Hi ladies,

For those of us out of the July game there are not many places to hide so I thought I'd start a new August thread to give us all some positive vibes!

I would like to start to use OPKs to up our chances, given the super long cycles... I have never used them before and (TMI) I drink so much water each day, I dont know if they would work...
Do any of you have any advice for people who drink a ton of water, would they pick up the surge?

It seems to be hit and miss, Guntie.

I drink loads and struggled to get a result, except with FMU, which you're not meant to use with the cheapies. But other people who drink a lot say they still get an afternoon result. My problem could be not holding my wee in long enough though.

The rather expensive CB smilie ones are for FMU use, so will be useful to get my free ones soon enough!

Yes I echo nicola the cb ones are for fmu but are expensive, as your only just starting out on the TTC journey why not try the cheep ones and see how you get on first, if it doesn't work maybe gk for a month on the cb digi
Evening primrose oil is something which may help your long cycle?

Hi guntie I completely agree with Nicola and Kitty. When I was trying to conceive my dd (2 years ago) I used the clearblue ovulation monitors first think in the morning and they never let me down.

This time round I have bought the cheapy Internet ones and have never had a positive in the morning they only go positive in the afternoon. Best if luck with them.

Ok, might need answers ladies!
Had my copper coil taken out on 17/7, CD 16. Decided to try ovulation tests from CD 11 to see when I might ovulate for future reference. Got a +ve test tonight on CD 20 so DTD tonight am I right in thinking CD 20 is quite late to detect ovulation, I thought it was days 9-16 so assumed I had missed it? I did 3 tests (cheapie internet ones and CB one too!) just to make sure!
AF should be due 29/7 (so 8 days away) so if (Fx) AF is late, when can I POAS??

No that sounds about right given the coil etc this month, my cycle after mc I didn't ov til cd23 when I was always a regular 17/19 girl! My af came 10 days later and that may not have been a long enough lp for it to work as I may not have oved that day, was the surge, if you can leave it 12-14 days but a possible positive test could be got dpo10

Cd20 isn't that late in cycle if you were a 32+ dayer but it does sound abit late if your due in 8 days

I have been using the one step ones off Amazon which generally seemed to have good reviews. I am currently driving myself a bit crackers with the ov sticks though. Doing them twice a day and have now managed to convince myself that I ov'd last sunday (cd15) but only thought this in hindsight so have still been POASing. I am getting a faint line everyday but last couple of days line has been stronger - no idea what is going on so will keep POASing until get a +ve of AF comes.

Hi woody & bodi not sure about what sticks to buy. I did have some Internet cheapies. During the chemical preg thing they came up completely negative but there was definitely a line on a clearblue test.

I know what you mean about the opk obsession, I use 4 a day sometimes.

i am very irregular so using the internet cheapies otherwise i would spend a fortune but i do have clear blue digis aswell to confirm a positive.

Ok thanks. I think I'll do what you do bodi some cheap internet ones and then the cb digital ones to confirm. I think I am going to be testing a lot over the next few weeks, as I have no idea when af is due because of mc. Am really hoping I can get pg before af comes back.

It was a non-hormanal coil and the GP said my fertility would return straight away so I'm not sure if this should have an affect on my ovulation.
My cycles are pretty regular at 28 days, I have had a few 30 days and a few 26 days over the last 18 months but I alwyas work to 28 days as thats what it averages out at.
I'm assuming I wont have a long enough LP if the OPK only showed +ve on Saturday and I ovulated 24-36 hours after that.
I wasnt expecting to SWI until next month so I suppose I've not lost or gained anything. Just hope I don't always ovulate on CD20 of a 28 day cycle as then I might encounter problems!

Just been put at risk of redundancy at work this morning, talk about bad timing!!!

Feeling bloody-minded enough to still ttc in August, not sure whether that's wise though...

Oh zeux that's really shit news. Would you get a good payout if it happened? It is so hard when ttc, something always comes up to knock you off your stride.

Hope you keep your job. Actually if you get knocked up quickly it could protect you, employers are often terrified of sacking / making pregnant women redundant. Fx

bad news zeux! I think sometimes if you look at all the facts then there's never a good time to have a baby but if you're lucky enough to conceive then you will always find a way around problems! Fx for you for good news about work though.

Still driving myself crazy with ov sticks and no sign of a positive. If my ambiguous +ve was actually right then i'm 8DPO and convincing myself that my boobs hurt and i'm feeling really tired! might have to crack out the hpt at the end of the week.

Sorry to hear that zeux did they give you an idea of when you would know for certain? What do you do?

Thanks everyone for the messages of support!! Found out we will go through one month of consultation and selection, then the dismissals will take effect. I wouldn't get much money, just a month's pay in lieu of notice and a month's redundancy money, even though I've been there nearly 5 years... . Really p*ed off. It feels like sod's law given decision to ttc. And would you believe it will be the second time I've been through a redundancy process in under 6 months!

Sorry to rant.

Anyway, back to ttc. How early are people thinking of testing? bodi, are you planning to test at 10 dpo??

Zeux I'm sorry to hear your news! I've been interviewing people all day and it's amazing to hear how many redundancies are still going on. My job is always under threat for redundancy. I've adopted the attitude that it's not going to stop me from TTC as I refuse to put my life on hold...especially as my career would take a nose dive once on maternity anyway! Us ladies have so much to consider...men really don't get it!

winkle I'm glad to hear af came.... I was 42 days last cycle and it's annoying being late but at least you can start again now. I had quite a depressed spell at first but now feel ready to try again but feel a bit more relaxed about it this month.

Zeux im sorry to hear about job uncertainties. I don't really know your full situation but personally I wouldn't stop ttc. My feeling is it could take one month or it could take 5 years, you just don't know.... and you could have got pg and then been given the news, either way you'd deal with it. Any number of things could happen while you're pg or once you've had kids, but I reckon you'll be fine
