Hiya,

I put August as its a little late for July!

I'm TTC number 4(!)

Due to test on the 15th August but don't think we have much chance this month as its only our first and DH has been ill for a few days and now I've got the bug, so not much romance happening!

So just wonderded if anyone is just starting TTC and wanted to join me?

goldmaple · 28/08/2010 04:36

I must go buy a fancy cup to wee in! :o

Madkatz - have you tried temping? after i got off the pill my cycles were really irregular and it helps predict when you ovulated and when AF is coming...

lizandlulu · 28/08/2010 09:37

is temping where you measure your temperature daily? see i even get that wrong, i thought you got hotter when you ovulated, but according that that fretilityfriends site, it drops?

goldmaple · 28/08/2010 15:09

I am definitely no expert but some people have a slight drop in temp when they ovulate, but usually the temp just goes up for 12-16 days after you ovulate and then comes down before AF. Toni Weschler wrote a great book about it all called 'Taking charge of you fertility'

question for everyone, I have a good friend's hen night next Friday... I won't be drinking but I'm not sure what to say. Any ideas for an excuse? All suggestions welcome!!:)

KLou111 · 28/08/2010 15:11

Hi all

Sorry, joined a couple of weeks ago (KatyLou111) and been unable to get on the net. Took last pill yesterday...soooooo excited!!!

WOW, can't believe the prices of those tests. Me n hubs are going on hol the end of September and have stocked up from our local £1 land!! They are £1 for 2, and we bought 3 lots when we saw them, as thought they wouldn't have them for long, but now I know amazon.co.uk have got them so cheap, I don't know what I was worrying about!!!

Just waiting for my last pill period, then we'll take it from there.

It's great reading all your posts, feels like you're not alone especially as we're not telling anyone.....well that is until hubby decided to have a few too many with a friend and turns out they are trying the end of September so will have someone to talk too on the phone.

My mum was a midwife until she retired a couple of years ago so would like to tell her but she'd cluck around like a demented woman, and like some of you have put on here, I couldn't stand the 'are you pregnant yet?' question all the time......too much pressure!!

Anyway, good luck to you all, am hoping I get a BFP by Xmas!!

KLou111 · 28/08/2010 15:13

goldmaple, say you're taking antibiotics for a chest infection or something, you can't drink taking them :)

KLou111 · 28/08/2010 18:09

Just been looking on ebay, and a seller called safe_screen (go to advanced search, search by seller) is selling pg strip tests in 5s, 10s, 25s, 30s, 50, 100s, and 500s!!!!

Works out about 18p a test inc delivery!!!

MummyAbroad · 30/08/2010 04:45

hi goldmaple Can you be the designated driver at the hen night and therefore not be able to drink?

lizandlulu I am planning to have a go at temping. I also just got the Taking Charge.. book. Its a great read. Did you sign up for the email lessons on fertilityfriend? They tell you all about temping too.

Nice tip Klou111 Now, where can I get some cheap folic acid?

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

MadKatz · 30/08/2010 08:11

Hi all,

I am temping goldmaple, and I do get the shift after ovulation, but its too late by then, which is why I'm thinking CM may be the only way I will be able to know when ovulation's coming up.

Period finished yesterday so looking forward to trying again soon!!

MummyAbroad · 30/08/2010 13:05

MadKatz, at least you know when to start POAS! I so wish I had started already so I would know what my body is doing right now!

TMI alert! I had a go at feeling my cervix for the first time in my life yesterday.Shock I am amazed that a) I could find it, b) it is so small! and c) I think I really will be able to tell the difference between, hard/soft and position.

I am hoping that combined with temping, checking CM and using OPK's I will become a fertility guru in no time Smile

petitech · 30/08/2010 17:20

Hope every1 had a great bank holiday weekend... I was feeling really excited when AF didn't arrive at end of 'estimated 28 day cycle' - but unfortunately still arrived three days later :(. On the plus side, at least I know have a better idea of what my non-pill cycle might be?!
Feel a bit gutted that didnt happen 1st month but suppose it was unrealistically really. Have ordered a saliva test thing and some cheap n cheerful ovulation and pg tests off amazon.... wondering whether to go the whole hog and get basal temp thermometer, fertility kits the lot.... or whether I just need to relax and chill out!!! Did anyone have a lucky month?!

goldmaple · 30/08/2010 18:56

Sorry to hear about AF petitech :( I am trying not to hold out hope for the first month since it is a long shot... but it's not working!

mummyabroad lol... I have not been brave enough to try feeling my cervix yet, but you've inspired me to try next cycle :o

I am finally on the 2ww... yay! (It's my first one) I will try my best not to POAS until sept 12th - anyone else testing then?

Thx for all the excuse ideas!

KLou111 · 30/08/2010 19:52

mummyabroad I got my folic acid from Heathspan.co.uk. 360 tablets for £4.95 delivered which I though was very reasonable x

cowboylover · 30/08/2010 20:23

I have just signed up so thanks for the tip, looks good so far. I dont think we did it at the right time this month so for the first time I just want my period to hurry up and come so we can get started properly x

lizandlulu · 30/08/2010 22:03

so what does your cervix actually feel like?? i have had my fingers up there for various reasons Grin but never actually felt something that i would expect to be my cervix.

mummyabroad i am loath to spend money on a book cause i keep thinking that 'next month will be my time to get pregnant' and it will be a waste of money. i cant sign up to those emails as i dont have an email address on my laptop, only on my computer at work ,and all sorts of people go on that!

MummyAbroad · 31/08/2010 00:31

OK,

Feeling your CervixShock SmileGrin

this was actually told to me by another MNer, and its nice and simple and it works.

put one foot up on the bath, put your longest (index) finger the whole way up inside you and gently sweep around in small circles until you find a small bump - thats it! if it feels hard like your nose you are not at your most fertile, if it is soft like your lips you are. Other signs to watch for are position: higher, when ovulating. lower when not and if its open (when ovulating) or closed (when not)

be brave you will learn something!!

Best thing I have learned from the book so far is that your body can get all prepared for ovulation, show lots of signs, AND THEN DELAY IT if you are stressed (house move, holiday, earthquake etc) So it doesnt matter how regular you normally are, you can get thrown off course by stress, so keep calm everyone!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

BabsH · 31/08/2010 06:54

Morning ladies,

Hope you are all well, nowt to report here, but I'm not too worried as it is the first couple of months so just trying to relax about the whole thing :)

Did you all have a good bank holiday? I was working but at least the road was quieter and we get holidays in lue so can take time off later on when everyone else is working!!!

Deysee · 31/08/2010 15:32

Afternoon Ladies!

According to the ov calculator I'm ovulating now...CM would seem to disagree. AF comes on same date each month, where am I going wrong?

Incidently, I bought my folic acid from boots, abt 6 months worth was abt a fiver. Their own range, little purple box.

Finding it really hard not to buy every book and testing method to pinpoint ovulation, want it to happen in its own good time. hmmm....thats not gonna last!

Got a nice week ahead of me so will relax and go with the flow, so long as its not AF!:)

GruffaloMama · 31/08/2010 16:29

Good luck Deysee. Goldmaple, I'd go with the 'I was on such a bender last night i can't even FACE looking at booze today...'

Mummyabroad - thanks for the info. It's amazing the stuff you learn on MN! Grin And the fertilityfriend thing sounds good. Lizandlulu, I'm also reluctant to go buy the fertility book. Am sure my local book shop does the whole monitoring what you're buying. I know half the staff and live in a small town. Before you blink half the people I know would be winking at me. And I don't want Amazon reminding me we're ttc every time i log on. Mind you the mummies I know locally know that I'm the cluckiest clucky thing you could ever meet.

Was feeling a bit bleurch earlier today. Nearly had myself convinced it was early morning sickness but actually think it's PMS/a local bug that's been doing the rounds. It's a week til I can test. Twiddling my thumbs already...

cowboylover · 31/08/2010 17:57

Im with you Babs, cut my commute in half and saved all the days back up so going away for a few days in October with DH so if we have not already we will be trying for a holiday baby as its on my 'hot week'! Smile

lizandlulu · 31/08/2010 22:48

i odnt care about people knowing we are trying, infact i am actually telling people! just ramdom peopleGrin but then, i am still in the optimistic mood, perhaps i will be getting fed up with telling people if it takes much bloody longerSmile

i am off to london on the train with mum tomorrow, making the most of dd's last full day at nursery so treating myself to the day off work and going out for the day. really looking forward to it.

petitech · 01/09/2010 19:47

I'm confused... AF came on Sunday, 3 days later than expected & only lasted 2 days :( It was definitely period like though and not the kind of implantation spotting people talk about. Does any1 know, could this mean I didn't ovulate?!

lizandlulu · 01/09/2010 22:36

right i am pretty sure i have ovulated sometime over the last couple of days because of the CM but all the ovulation tests i have done have been negative. pretty sure all the tests in my town are a dodgy batch!

petitech · 02/09/2010 08:32

Lizandlulu I had same. Aren't the tests pretty sensitive to what timer of day you test and I think they work better for done than others, I ordered a saliva test thing to tty that!

goldmaple · 02/09/2010 14:48

petitech - sorry I have no clue what a short AF means. Let us know if the saliva thing works 9are they strips or a device?)

lizandlulu I agree that the OPK don't seem to work, books says don't rely on them and i get a temp shift and CM but never a positive! Just don't ask me why I keep buying them!:)
