TTC 10+ months thread 12

A very friendly and supportive thread for those taking way longer than they had ever expected to make a baby.

OP posts:
viviennewestwould · 11/01/2013 12:04

MrsDen, the reason I sought this thread out was because the ttc over-40 thread is full of women bemoaning their 'need' for that fourth/fifth/sixth baby. I can empathise with any one of the women on this thread who feel pathological about their 'need' for a baby, but I cannot stand the whingeing of those other women.

Joy! 200m sperm?!! 6/7% morphology? Is your husband busy around the 21st? Wink Is this your first ever round of IVF, Joy? How bloody exciting. Are you serious about your fears of laptop abuse of your DNA?

Akua, I won't tell anybody where you're at. How fascinating. I have tons of questions but don't feel I should ask..

I'm off to the village backstreet barber shop with a 'free wash, cut & blow' voucher which Michael won in a Christmas raffle. I'm bloody dreading it but I'll take owt that's free, me

viviennewestwould · 11/01/2013 12:08

Can anyone tell me why Joy 'sent her menstrual blood to far-flung lands'?!

joycep · 11/01/2013 12:09

mrsd - i think we are both very guilty of pessimism but i think there are no certainties in any of this and so we have to prepare ourselves. For what it's worth, i feel very positive for you. icxi will select the best sperm, out of the millions he does have, they are not all going to be bad quality.
What ever happens with me, I cannot fault my clinic. I have been utterly impressed. I'm such a worrier and so having the reassurance that they have been keeping an eye out on my bloods etc has been very comforting. And i will know that i wouldn't get better treatment elsewhere. But it's very much the end of the road going to this clinic so we will see what happens.

joycep · 11/01/2013 12:15

thanks Doll. I've read all sorts of studies and i never seem to fit in to the stats but will keep my fingers crossed.

Viv - i'm really serious about the DNA thing and laptop. I use to watch dvds every week in bed and my laptop sat on my tummy. I remember thinking at the time that it couldn' be good for my ovaries but i thought i would have no hope at finding a man to marry so it didn't bother me then! ah yes, my menstrual blood went on a trip to Athens where it was tested for Hidden Chlymadia and bacterial infections. Desperation set in at trying to find an explanation to my infertility!

viviennewestwould · 11/01/2013 12:21

Wow, Joy. Did they find owt in Athens? How long have you been trying for a baby? I wish i could remember everyone's ttc synopses..

EuroShagmore · 11/01/2013 12:28

joy wow - things have moved so fast for you. 13 eggs is great! Are you in any pain or discomfort post-EC? I'm slightly freaked out about the idea of someone shoving a giant needle through my fanjo.

ArtemisTheHunter · 11/01/2013 13:32

Just popping in to say well done Joy, that's terrific news. I hope 13 is your lucky number. It was for me Smile. I think you did the right thing letting the clinic go with ICSI - I recall at this point I just did as I was told. There is comfort in putting yourself in expert hands. Fingers crossed for good fertilisation and good strong embies. Thank you for thinking of me. I've got my 12 week scan in a fortnight and am anxious about what it might reveal, though trying to remember my 'one day at a time' mantra and not worry about things I can't change. Then there is a 2-week wait for the results. Another 2ww... you'd think I'd have got used to them by now Hmm

MrsD when you get to IVF the tubes and sperm count won't matter. I do think there is a lot of luck involved. I read some advice on another thread which helped me when i was going through it, which was to think of your next cycle of treatment as the one that will work. It sounds weird but it helped me stop thinking of it as my last an only chance if I kept remembering we could have another shot if it didn't work (though admittedly i could only do that because we were on the NHS list).

Sar the antibiotics suggestion might not be a bad idea. It's at the back of my mind that I had my HSG a few weeks before starting IVF which meant I had taken some heavy duty antibiotics to stave off infection. I often wonder if that made a difference to my chances, given that the odds were not on our side.

Viv I too struggle with the women wanting their 4th/5th/7th baby. I've stayed away from the pregnancy threads because a lot of them are like that - women complaining that it's their 4th kid so they can't get excited, or planning to within the week what age gap they want with their next, and it bears no relationship to my experience at all. The grads thread is an oasis of calm and I am very much hoping it will start to get busier very soon Smile

I'd better go back to work. Waves, tail feather shakes and warrior cries to everyone Smile

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 11/01/2013 13:51

Afternoon ladies!

Well done on surviving EC, joycep and mixing and injecting trigger in the loo. I have cut myself a few times with breaking those bloody vials... And 13 eggs is amazing! Keeping everything crossed for good fertilisations and embies! Agree with euro that having a big needle up your fanjo sounds quite traumatising!

My stabbing will be over for a long while now, had IUI on Wed, and after this round there will be a review with the clinic, which means a month's break. But this round of IUI was so easy and low impact (no side effects, only 7 days of stabbing, painfree IUI with 50 mil swimmers - SB best effort so far) that I might be convinced to stick with this a little longer. We'll see.

Oh, mrsd I am sorry you are feeling hopeless about it all, I agree with the lovely ladies that reassured you that tubes and numbers of sperm don't matter for IVF. And you are relatively young too.

Wow arte 10 weeks already. You are doing amazing!

Waves at the others, and stern look at pout to come back and tell us you're okay! Shaking those feathers!

sarlat · 11/01/2013 14:09

Joy-that is wonderful news. Another person with higher number of eggs collected than afc. Really excited for you and looking forward to the next update.

Den-don't lose hope sweetheart. U will get there, just a couple of minor things to overcome and then u r back on even playing field.

Art-yr one day at a time idea is spot on. The risks of anthing going wrong now are tiny for you. Wishing u a relaxing and immensley happy second trimester.

The antibiotic idea is a good one but I dont know how I would get any. On Monday the consultant said there was no sign of infection its just the tubes look a bit red/unhealthy. I have previously tried to get antibiotics from both the consultant and gp but they both said no due to no evidence of infection. Cant thinj how could tackle it.

Hello to all

akuabadoll · 11/01/2013 17:00

Back again....looks like we are going to live with a bit of power but not 24 hours for a while now. Power cuts are common place here it's very dull. Me and Little Doll did the 18 flights of stairs twice yesterday in the dark on his third day off nursery. Agrr. I have shit lots of work and this is all deeply unhelpful.

art lovely to see you. Sorry about the conflicting information and duplication of effort as described in a post the other day. Sounds like a perfect description of my job Grin lemon is right, more to come after birth of the critter. Get ear plugs for all the conflicting advice. Only listen to me cause I hold the secrets to stress free happy baby care. Joking aside though, I actually do Grin

critter Grin at 'I'm CURED' email. oh expat shield, thanks, will look into it, sounds like something I could use

buzzy great news about Barry's job and DE/IVF in May, wow.

buzzybee123 · 11/01/2013 18:24

lemon finger crossed for you this cycle

mrsd just concentrate on you upcoming op, think of it as a step closer to what you want.

Kayal seems to treat me like the M25 at the moment, she could go others ways around to where she wants to go but its much more fun to walk across laptop and to sometimes have a rest on it to

viviennewestwould · 11/01/2013 18:39

Buzzy, what a thrill! Is it Spain where you will go for your treatment (ignore if this is too intrusive a question)?

GinSoaked · 11/01/2013 19:50

Just popping in quickly to say wowzers joy, 13 eggs is amazing! I'm so pleased for you and have a feeling in me waters that this will work out for you. Make sure you take it easy over the next few days. Hopefully sperms and eggs will be getting it on over night!

buzzy v exciting re the ivf/de. Is that at the Greek place? They sounds great.

I was evily excited today to discover another barren celeb - Huge Jackman and his misses. Just need to google to find out the details...

Happy weekend everyone!

GinSoaked · 11/01/2013 19:52

Apparently Mrs Jackman had 2 miscarriages . They adopted 2 kids in the end!

mrsden · 11/01/2013 19:55

Some kind person has posted the baby maker programme to YouTube. I've just watched it, sort of depressed me in a way but it was good to get the behind the scenes perspective. The embryologist who is only 24 saying she wouldn't have ivf - I remember that naiveity. I bet she wouldn't feel like that if shes been trying 3 years.

Joy, I wonder what the sperm and eggs are getting up to. When will you get the call?

mrsden · 11/01/2013 19:57

gin I get excited too by fellow barrens. I can see why celebs don't go around talking about it though. I suspect there are an awful lot more than we know about. I always sort of assume when people have non Id twins that they've had ivf.

akuabadoll · 11/01/2013 20:50

mrsden I can't find it, Can you send me a link please?

buzzybee123 · 11/01/2013 20:54

no I'm planning on going to Reprofit in Brno Czech Republic

gin did they adopt or did they buy their kids and avoid the horrors of the adoption process

OP posts:
mrsden · 11/01/2013 20:57

Doll, search for baby makers 2013 in you tube. I'll try to do lik in a mo.

frozenpenguin · 11/01/2013 20:58

Evening all Smile

Finally got round to watching the Baby Makers programme last night ? I though the consultant was lovely and the ?well-equipped? mastabatorium was interesting! It was good to see how normal it all is but rather sad that 3 out of the 4 couples didn?t make it. Sad

dswills ? Hello and welcome, you?ll find all the ladies on here are absolutely lovely and full of wonderful advice. I agree with lemon and euro though, go back to your GP and ask for all the usual tests to be done. Google the NICE guidelines and take them with you to the GP if it helps.

Art and sar ? re: time off work ? I like the minor operation line; I might use that one when it gets to the stage. Up till now I?ve just used regular leave or arranged appointments for the weekend. Coincidentally, one of my work colleagues (who?s now 29 weeks pregnant) had lots of time off during the summer and given her age and situation, all 10 of us in my office suspected she?d had IVF. None of us have actually asked her yet though...

Sar ? good luck with your work situation, it seems like you?ve been given some very good advice by everyone on here (ps. I like the sound of your compartment lunch!)

Buzzy- fab news on the DE/IVF! Exciting times ahead!

joy ? that?s amazing they got 13 eggs, here?s hoping it?ll be a lucky 13 for you!

mrsd ? your situation is not hopeless, it?s just one more little hurdle that will eventually make you stronger - sending positive vibes to you and fingers crossed 2013 will be your year. Thanks

madness ? how about thread 13 for 2013? And pretty please (like viv said) would it be possible to make one of the first posts a list of everyone?s ttc synopses?

So, had a positive day at work ? myself and a friend decided we?re going to start our own office running jogging club at lunchtime. We?re going to try and loosely follow the NHS Couch to 5K programme. First session ? next Friday lunchtime! Grin

Then when me and DH arrived home, lo and behold was a letter from the fertility clinic with our initial appointment on Tuesday 5th February. That?ll be only 7 weeks from being referred to our actual appointment ? I assumed it would take a lot longer than that!?

Am I right in thinking the first appointment is likely to only be 10-15 minutes long? And is there anything I should be taking with me or any specific questions I should be asking? Apologies for all the questions, it?s just the early date has thrown me a bit! Confused

Waves and good wishes to gin, pout, doll, viv, lemon, euro, freedom, rabbit, critter, nao and everyone else (apologies if i've missed anyone) - hope everyone has a good weekend Smile

akuabadoll · 11/01/2013 21:02

mrsden got it with the '2013' thanks alot.

viviennewestwould · 11/01/2013 21:17

Frozen, how exciting to be having your first appointment (sorry I can't answer your question re how to prepare)! I, too, am loosely following the Couch to 5k - it's called the Couch to Fridge and it's surprisingly very easy..I feel grrrrrreat afterwards!

More celeb baby news: Jenny Frost (ex Atomic Kitten) is about to pop her twins out and Paddy McGuinness's missus (Chrissie - we used to lapdance together at Eden in Blackpool. She's think as pig-shit but an absolute scream) is preggo with twins [sigh]

I had my free cut & blow at the shitty backstreet barbers. I now look like a hybrid of Princess Diana and Hayley Cropper. Hairdressers: why do these creatures insist on blow-drying my short hair into a bulbous helmet? Sad

viviennewestwould · 11/01/2013 21:19

*'thick', not 'think'! (who's cerebrally-challenged now?) Blush
