Advice re OPK please-very early smiley face

This is my second month using an OPK (clearblue digital that tells you when you are both high and peak fertility). Last month I didn't get a high fertility sign at all (flashing smiley face), it just went straight to peak fertility (fixed smiley face). This was on day 12 which was a couple of days earlier than expected but still seemed normal.

I only finished my period a couple of days ago but started using the opk straight away as my cycles vary a bit (26-30 days). Today (day 8) I got a high fertlity sign. Surely this is too early?

So, we had sex last night just for fun rather than baby making but now I'm thinking should we do it again tonight as I got the high (but not peak) fertility sign or shall we just start doing it every other day until I get the peak fertility smiley face. I don't want to exhaust DH and his swimmers but don't want to miss the window either.

I think overall they must work it they'd have been recalled surely?? How you feeling bnmum?

charleylarlie · 08/07/2013 09:21

Luckystars, I'm on my first month of temping and also use opks. I noticed a rise a day or two after ov. I'm not sure how accurate temping is - would need to chart it over a few months I think. So many things can affect it. There are websites that can help you work it all out and give you a better idea, although they're only a guide also. I started entering my details onto ovufriend last month and find it useful if only to have a visual guide of my cycle. Good luck for bfp this month. Smile

blueamber · 08/07/2013 10:30

I used the advanced ones and am not temping, but on the day of my fixed smiley I got bad pains in my side, which is why I assumed ov was happening that day or the next. You can read the lines on the sticks as well, and saw a clear lh surge on the day of the fixed smiley. Ov takes place 12 - 36 hours after the lh surge.

I haven't tried temping, because it just seems so much hassle, as you have to take it immediately when waking up and before doing anything else or else it could be inaccurate. I would say the opk is more accurate than the temp, but you never know!

charleylarlie · 08/07/2013 11:57

Yes, it's always worth looking at the lines when you remove the stick - I saw the second line get gradually thicker and then overtake the control line on fixed smiley day!

I'm not sure if it's possible to tell from temping when you're fertile - only after you've probably ovulated. Prob more useful for people trying not to have babies. Temping is bit of a pain tbh, esp with the opks as well.

Hi ive been using the Clearblue dual hormone ovulation test in June cycle on,

Day14 -Flashing smiley

Day 15 & 16 - solid smiley

Now in July cycle on

Friday 5th July Day 11 - Flashing smiley

Saturday 6th July Day 12 - Flashing smiley

Sunday 7th July Day 13 - Flashing Smiley

Monday 8th July Day 14 - Flashing smiley.

But when i used Asda own brand ovulation test to-day the line was faint, i dont understand x

I got my IUI sperm put in Friday 5th July Day11.Do you think the pregnancy will work or is it too early.

blueamber · 08/07/2013 14:27

It depends which opk you use. The advanced ones have one line for oestrogen and one for lh. The normal ones just have a control line and lh line.

business, sometimes you can get 4 - 4 flashing smileys before the fixed one. Hopefully you'll get it tomorrow. They say sperm can survive five days so fingers crossed for you.

The advanced ones measure both oestrogen and lh and can detect ov coming up, while the asda one will only do lh. Most likely when you get your fixed smiley the asda one should follow by giving you a strong line.

businessadmin · 08/07/2013 14:40

Thank you Smile . I hope so x

BNmum · 08/07/2013 14:46

Hi guys, I'm feeling a lot better thanks. My cold seems to be going and we're off on our hols for a few days. just the thought of a few days away has picked me up no end Smile

Welcome business, until you get your fixed smile it's difficult to say if the IUI sperm will be successful. As you've got a faint on the asda OPK, registering flashing smiley on cb and also looking at your last cycle history it looks like your fixed is just around the corner. If you get your fixed on cd15/16 like last month that would make it 4/5 days since IUI and like blue has already said sperm can live up to 5 days so you're still in with a chance. Good luck!!

businessadmin · 08/07/2013 16:48

Thank you BNmum i really hoped it worked, i was going to wait until today or tomorrow to get IUI done, but when i received the Flashing smiley on friday, i got worried in case the solid smiley would happen on the weekend, when the clinic was closed. Sad.

BNmum · 08/07/2013 19:19

That must have been a really tricky decision to make business. fIngers crossed its successful!
Do you typically ovulation cd15/16 or was last month you first month of using OPKs? I'm afraid I don't know much about IUI, if you don't mind me asking how many attempts do you get? Sorry to bombard you with so many questions Blush

StrawberryMojito · 08/07/2013 19:33

Hi all, glad you finally got your fixed smiley Bambi. Apparently the heat can make you horny so that's good timing. I got a positive (I think) on my cheapie on Thursday afternoon...but we didn't dtd...gutted! DH had worked crazy hours all week and practically begged me not to make him have sex (not good for the ego!). So, all the pressure is on that Wednesday morning sex...we'll have to see in about 10 days time whether it did the trick, not particularly optimistic.

On the plus side, the weather is fab and we had a lovely weekend.

Hope things are going well with you Charley and BN. When can you test BN? Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks strawberry!! Fingers crossed for weds deed!! We dtd twice yesterday (first day of fixed smiley) and want to dtd tonight but hubby's already asleep on sofa but he's promised he'll wake up to do it in a bit!! Fingers crossed!! Wink

Bambi27 · 08/07/2013 22:10

Eugh gone to bed and husband is refusing to wake up saying he has a major headache Confused I understand he hasn't been well but how long does dtd take?!!! So bloody frustrating! AngryAngryAngryAngry

charleylarlie · 09/07/2013 07:19

Bambi, you're still in with a good chance! We didn't manage to dtd on our 2nd day this month due to parents visiting and went the day after instead. You never know! Man flu is so frustrating though.

Nice to hear from you Strawberry. Hopefully you dtd in the right window too. Like BNmum says sperm can live for a few days, esp round fertile time.

I bet you're looking forward to your hols BNmum - I'm jealous! Envy Grin

Nice to meet you businessadmin. Good luck for bfp this month. Smile

I am around 6ish dpo now and will be trying not to spot symptoms from here on on!

BNmum · 09/07/2013 09:51

Morning ladies! Almost wet myself laughing a your posts bambi, bloody men! Anyway, it sounds promising and you've got a couple more opportunities. Look on the +ve side, his little swimmers would have had chance to recharged their batteries last night so should be good to go today!

Fingers crossed for your Wednesday swimmers strawberry

I hope your 2ww goes quickly charley, when are you planning to test?

I had planned to test tomorrow but as we're off for a few days I may wait until the weekend when we're back home. I haven't bought any tests (didn't want to jinx anything) yet, i'll probably cave and test tomorrow as planned anyway. Just not sure if it will put a dampner on the hol if its a negative. I haven't had any symptoms so there's no reason for me to think otherwise.

BNmum · 09/07/2013 09:52

Ooh! Forgot to say I'm signing out for a few days so have a lovely week in the sun and I look forward to catching up with all the gossip when I'm back Grin

blueamber · 09/07/2013 09:54

Enjoy your holiday bnmum!

Bambi27 · 09/07/2013 12:13

Ha ha thanks bnmum!! Hopefully he'll be up2 it tonight Wink hope you have a fab break and don't test!! Try to enjoy the time away and test when you get back (easier said than done!!!) x

Bambi27 · 09/07/2013 12:14

And thanks charley...unfortunately not man flu he's had severe food poisoning for over a week :( rubbish!! Hope he gets better soon!!

charleylarlie · 09/07/2013 12:19

Hope he feels better soon, Bambi! Smile

businessadmin · 09/07/2013 13:08

Hi bnmum yes it was a really tricky decision to make, im worried ive gone into soon instead of stickin to my guns of goin in today.

I normally ovulate around cd15/16. I only had one attempt of IUI, that why im worrying.

I done Cb with 8am morning urine and it was

Day 15 - Flashing smiley
Asda = Faint Line

I came home from shopping about 11am and did another
Asda =Darker line
Cb=Solid smiley

[smiley]

blueamber · 09/07/2013 13:34

that's great news, business!

Bambi27 · 09/07/2013 17:33

Fingers crossed for you business!! Xx

Bambi27 · 09/07/2013 22:49

Need to vent...husband won't Dtd again tonight and to tired and still feels poorly :( it's so fustrating and just another month that will pass without a bfp Sad just wish he'd suck it up and just do it tonight, it's depressing keep asking and getting a no! I get he's ill but I wish he could just understand a few days missed are v important was so excited for fixed smiley and now seems a complete waste...gutted Sad

StrawberryMojito · 10/07/2013 05:54

It's crap isn't it Bambi. My DH was the one who suggested trying for a second and has even told his friends we are. Most of the time he is really committed to the cause but last month he was ill during the fertile window and this month he had big work commitments so we haven't done it when we should have. It's so annoying when you have been using opks all month. I don't even blame him, it's just frustrating.

At least you won't have a stressful 2 week wait, it's quite relaxing letting it pass by unnoticed with no expectations.
