 14:26

i am so so pleased for you my sweet. its so exciting! what date has he given you? did you discuss clomid?

cedar12 · 13/06/2007 14:35

It will all start on day cd21 next month. About mid july I think havent worked out exact dates yet.
Asked him about clomid he asked wouldnt do me any good as I am ov and have a pretty regular cycle. He offered to do follicle tracking on the nhs but I decieded it wouldnt be much help as I know when I ov. At least I have got less chance of another ep with ivf any way.
Are you ok when do you start the clomid? You neverknow we might even ended up on a pg thread together!

cedar12 · 13/06/2007 14:42

Talk later got to go to work

lissie · 13/06/2007 14:42

that would be wonderful! we see the doc on the 30th and he will prescribe the clomid then.

did your HSG affect your ov/cycle?

Quattrocento · 13/06/2007 14:57

Sorry sorry sorry. You must be feeling rotten.

Had two ectopics, and lost a tube, but went on to have two children.

lissie · 13/06/2007 15:05

how long ago was your ep quattro

Quattrocento · 13/06/2007 23:34

lissie - had two - one in 1997 and one in 1998.

The most reassuring thing that anyone said to me through the hell of these ectopics and stuff is a friend sending a card telling me that his mother had lost a tube but gone on to have four.

I thought that my fertility would be reduced by 50% but it isn't. Can't remember the number now but it was something like around 70%. This is because (as someone has already mentioned) a tube can collect eggs from either ovary.

Good luck and sorry

cedar12 · 14/06/2007 08:03

Nice to here a success story quattrocentro.
Lissie I dont think the hsg really affected my cycle but I did get a few cramps but not to bad. But if you look back to april on thread I think this is when pink elephant had hers done and she had lot cramps etc so I think it pretty normal. hopefully it made your tube lovely and clear now. How are the cramps today. I had been getting really bad ov pains up until this month, but have been having reflexology and its really sorted it out.

harveysaunt · 14/06/2007 09:35

Hi Girls,

Got my HCG results back yesterday. At 4w 3d it was 1318 and today at 4w 5d its 2456. Its increased but hasnt doubled . Got to go back for a repeat test and scan on tomorrow. If nothing shows up on the scan ill be having a camera put inside (laparoscopy (sp) ) to see if they can see anything that way. Im absolutly shitting myself. I went on the EPT and came across a thread from one of the moderators. She said that an increase of anything from 66% is considered a good increase. Mine have increased by 85% so fingers crossed.

I go back tomorrow at 8.30am so hopefully ill know either way then xx

lissie · 14/06/2007 09:53

oh shit harveysaunt! how scary. what time's your scan tomorrow?

harveysaunt · 14/06/2007 10:08

My scans at 8.30am. I wish i never had the bloods done now. Whay did i do it.

Aitch · 14/06/2007 10:51

harveysaunt, congratulations on your new pregnancy, great news. that's a good tip from genidef about goiing to the EPT website, they're very helpful there. i had the same kind of pains, i'd have to say, and everything turned out fine for me. the docs said it was probably adhesions or old scar tissue pulling away as my womb got a wee bit bigger. i hope everything works out beautifully for you.

Aitch · 14/06/2007 10:53

hey, hey, hey, x-posted somehow... harveysaunt you'll know by now, i hope everything went okay. the 66% figure is right so here's hoping.

harveysaunt · 14/06/2007 10:57

Hi Aitch, my scans not until tomorrow morning. Wish it was today though. Glad that you've also said the 66% rise is acceptable. It gives me hope.

Aitch · 14/06/2007 11:17

okay then, seen as you've not had the scan i'll say out loud that i'd have been absobloodylutely delighted with an 85% rise.

my dd's hcgs went, at 4 and a bit weeks, something like 35, 57, the THREE DAYS LATER 81, then 147, then started to double... can you imagine the horror of the 81 figure? i was dying inside! dd is eighteen months old now and rather lovely. stick with feeling as hopeful as you can until we hear otherwise, make that baby feel nice and welcome.

Aitch · 14/06/2007 11:18

oh, and a laparoscopy seems a bit OTT, if you ask me. did they mention a transvaginal scan? (or fannycam, as it's known in our house).

harveysaunt · 14/06/2007 12:12

LOL Fanny cam .

Yeah they'll do the normal one and that one too. I was quite happy when i got my 2nd lot of results back but dr wasnt. She really scared me and then when she mentioned the laparoscopy i burst out crying. I think there being overally cautious because of the EP last time but at the same time there scaring the life out of me. Since the EP i did get pregnant again in the right spot but unfortunatly i had a MC. At lease i know that my remaining tube is a good one.

Gosh your HCG were low and didnt double either. I bet that you were bricking it. Glad that you had a good outcome. Your story gives me encouragement.

Im trying my best to remain positive and to be honest i dont think that it is Ectopic. Ive got no symptoms. Had a little bit of brown discharge on Sunday when period should have been due. Slight pain / ache on left side but thats probably down to everything stretching and plus i had this with the MC baby. What ever i feel or do i cant change anything. So im just going nto have to wait and see.

PLEASE LET EVERYTHING BE OK!!

Aitch · 14/06/2007 12:38

i've got to say i wouldn't allow them to do anything more intrusive than a fannycam. at your levels they should definitely be able to see something on a scan, they expect to see something after 1000, generally speaking.

lissie · 14/06/2007 21:25

agree with aitch, try to think positive sweetheart, i really hope this works out.

cedar12 · 15/06/2007 07:35

Harvey I hope everything works out. Have got everything crossed.

lissie · 15/06/2007 07:37

good luck harvey x
