Advice re OPK please-very early smiley face

StrawberryMojito · 02/06/2013 09:49

This is my second month using an OPK (clearblue digital that tells you when you are both high and peak fertility). Last month I didn't get a high fertility sign at all (flashing smiley face), it just went straight to peak fertility (fixed smiley face). This was on day 12 which was a couple of days earlier than expected but still seemed normal.

I only finished my period a couple of days ago but started using the opk straight away as my cycles vary a bit (26-30 days). Today (day 8) I got a high fertlity sign. Surely this is too early?

So, we had sex last night just for fun rather than baby making but now I'm thinking should we do it again tonight as I got the high (but not peak) fertility sign or shall we just start doing it every other day until I get the peak fertility smiley face. I don't want to exhaust DH and his swimmers but don't want to miss the window either.

Agh! Bollocks! Sorry to hear that strawberry. I hope you have a fantastic night away.

Nothing to report here. I'm showing PMT symptoms but af not turned up yet. I'm sure she's just around the corner though.

Bambi27 · 19/06/2013 11:55

Tbh after my initial hopefulness that has now subsided and feel af will come for me 2 :(

charleylarlie · 19/06/2013 13:38

Sorry to hear that, Strawberry. At least you can have a drink though. I also keep feeling like AF is on it's way too. Not due on until next week though, so I either have a frustrating week ahead, or it'll turn up early. I reckon it'll turn up early, just have a feeling. No other pg symptoms.

BNmum · 19/06/2013 19:39

Hi strawberry, are you still bleeding? Just wondered if it was definately af? I had a look back at the thread and you started bleeding 10 days after ov, without getting our hopes up, are you sure it's definately not implantation bleeding? It does sound like a really short cycle, I thought you were usually 30days?

Nothing to report here, still feeling 'full and heavy' like af is just around the corner.

What's making you (bambi & charley) feel like af is just around the corner?

Bambi27 · 19/06/2013 20:36

I also thought about an implantation bleed...but didn't want to get your hopes up!!

No idea, I did that early test and made me question all 'symptoms' I'd been feeling. Feeling like a bfp will never come!!!

charleylarlie · 20/06/2013 07:11

Yes, don't rule out implantation bleeding, Strawberry.

I'm getting pre-menstrual cramps here, which is making me feel like AF is imminent. I know they can be symptomatic of pregnancy too, but don't want to get my hopes up.

Although, had bleeding gums last night, which I've discovered can also be an early symptom, but prob clutching at straws.

The tingling boobs haven't come to anything (pretty certain it was psychosomatic) but I just remember them being quite noticable with DS so was probably on the lookout.

Not to self: must stop symptom watching!

...But it's so hard, isn't it?

Bambi27 · 20/06/2013 09:21

Bfn :( just did a first responses within time frame it says and got bfn...rubbish!! Me out for this month :(. Gutted!! Never mind always next month??? X

charleylarlie · 20/06/2013 09:41

Aw, that sucks Bambi. But give it a couple of days and try again - just in case.

Bambi27 · 20/06/2013 09:42

Tbh I believe the test, I think I'll just wait for af to arrive Monday now! To depressing!!

blueamber · 20/06/2013 11:13

Bambi not everyone produces the same level of hcg, so some don't get a positive until later on. Perhaps wait for AF on Monday and if it doesn't show test again.

StrawberryMojito · 20/06/2013 13:03

Hi guys, thanks for your responses and it did cross my mind that it could be implantation as it was quite slow starting but it is 100% definitely AF, it's quite heavy.

I'm a little concerned, my cycles used to be 29-30 days but in the past few months (since starting ttc-v annoying) they keep getting shorter and shorter. This cycle of 24 days was the shortest which means my luteal phase is only borderline normal now. Not sure what's going on, I'm 33 which I know isn't young but I would expect to have a few more baby making years left and my mum had me at 36. I'm considering acupuncture as I used it successfully before when I had really irregular periods and awful pmt and it worked v well.

Sorry about your BFN Bambi, but there may still be hope yet. Anyway, law of averages says that one of us out of you, me, Charley and BN should get a BFP, those bleeding gums are a good sign Charley!

Bugger! Sorry to hear that strawberry?

I agree with everyone else, it's still early days bambi

I've been trying to limit my time on here in the desperate hope it will stop me thinking about af, ttc, early testing etc - it's not working very well!

I have managed avoided early testing but that's only because I feel like it will be a waste of money, I'm convinced af is just around the corner.

Bambi27 · 20/06/2013 17:51

I know it's not 100% but feel that it's very likely it would have shown as says I could have tested from yesterday?? So should have gone positive surely!! Xx

BNmum · 20/06/2013 20:48

Not true bambi, some people don't show up that they're pregnant until a couple of weeks after af was due. I would forget about it for a few days then try again. Fingers crossed x

Bambi27 · 20/06/2013 20:55

Thanks bnmum maybe there's hope, just thinking of 1st time showed up quite quickly! We shall see Monday I suppose!! Xx

BNmum · 20/06/2013 21:06

Do you think you can hold out till Monday? I've gotta say you've got me wanting to test early now, thankfully I don't have any tests in the house.

Bambi27 · 20/06/2013 21:15

God knows!! I have 3 tests so will be hard not to but seriously don't think this month will be my bfp now! X

charleylarlie · 21/06/2013 16:17

Sorry to hear it's def AF, Strawberry Sad

Do you think you'll do any more tests, Bambi or will you wait and see what happens? It aint over 'til it's over and AF rears her head, you know?

Have you managed to stay away from the tests, BNmum?

I haven?t had the bleeding gums again, but noticed the tiniest pink streak of blood when I wiped after going to the loo earlier (sorry if tmi). It wasn?t like the implantation bleeding I had with DS though (with him it was a browny red and there was a bit more of it). This was like a blob of cm (tbh looked quite like ewcm, but as am on day 24 of a 29 day cycle can?t imagine it is ovulation time, or if it is it won?t result in pg). I?m probably just over-scrutinising things now though and it?s probably something I wouldn?t notice if wasn?t ttc. Got that sick feeling in my stomach though that I get when AF is imminent, so maybe it was just the beginning of that coming early.

Tempted to do First Response test, but really trying to hold out until nearer ?official? AF day, which is Tuesday or Wednesday.

Bambi27 · 21/06/2013 19:34

Poas today negative :( and af feels like she's just around the corner so think she's going to come before Monday!! :( never mind! Xx

BNmum · 21/06/2013 21:17

Hi guys, just checking in to see how everyone is getting on. I've managed to stay away from the tests so far but think i'll buy a 2pack tomorrow to test on Sunday if af doesn't arrive beforehand. My 2yo has been really difficult over the last couple of days which has not helped my bad mood in the slightest and has almost made me question having another. I think I'm just being over sensitive and tired as af feels pretty imminent. I'll keep you posted.

Ps, bambi don't feel disheartened its still early days x

Bambi27 · 21/06/2013 21:18

Don't know to me 8 months seems like an eternity!! I know it's not but its still difficult! Good luck bnmum!!

StrawberryMojito · 22/06/2013 06:55

BN I know exactly what you mean. I had to make an emergency exit from soft play yesterday after DS had a full on meltdown because another child was playing with something he wanted. As I was carrying him screaming towards the exit I was thinking "could I actually cope with this and a hungry baby?!". The answer must have been yes though as I've ordered some cheap OPKs from Amazon for this month. Clearblue have already had £40 from me with no result so I'm saving my pennies. Good luck with the testing.

Bambi, don't get disheartened, it will happen.

charleylarlie · 22/06/2013 08:50

Well, that's me out for this month too. AF arrived in full swing in the night. Four days early. Sad

At least I know that the opks might have been accurate, detecting a peak on days 8-11 of a 25 day cycle. I'm going to carry on using the cb ones until they run out and then the cheap ones. I'm also going to buy a bbt thermometer this month, to be absolutely certain.

Oh, 2 year olds are so exhausting, aren't they? My ds is so busy and manic and LOUD at the mo.

So, it's all down to you now this month, Bnmum Really hope it's a bfp for you. I haven't lost faith that you might be lucky too, Bambi, but I'm def out with Strawberry now - here's to next month!

charleylarlie · 22/06/2013 12:00

Just wanted to say, Strawberry that 24 days is within the normal range, so I don't think you've got anything to worry about.

I started charting my cycle on ovufriend last month (it's free), and I think it's helping me get more in touch with my body. You can also enter when you've tested opks and temps and when you've dtd and any symptoms you may get. It's just encouraging me to get a better picture of my own cycle and thought I'd mention it in case any of you guys might not have heard of it and think it useful.

I'm a bit disappointed at the mo, due to AF, but at least I have an excuse to eat chocolate (as if I needed one)! Grin

BNmum · 22/06/2013 12:05

Oh no! Sorry to hear that charley Sad

I was referring to it being early days for the test not to show anything up bambi. I thought your af wasn't due for a couple of days yet so the chances of it showing up before your due date are pretty slim. It can happen but it doesn't mean that you're not pregnant just because it doesn't indicate a BFP early so dont rule this month out yet, there's only af that can do that for you! Smile I can imagine its really difficult to wait a couple of extra days when you've already been waiting 8months though. Wishing you loads of luck!!

Right I'm off out to the shops......
