No Period for 4 months since Implanon removed

I went to the Doc about 6 weeks ago. They said to come back at 6 months but they're unlikely to be able to do anything to help. He said they can give me drugs to make me bleed but not Ovulate. So what is Clomid?
Is it normal that I should wait so long for any investigations? Aside from TTC isn't the fact that I'm not having a period at all a bad thing for my body/hormones?
I'm worried that I've been fobbed off by the doc because we haven't been 'trying' long enough. Clearly it doesn't matter how much we DTD if I'm not ovulating though (can you Ovulate but not have a period without being pregnant?)
Is there anyone else here with no cycle at all? and how long did you have to wait for them to refer you for tests?

Sorry, that's a lot of questions Sad I feel very alone in this.

Seeking some comfort through this tough time..
I first got the Nexplanon implant when I was 17 years old then got it removed at 19 years old. A month later, I got pregnant with my son. After my son was born in January 2018, two weeks later I got the Nexplanon inserted. October 06, 2019, I got the Nexplanon removed once again. Fast forward to now, it has been 4 months and STILL NO PERIOD. I am struggling to stay positive and waiting for my period to come naturally. Remind you, I am 22 years old. I am young but that doesn't mean nothing can happen to me.
Everyone has told me that it is normal and that my hormones are still trying to bounce back to normal. And google, is no help what so ever with throwing so many different information.
Tomorrow I have a doctors appointment to talk about it with a doctor and possibly get blood work done to make sure everything is okay. I'm sitting on pins and needles right now..

@louloulollipop
I am wondering how your situation turned out? Your experience has been very helpful in easing the stress about my similar situation. I am okay being patient so long as I know I will be able to conceive. I’ve had a check up and everything looks fine, though it is too soon to get help with kickstarting my period.

louloulollipop · 29/02/2020 09:37

Hi, unfortunately I’m still struggling. I’ve had many tests with the doctors and they are saying my hormone levels are normal, and I don’t have PCOS. I had a period that lasted from the beginning of sept 2019, to 3rd of Jan 2020. That came on naturally but I had to take provera to stop it. All id say is keep on at your doctor even now. i did have some normality from May to sept. But obviously didn’t conceive. It’s hard for me cos I don’t feel like we can consider ourselves as trying when I have no normality with my periods. I think that drs need to change the advice on implants and say that actually it can take over a year to go back to normal.

A little bit of slightly positive news is that someone I work with, had 7 years of bad luck, following implanon being removed, on weds she had her beautiful baby girl!

kerrym87 · 06/05/2020 14:22

I had implant in 12 years plus back to back. I had slightly irregular periods of 30-35 days with occasional longer cycle but since having implant out 8 months ago they've been 33-44.
I bled for 3 days 2 days after implant removal and have just started using basal body temp, tracking cervical fluid and got first positive ovulation test last cycle however, BFN.

I'm hoping that if I'm tuned in a bit more to my body at some point well get lucky! Did have bloods for PCOS in Feb due to family history but they said they were ok from that point of view.

Hi all, been scouring the internet for advice and thankfully came across this thread, I feel less alone! Desperate for some advice, hope someone can help!

Soo I had the implant for 10 years with no issues at all including periods. Reached a point where I was ready to come off it and let my body find its own normal, that was in January. Since then I haven’t the slightest sign of period.

Have tried to be really chilled about it, it will happen when it happens mentality, and settled on a visit to the doctors at the 6 month mark, but then corona hit.

In meantime, one drunken night 6 weeks ago happened, we have been very careful since the removal but it happened. Didn’t think anything of it until about 3 weeks ago when I started to feel really bloated and experiencing a constant dull stomach ache... and now The aches are still there along with very tender breast and gas like you wouldn’t believer (sorry, tmi!).

So I have done two tests... one very faintly positive and one very clearly negative. I don’t know what’s going on. Am I? Could I be? I’d my body preparing for a period? I just don’t know. I guess my question is, would it be possible considering I don’t get periods?

Sorry for the ramble, google has led me down all sort of avenues so really experiences and advice would be really helpful

kerrym87 · 07/05/2020 06:22

@Craylay problem is pms and pregnancy start off with the same symptoms! You could still have ovulated at some point before your first period appears. Best bet is to retest in another 5-7days as if you aren't, it should be negative and period might turn up, if you are the hormone levels will have built up enough to detect properly. Hope that helps x

Kristy87 · 03/06/2020 03:38

Hi

I got my implant removed on the 3rd of august and had my period a few days before removal I have had a light brownish period 2 times since them but only lasts a Couple hours and now my period 13 days late took 2 tests but they have been negative

Lougirl95 · 17/11/2020 20:57

I have felt so alone the whole year and I'm so glad I'm not alone looking at alot of the stories. My story it.
I had 2 implants back to back once having them removed in October 2019. So I was told by my doctor my body will return almost immediately but can take 3 months for a period however for both implants I had no periods. So I waited the 3 months and nothing no emotional change I honestly felt no difference with body or mind. I went back to the doctor's and they said give another 3 month your body maybe slow so I trusted them. 6 months in still nothing so I went back and they gave me some tablets to take for a week to stop pierods but will kick start them. I thought this will be great but the doctor had said that if it doesn't work and don't get the induced period then there's a problem. I worried all week taken the tablets religiously and 4 days after finishing boom I had the most painful period of my life. I called the doctors to say it worked they then said my body should continue and now be regular. How wrong they was nothing happended but thought maybe I'm late because the time I took the tablets to when I would normaly be due years ago was not the same pattern so gave it a month. Now it's June and 8 months no natural period and I'm feeling like a sitting duck very confused so I call the doctors and they say to come in for bloods and so a week later they come back clear with no issues. Because I hit 25 I got told maybe a smear will indicate somthing so done that and waited 4 weeks for the results and came back with abnormalitys so thought although this a great it could be an indication. I wait weeks for a response and then going to have a coloscopy witch comes back clear again but they advise the doctors need further. Doctors done more bloods sent me hospital for a scan and yet nothing. We are still going further but nothing still a year later

Sorry it's long winded but that's the story.

Hmb30 · 15/01/2021 22:37

Hi, I got my implant removed on 3rd Feb 2020 after having it in 4.5 years (change over after 3) and I’ve still not had a period!

I got my bloods taken after 6m and they advised my hormone level was fine! I’ve been referred to the gyn clinic but due to covid could be a while before I’m seen.

Has anyone else went this long?

Thanks for any help x

MN28 · 24/01/2021 10:50

Hi, I am so glad I found this feed but its also made me worry more too. I got my implant out on 3rd Dec 2020. I had it in for 9years, 6yrs without a period which I thought was great! I was told when getting it removed that my fertility should return quickly and within about 3 weeks I would get my period or even a withdrawal bleed but still nothing nearly 2 months on. I thought this wasn't normal so I booked a telephone appointment with my Dr next week but now reading others story's they have went a lot longer which no one tells you could happen!

Me and my OH started TTC as soon as the implant was removed. I have had symptoms that suggest my period is coming, cramps, sore boobs, feeling more emotional but nothings happened. I have taken a few pregnancy tests but all negative. Then I am reading into things too much like I have felt nauseous, smells are stronger at times and my skin has been itchy (which i googled and apparently could be a sign) lol but all tests are negative. I am usually impatient but I didn't think it would drive me as mad as it has and only 2 months in haha I'll just have to wait and speak to my Dr but now feel they might not do anything because its only been 2 months.

Hunterrose · 24/02/2021 20:27

Has anyone who hasn't had a period since getting their implant removed since found out they are pregnant?

Im 31 and have had 2 implants in back to back for 6.5years and have always had very regular 28 day cycle even on the implant. But since having it out a few weeks ago (ttc), no sign of my period. About 10 days late from when I expected it on my normal cycle. Took a test a few days ago and was negative.

I've had cramps but more like IBS/gassy tummy, and some sharper ovary pains on the right side. Apart from that I've got no pregnancy symptoms. Trying for our first baby but I did have a miscarriage about 11 years ago and distinctly remember having a LOT more symptoms

How long did periods take to come back for most people? I really don't think I'm pregnant but really want my period to come soon... feeling very impatient but trying to stay calm!

peachescoco29 · 26/03/2021 11:35

Hi,

I’m 27 and had implant out 18/01. No periods since. 2 weeks ago, had cramping and spotting then nothing. I’ve felt nauseous for 4 days taken multiple preg tests and negative. Having bloods today for hormones and pregnancy test. I haven’t had actual bleed since December 😞

I had 2x implants and then was on pills so not sure if my body is taking forever to regulate itself, but I’m definitely concerned about my fertility

Hmb30 · 26/03/2021 11:52

I’ve had my implant out for 14 months and still not had a single bleed or any signs 😢

Hope all goes well ! X

peachescoco29 · 26/03/2021 12:11

Have you been to docs or anything??
Thank you! X

Hmb30 · 26/03/2021 18:56

Yeah I went after 6m as I was advised to wait until then so I went in September and was referred to Gyn but due to covid haven’t been seen yet. I called and asked if they can move me up tho an urgent as it’s been so long but waiting to hear back! I only done this yesterday so fingers crossed. I don’t seem to be getting any answers. I don’t think people often understand how frustrating it becomes! I got blood taken for hormone levels in Sept and they were all normal x

C0n3ja · 06/07/2021 19:32

Hello I've had nexplanon removed 11/2020, still haven't had a period it's been 7 1/2 months, nothing but negative pregnancy results, is it normal to not have a period this long? I've tried calling my doctor apparently only phone interviews doesn't make sense

peachescoco29 · 26/07/2021 22:25

My period started back up in April so around 3m xxx

holfr020 · 27/07/2021 03:54

Hi all, just wanted to share my expirence. Had 2 implants for 6.5 years back to back. I was advised my periods should return after a couple of months, if not give them a call. Waited but no period, took a test and it was positive - this was last winter so now a baby boy. So it's absolutely possible to conceive without the period first. I really hope everyone gets the answers they need, it's incredibly frustrating when you plan to ttc. The implant is put in with the advice you can get pregnant as soon as its removed and its was only after the fact that I found outs it's considered reasonable not get get a period for months after its removed xx

Shaylor · 24/01/2024 21:55

Hi, I’m just wondering if you could give me an update about this post. Was your pregnant? I’m trying to convince and have had the same experience as you. Thank you.

Lou1991 · 25/01/2024 04:10

Hi!! No I was not pregnant unfortunately in the end I found out the implant gave me post birth control pcos. I got my period a few days after this post but I had to wait another 16 weeks for another period and didn’t ovulate for 1.5 year.

I needed metformin to get my cycles regular which it did help but I didn’t ovulate each cycle. I needed clomid to help me fall pregnant. 4 years later I eventually got pregnant baby is now 5 nearly 6 months old.

my best advice is go to the dr they can give you a medication to kick start a period and then track your ovulation with opks and bbt.

I can also confirm I didn’t have pcos before the implant
