Hi ladies,

For those of us out of the July game there are not many places to hide so I thought I'd start a new August thread to give us all some positive vibes!

Cycle 3 - BFP August 6th

That's great news babyjames. Enjoy the dtd.

Hi all, Have added DulcetMoans to the list as she was posting from her phone upthread.

Have also deleted one version of me as I started as Aranrhod, but namechanged to Aufaniae. Both are fertility godess names. Not superstitious in any way, but I like that they're apt :) Sorry to be confusing!

Do people generally carry on testing for OV after getting a +ve? I got a +ve after two days of POASing so I've got plenty of sticks left for next month (hopefully won't need them of course!)

Newbie2 · 24/07/2012 09:44

auf I don't think you need to keep testing. My cb OV instructions say stop once you've got your positive OV.

OP posts:
DulcetMoans · 24/07/2012 09:47

Thanks aufanaie!!

threeleftfeet · 24/07/2012 09:49

Thanks Newbie :)

Hopefully I can pass them on to someone else next month then! Not getting my hopes up too much though as I've been doing this for a bit.

The sticks have given me a bit of hope though, that we're at least DTD at the right time.

My nipples felt strange yesterday. Like they did when I was pregnant last time. But at just 4 days past the +ve on the stick that would be impossibly early, wouldn't it? Just my body playing tricks on me I guess :)

threeleftfeet · 24/07/2012 09:49

No worries DulcetMoans :)

threeleftfeet · 24/07/2012 09:52

Does anyone know anything about BF and fertility? I understand that when you're exclusively BF it can work as a contraceptive, but those days are in the distant past now. I feed DS when it's my turn for bedtime (about every other night) and most mornings. None in the day - except on the (thankfully fairly rare) occasions that he's poorly.

Could that be affecting fertility at all? I thought not, but that's just my best guess! Does anyone know anything about it?

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2012 10:03

Auf it only acts as a contraceptive in so far as it stops your cycles, if you have got your period back it shouldn't affect fertility at all, my doctor said it was only really effective if you exclusively bf I.e before they were wiened aswell but even then I know people have been caught before then, when did your cycles return and have they been the same as before since? I only ask as I've only had 1 proper af since and wondered if I should expect the same length etc as last time

threeleftfeet · 24/07/2012 12:26

kitty that's reassuring, thanks :)

My periods returned ages ago. They came back at 5 months, but we're doing extended BFing, DS is 3.5!

I can't remember if mine were regular when they came back. I just remember being disappointed it was only 5 months Sad

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2012 12:59

3.5 Shock lol I thought I'd done my bit when I stoped at 9 months but I don't think my periods would have returned for a long time without as I'd only been doing 1 aday for 6 wks and still no af, it was nice not thinking about it and I may go for longer next time. We wanted to TTC though

SunshineOutdoors · 24/07/2012 14:21

Hi aufaniae

I had to stop bf before my periods came back, but afaik, like kitty says once periods come you're ok.

Although I have heard you can have a period without ovulating? I've ignored that though as that thought is too depressing.

If you're having fairly regular cycles I expect you're fine. are you temping or opk-ing?

kitty I've only had two periods so one measurable cycle since stopping bf and as I think you know that was a week longer than I expected. Temping this month so I have more of a clue when ov has happened

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 24/07/2012 15:38

aufanie (great name by the way). You are lucky with your periods coming back so soon. I had to stop bf at 13 months as my periods were refusing to return even though dd was down to just one feed at 4pm. Sad

sunshine good plan monitoring your temps. Would love to do that myself but dd is a rubbish sleeper so I don't think I could do it accurately, I am relying on opks instead.

SunshineOutdoors · 24/07/2012 16:10

whenshewas I don't know how accurate mine will be as I often forget and get up to the toilet before I take temp. But at the mo it has sometimes been lower on these days than on other days when I've done it properly. Hopefully at some point the temp will raise and not go down - I think I should be able to spot this even though some days might not be so accurate.

I don't know much about opks - is it poas when you think ov may be a few days away and keep going until they say you have ovulated?

Newbie2 · 24/07/2012 16:14

Are you ladies measuring Celsius or Fahrenheit? I got to choose which one to buy and I picked Celsius. Was I right?

OP posts:
bodi · 24/07/2012 16:29

hi newbie

mine is in celsius.

SunshineOutdoors · 24/07/2012 16:30

Celsius here too. The app I use lets you choose either though.

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2012 17:37

Thanks sunshine, think I may be on your cycle aswell, 2 nd since mc/ stoped bf and I'm on cd34 longest yet for me abd still no sign yet but a bfn Sad
It's so frustrating!!!

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2012 17:38

Oh and opk's ask you how long your cycle is, tells you what day to start poas then you stop when you get a +ive

woody17 · 24/07/2012 18:48

Hi everyone

Hope you've all been enjoying the sunshine!

I don't use ov sticks - would you recommend them?

Did a pg test today since the mc last week and it was positive. I'm not sure if it means that I won't be able to even have a chance at getting pg until it goes negative. Feeling really down about it. I just want to be able to ttc again asap.

SunshineOutdoors · 24/07/2012 19:17

Hi woody I'm sorry I don't have the answer to your q but didn't want to read and run. It's understandable that you're feeling down. I say don't stop thinking that you're ttc.... even if things don't happen this cycle it may not be due to m/c. You never know, people can get pg at the most surprising times, against the odds, but you can't get pg if you're not dtd.

Give yourself some slack and be nice to yourself... I imagine it will take time to begin to heal emotionally and mentally from a m/c. Any treats you can have tonight?

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 24/07/2012 19:30

woody I just wanted to say the same as sunshine. I don't know but just wanted to say I am really sorry about the mc. It must be so frustrating and of course you want to ttc ASAP.

I thInk there are some ladies on this thread who have been in the same situation, hopefully they can offer some advice. Take care if yourself.

woody17 · 24/07/2012 19:49

Thank you sunshineoutdoors and whenshewasbadshewashorrid I think you are right - just keep dtd and seeing what happens.

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2012 19:57

Hi woody, aparently you won't ov until you get a negative pg test, I think the body still recognises that you are pg and therefore won't release an egg until your levels have droped to 5, hpt picks up from 10 upwards, likewise there is no point using opk until neg test as that will show + from the hormones aswell, not sure why but it does go + of you are pregnant, I know you are frustrated but time does ease it abit, have you stoped bleeding etc - I was advised not to dtd until then due to infection and they would not sign me off at hospital until I had a neg test incase ectopic or retained products, I still got a + at 10 days but a neg at 2 wks, I got a + smiley at 23 days that month which is very late for me so it obviously did take my body longer to start thinking to ov again, everyone whose mc understands that pans of desperation to be of again abd while I wouldn't say don't try, of it doesn't work first time all if us have noticed really heavy periods after so bodies do take a little time to repair, just dtd and if it's ment to be it will happen, if you want to try opk just to see what's going on wait until you have a neg test first x

woody17 · 24/07/2012 20:04

Thanks kittykatsforever the scan last week showed that everything was gone and there was nothing left. I stopped bleeding last Friday and we've been dtd since Saturday. Think we'll just keep dtd every other day or so and I'll do a test once a week to see what happens. I guess I've just got to try and relax about it all!
