So its getting to that strange time of year where people are decorating for Christmas and adverts are on T.V even though its no where near X-mas. My DH and DD and DSD think we should decorate 27th of November or December 1st but I believe December 10th. what do date do you decorate

If we put up a tree (we don't do Christmas every year) it will be 22 or 23 December. Down a few days later.

Tomorrow, because my new tree is arriving and I'm fucked if I'm going to put it up (to make sure it's all there) and then taking the monster back down again: Once it's up it's staying up (although I won't decorate it yet)

December, I have too much to look forward before I make Christmas plans

Go up the week before Christmas and down on 12th night .
I don't like seeing decorations in November or early December and I don't like them taken down before New Year

On these threads I always think there's a bit of competitive cynicism. How late can people say they put it up and how full of disdain they can be for anyone who does it a day earlier.

In reality, most people put it up at the beginning of December but some do it much earlier and fair enough because who does it hurt, really?

I think it's often not cynicism. Like me, many of the anti-early-decorators love Christmas and therefore don't want it to be dragged out and diluted.

10 December for us, but we will put up the exterior decorations the first weekend in December.

But how would when some else puts up their decorations on their own home dilute it for you? Everyone should just do it when they want, no?

Real or artificial ?

If real 9/10th December otherwise it will drop, if artificial the week before. Personally not keen on decorations in November, ours are up until 6th January

Usually 2 weeks before Christmas. Real tree always. The same baubles I've had since my childhood with a few newer ones collected over the years. The oldest one might actually predate me and is probably about 50 years old, possibly more. The oldest one goes on first. Christmas trees are my favourite part of Christmas. No colour scheme beyond Christmas and coloured lights. I have two sets of Noma Victorian lanterns.

Outside lights and the festive flag go up on December 1st.

I saw someone putting up all their decorations outside today. When we passed again later the little Christmas tree was visible inside and it looked lovely but it's far too early in my opinion and putting them up on Remembrance Sunday seemed wrong. That's just my opinion though.
