Diddle · 25/10/2005 08:17

mumswish · 25/10/2005 08:41

hi ladies,

none pg or baby-related question for you.

Whats an endowment policy and where can I buy one? The mortgage we were offered is interest only for 5years so we want an endowment policy to actually pay the mortgage if you get me. Is this a good or bad idea? one my dad gave me.

Diddle · 25/10/2005 08:58

mumswish - don't know much about endowment policies sorry. I've already had a scan last Friday so i know baby is there with its little heartbeat, but i want to make sure they monitor me closely this time, so i'm not nervous at all, just hope they agree with me.

Feeling great CH, Honest

morning HK

mumswish · 25/10/2005 09:10

oh well, maybe i'll have to find another way.

I'm glad your not worried anymore didds, do you think you'll ever stop worrying?

Diddle · 25/10/2005 09:13

nope mums, i will always worry about the baby until its in my arms.

carly82 · 25/10/2005 09:15

morning girls!
just a quick question and i promise ill stop going on about it how common are evap lines? im only asking cos i done another test last night and there was a line, again only very very light and could only be seen in certain positions (see told you i was a nutter!) and i just wondered maybe this is just a common problem with some tests? anyway hope everyone is good.
DIDDLE good luck with the scan im sure all is fine and little bab is settling in nice xx

mumswish · 25/10/2005 09:16

carly - I really dont know myself and I dont want to get your hopes up but to be honest, I think its fair to say you're prob pg!

HumphreysCorner · 25/10/2005 09:17

mumswish-endowment policies are no longer done as they were a disaster a few years back and everyone had to switch to a capital repayment mortgage as the endowments didn't grow enough to repay the capital.

What you are taking out is a Homestart type of policy where you just pay the interest for the first 5 years then after that the payments will go up to normal so that you can start repaying the capital as well. You should have in your quote what the monthly repayments will go up to. The whole point of a Homestart mortgage is so that 1st time buyers can afford to buy a house and furnish it etc then usually wage increases over the years will enable you to then afford the larger repayments when they kick in. If you can afford to pay more now then why not take a capital repayment mortgage now so you can start reducing the capital. Make sure the rate will be no more that 1% above the current base rate at any time and that the interest is calculated on a daily basis.

The way to compare a good deal with various lenders is not by the rate or the monthly repayment but by the total amount payable over the term of the mortgage. All quotes will show this figure-it does look horrendous but it refects the true cost of borrowing.

As I said before, please get proper advice from a reputable lender.

Hope this helps.

Phew, that was an essay!

Diddle · 25/10/2005 09:17

carly - evap lines are common, i think they appear after you have left the test longer than you need to read it

maddyd · 25/10/2005 09:19

Morning all. Let the professional tester step in please.

Carly when did the line come up?

Postie should be here soon so i can have a go too!!!!

Diddle-good luck with your scan. I have made an appointment with the midwife for the 3rd Nov-I will be just under 6 weeks so if I am still PG then I will ask about early scans. ((xx))

carly82-which brand are you using. You need to use 1st morning wee but does sound good. www.peeonastick.com does say that if you can't see the line without holding it up and scrutinising it (like I do) then it might be an evap line. You have to lay it down-stand abit away then glance at it. Then see if you can see it. Good luck again! ((xx))

Morning HellKat, Coathanger and everyone else-nice and sunny here today thank goodness.

Back soon.

mumswish · 25/10/2005 09:23

sheesh HC - That complicated.

I understand why I cant find endowments now. As far as I know (from the way the guy on the phone explained it) this stays as a interest only mortgage unless we ask for it to be changed. I was thinking we could keep the mortgage the same and get something with it. A high interest ISA or something. Would the mortgage lender approve of that. Or should we after the 5 years insist that they let us pay capital as well now?

HumphreysCorner · 25/10/2005 09:24

maddyd-what time does your post come as I will know when to log on again? Good luck to you as well hun. ((xx))

carly82 · 25/10/2005 09:26

the test says to read the results in ten mins then discard, the line was just visible after about five mins. i went on ebay yesterday and got some 10miu so they should be here tomorrow and i will do that first thing. the stupid thing is im almost allowing myself to get a little excited and the way i look at it is if it is bfn, number one i still could be testing to early, and number two more bding (practice of course Good luck with the testing you proffesional you xx

maddyd · 25/10/2005 09:30

I would say. CONGRATS CARLY XXXXXX Evap lines dont appear after 5 mins, its when they start drying out maybe a few hours later. Well Done Chick xxxx

HumphreysCorner · 25/10/2005 09:31

mumswish-not good to just keep paying the interest as you will be still trying to repay your capital when you are a 100 years old. Bad, bad advice. Usually, the interest only payments are for 3 years so 5 years is a very long time. If you look at it another way you are paying money away for nothing as it isn't going towards your mortgage.

Stern voice-have you spoken to a dodgy dealer??? Never do a mortgage over the phone, you need to go in and look the adviser in the eye to make sure you are not being conned!

Hmmm-lecture over. Only you two can decide but beware!

maddyd · 25/10/2005 09:32

HC anytime between now and 10 usually but can be later. Dont worry im not expecting a bfp. We were rather lax on the old bding front although im sure we did it around the time i ovulated. Infact i know i did cos i recorded it on FF.

carly82 · 25/10/2005 09:33

HC thanks for your advice, i just put it on my windowsill (which is white by the way) sat down and looked at it and without moving it this way and that way i can still see the line and it def isnt colourless there is a little pink there will still do a 10 miu tomorrow if they turn up, im now off to go and tie my hands to the chair so i cant do any more tests lol
