bridget I have always considered my DS to be an only child. I have always felt so sorry for him as I had 4 other siblings when I was growing up. We were all pretty close in age range so I always had someone to play with.
However, since we have started to TTC I am excited by the thought of a sibling for him. We have spoken to him to see whether he would like to have a siblings and his only comment was "yes, but only of it's a boy as girls are yucky!"
As for your comments about your school-run friend, well I have these comments too and it cuts to the bone. Like you, I find that I am too sensitive regarding this issue and quickly change the subject. I especially hate the comments about how lucky I am only having one child. So many times I felt like responding and saying well why did you have 3 or 4 kids then?!

As for the house purchase, we are incredibly luck in that we are not in a chain. We are not selling our flat and have already rented it out and moved into rental accommodations.... we've been renting for 2 years. Initially we were only ever meant to rent for a maximum of 6 months - how time flies, eh?

fr00t best of luck with the pg test. Have you tested again?

Hi London, I am from a big family too (the middle child of 7). Growing up life was very busy and very noisy.

I think one of the things I struggle with is that the childhood DD has is so far removed from what I had. I don't really 'know' what she's getting, if that makes any sense?

We also live miles away from all my family - whereas when I was little my Gran and an aunt actually lived with us for many years.

Hey lOndon I no what you mean we ate 5 sisters and all quite close together apart from our little sister, and some times I do feel sorry 4 my little girl I look at her and she plays on her own with her toys, and pretends there real whilst I used to rember playing these games with my siblings. So I do think it's abit sad for only children, but on the other hand the one to one time brings them on a lot faster. And I also get the comments about her been on her own, but I've just started to take no notice of them as its not my fault I haven't got 4/5 kids and I sometimes feel like saying well sorry 4 not popping them out one after the other lol but I hold my Tounge.

Froot how's it going, any news xx

And got the scan date wrong lol 14 jan so lets hope it's ok not long I'm counting the days lol xxx

MrsSpencerReid · 05/01/2013 18:26

Ooh fr00t, fingers crossed my bfp was on an out of date stick last time!!Smile

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 05/01/2013 21:50

Evening ladies, DP is out tonight so I'm having a night in with the last of the Christmas Baileys, Mumsnet and rubbish tv.

As dear old Mother Nature decided to cock-up my New Year's, I'm having a belated think about resolutions and stuff. Going to have Monday (when DD does back to school) as my replacement New Year's Day.

It goes without saying getting a sticky BFP is top of the list but I also want to..

  1. pass my driving test
  2. lose weight (slow and steadily so I don't mess up my cycle)
  3. finally sort out all the family photos and the huge pile of Mini Bridget's artwork (she is a very prolific artist and goes mad if she spies any work in the recycling bin)
  4. give up coffee and alcohol
  5. do my pelvic floor exercises every day

I think that is probably plenty to be getting on with....

Anyone else got things they are hoping to tackle or achieve?

Oh London your DS's comment about a sibling made me smile. When I vaguely asked Mini B the same question she requested an older sister.

Glad you have less time to wait KBaby

Fridgedooropen · 05/01/2013 22:22

Best of luck fr00t - hope you have some good news to share soon.

I have a different perspective on the only child thing as I'm one myself and had a brilliant childhood. OIf course I can't know hoow it would have been different (in a better way Smile) with a sibling but as it was I had cousins and friends close by and it was good. So I have always been able to laugh at dire warnings about only children and say 'well, I turned out ok!' Having said that, I like the idea of another but can reconcile myself to one if I have to, just want to know I gave it a shot...

London and Bridget they seem to ask for what they know! My DS when asked is also adamant that he wants 'not a sister, only a brother'.

Bridget I am working on losing weight as currently am the heaviest I have ever been Sad but also want to do it steadily, I have lots of general clutter to sort out too. But hardly drink anymore so that one is sorted! The weight and getting my house tidy and organised are mine really.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 05/01/2013 22:42

Yay Fridge - I love it when someone speaks positively about being an only child, it is very reassuring to hear. I am definitely motivated to try for #2 because I would love another child, not because I don't want an only child.

I'm still very undecided about the clearblue monitor thingy - I've been reading the amazon reviews and they are pretty glowing. Would it be too bizarre to have it as a Valentine's Day gift?

I barely drink either, so it's the one resolution I am feeling confident about. I do love my coffee though...

fr00tbat · 05/01/2013 23:07

No bleeding still continues :-(
BFN this pm but drinking loads in order to PU for stick- will try sgain am. Not sure will sleep tonight.

fr00tbat · 05/01/2013 23:12

We have used the CBFM- expensive but worth it- u need stivks at £20 a month too- always needed 20 with me as dont ovulate until day 19-23 normally- seems to be consistent with charting.....

fr00tbat · 05/01/2013 23:13

If you fo buy- get sticks off amazon - much cheaper than high st!

Fridgedooropen · 05/01/2013 23:21

fr00t so sorry. Try and get some sleep. Put music or radio on or read something distracting, if any of that helps.

Bridget I don't think it would be odd as a VDay gift! but then I like all sorts of odd presents. I definitely see being an only very positively. I had lots of parental attention but other kids around for company. It's what you make of it.

fr00tbat · 06/01/2013 07:56

Fast +ve on digital and frer- bleeding now dark brown and think less- but woken in night by cramping so not optomistic on stickiness.
:-(

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 06/01/2013 08:38

Thinking of you fr00t - I so hope the bleeding has stopped and the cramps eased off.

I got a pale (but clear - as DP saw it instantly too) second line on FRER this Sunday afternoon and then started bleeding on Tuesday night. Was always on tenterhooks as miscarried in April. However, a little bit of me was hopeful as I'd tested early and it wasn't even FMU. Completely gutted.

The brown-ness of the blood could be a good sign, mine just got brighter and brighter.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I hope this pregnancy is a sticky one but totally understand the crushing disappointment if things don't work out. Keep strong.

fr00tbat · 06/01/2013 10:48

Thankyou- feel like am in limbo. Not sure what to do.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 06/01/2013 11:36

Oh love, hang on in there x

petitfromage · 06/01/2013 11:54

Morning all! Did my first test this am - negative but prob a bit early anyway as I'm not due on till Saturday. I knew once I'd bought them I wouldn't be able to leave them alone...

No resolutions for me really, apart from drink less (I do like a Wine....) and get back to the gym, want my body back to full fitness before I hopefully put on some baby weight later in the year.

Thinking of you fr00t, let us know how you get on x fingers crossed

111007kbaby · 06/01/2013 13:02

Francescarose · 06/01/2013 15:01

Hi ladies

Can I join you all for chat (and probably a little symptom spotting and obsessing) about TTC number 2? My lovely son is 2.5 and it was tricky to get pregnant the first time so I'm already worrying that it might not be easy this time!!

Has anyone been trying the grapefruit juice at ovulation time thing? I can't even remember why I did it the first time round!

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 06/01/2013 18:19

Hello Francesca, welcome to the thread - pull up a chair and make yourself at home.

Haven't done the grapefruit thing, but have heard it mentioned. Is meant to improve your CM?

To be honest, I can see myself trying anything and everything if I'm not up the duff by the summer.

Had my last coffee today. It's going to be soooo hard tomorrow morning..

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 06/01/2013 18:25

Sorry to hear you are feeling rotten kbaby I only had a medium dose of morning, noon, and night nausea with Mini Bridget so can't help.

Francescarose · 06/01/2013 18:29

Thanks Bridget! Good luck with the coffee thing... When I gave up caffeine I found peppermint tea and camomile tea helped- better than having nothing at all! Did you know you can get an organic decaf coffee?

111007kbaby · 06/01/2013 18:50

Thanks Bridget I'm starving but can't think bout eating :-( xx

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 06/01/2013 19:14

Oh good idea Francesca, will pop out for some fruit and/or mint teas tomorrow - don't know why I didn't think of that before. I don't even have baby brain as an excuse.

Absolutely luuurvve the name Francesca. We can't use it for a DD2 (family reason) but under different circumstances I'd pop it on the birth certificate in a flash.

kbaby, I found eating helped (but, unfortunately for my figure, that's the story of my life!)

111007kbaby · 06/01/2013 19:23

It helps I agree but what gets me is the thought of food urghhhh!!! With my dd I couldn't even drink water with out throwing up, was do bad but now I can't even drive as the motion of driving is making me so sick. I hate milk but I've heard it lines your stomack do you think that could help xxx.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 06/01/2013 19:34

Eeeeww, don't think I'd want milk if I was feeling really sick (but I went completely off anything creamy). I'd be reaching for plain stuff...like a rich tea biscuit or some toast.
