Had 2 DS's at 35 & 38.Now I'm 41 & have been trying for 15mths. should I just give all my baby stuff to the nearest charity shop?

well, just 42 and trying for no 3. Had a mc in March and still no luck (well, I'm 2 days late but I'm NOT going to test just yet, I'm NOT going to be obsessed.........)

LunarSea · 16/11/2005 12:11

I am 41 next year and ttc no. 2 (ds is 4.2). Never thought we'd still be here now, but it's over 9 years now since starting to try for #1.

Unfortunately we were stuck for ages with an unsympathetic GP who thought that taking 18 months to conceive the first time (but losing that one at 6 weeks) was proof absolute that there was no problem, so we couldn't get a referal although it took over two and a half years after that before conceiving ds, and almost another 3 years next time (ending up in a m/c at 11 weeks). Finally ran out of patience after that and self refered ourselves to a consultant, which is costing a fortune, and so far no sign of treatments working, but at least is better than still being told that everything is "obviously" fine!

Elibean & Notasheep thanks for the positive messages. I read all these replies & it does make me rationalise everything again, I realise I'm not silly to be thinking this is possible & normal.
The problem is all my 'Mummy' friends are younger than me, some by a good decade, so it is difficult to see past their fresh young faces & knees that don't creak every time they crawl alongside their kids!
Madness I know the feeling. I've wasted so many testing kits. Patience is definately a virtue in this game!

Dodsey, tell me about it - I am at least 5 years older than most other mums of 2 year olds I know! They all (pretend?) to be shocked when I say so, of course...

Good luck!

jabberwocky · 18/11/2005 02:25

Saw the Ob today and am tentatively moving forward with dh. I can tell he is weakening...

Dodsey · 18/11/2005 18:07

God I've had some terrible ovulation pains, they were so sharp they took my breath away for about twenty mins.

This has all happened in the last year, with a slight old blood bleed each time. I've read this is normal for women in their forties who are heading towards the end of their fertility!!!

Can anyone enlighten/reassure me?

OP posts:
tabitha · 18/11/2005 18:28

Dodsey,

I had ovulation pains regularly before I concieved dd3. Hope this reassures you.

Dodsey · 18/11/2005 18:32

Thanks Tabitha.

I'm such a wimp about going to the doctors so I just sit & worry instead. Thank God for MN's.

Dodsey, I've been having the most horrendous ovulation pains today - I'm sure I've only felt them once or twice before in the past.

I'm 42 and gave birth to dd2 in Feb this year. Dd1 is 3. Usual story, fell pregnant with dd1 instantly and it took 6 months to conceive dd2. As you say, I thought my fertility had come to an end and tired every method to help with my fertility. I used Persona to determine when I was ovulating and also had weekly accupuncture sessions to help. I also had an appointment booked with a Gynaecologist and actually found I was pregnant a week before the appointment was due.

Hang in there, don't give up hope and good luck to all 40+'s ttc. I have given away all maternity/baby stuff and am

Dodsey · 18/11/2005 22:24

Hey snufflepuss you know what happens now the baby stuff's away!!

The due in July 06 thread is going strong. I keep reading it in the hope i can come out of the closet & join it

Too late now, wouldn't it be nice to be starting the Due In Aug. 06 thread? How about it all you over 40 ttc'ers!

Hi, as PrettyBird mentioned, I am 44 and TTCthis is first month we have gone for it after a miscarriage in Feb. Period is due on Monday. I actually think I am very fertilegot pregnant instantly when trying for DS, and the pregnancy I miscarried. I don't feel 44 at all, and am definitely very immature(!) BTW I also gave most of my maternity and baby stuff away but that was mainly because I had friends who really needed it and I know there will be others who'll supply me if I need it (I hope).

hoxtonchick · 19/11/2005 16:54

good luck arabica

Arabica · 19/11/2005 17:30

Thanks HC! Hope to see you soon (when I am over my cold and sprained ankle)

KristinaM · 19/11/2005 18:28

Dodsey - not "All the oldies are either in bed or are out partying cos they were sensible & had their kids young".

I am 43 and have a 5yo DD, an 18 month DS and I'm also 39 weeks pregnant So definitely NOT out partying

BellaLasagne · 19/11/2005 18:52

Hi girls - just popping in to say hello.

I'm 40, dh 42, and we're ttc #3. We have 1ds and 1dd so another would be icing on the cake!

Have been ttc 'low-key' for 15 months, i.e. not actively charting, using OPKs or temping, just letting nature take her course.

Dodsey · 19/11/2005 20:01

KristinaM do you think you'll have another one after this?

Its nice to see all the over 40s success stories. And all the ones about getting pregnant after 6 momths plus. Its very easy to feel bleak about it all.

Dodsey · 20/11/2005 10:42

You're right jane313, it's easy to isolate yourself in a cloud of negativity about your age. [especially if you're surrounded by alot of young Mums]

But when you do fall pregnant (& you will)
it's these Mums that will make you feel young as you swap baby tales with them.
