So its getting to that strange time of year where people are decorating for Christmas and adverts are on T.V even though its no where near X-mas. My DH and DD and DSD think we should decorate 27th of November or December 1st but I believe December 10th. what do date do you decorate

Off topic, but search for "not quite almost Christmas time" by Tom Cardy on YouTube. Don't let it autoplay the next video of kids are around though - some of his stuff is very rude 😅

Danielle9891 · 11/11/2022 15:21

I will put them up on the 30th November for my daughter waking up on the 1st.

cantkeepawayforever · 11/11/2022 15:25

Traditionally, up Christmas eve and down on 12th Night (January 6th).

More recently, up the weekend after school ends, down the night before school goes back if that’s earlier than the 6th.

IVFNewbie · 11/11/2022 15:26

Whenever you want to.

monsteronahill · 11/11/2022 15:26

1st November!

ViktoriaPlzen · 11/11/2022 15:26

1st December here too, and I usually take it down on New Year’s Day. Wouldn’t feel right to have a tree up in November, even though I have bought a new pre-lit one this year and I’m dying to see what it looks like assembled!

imnotthatkindofmum · 11/11/2022 15:27

Weekend closest to 6th/8th which is 2 of my kids bdays. They like the tree to be part of celebrations!

womanofthemoon · 11/11/2022 15:29

We do ours on December 1st

Headabovetheparakeet · 11/11/2022 15:31

Normally the second weekend in December but not before 10th.

The first weekend of December. I love Christmas and view it as a month long celebration.

You’re my tribe! I’m horrified that people opt to take it down two days after Christmas Day to get back to “normal”. What’s so fabulous about the “normal” 11 months of the year that you want to rush back yo it?

I realise that this may be a minority view 😁

Fairislefandango · 11/11/2022 15:47

The day the dc break up from school, so around 15th December. We bring the tree in and decorate it, turn the lights off and the tree lights on and then start the annual watching of The Box of Delights!

Hbh17 · 11/11/2022 15:49

When Christmas actually starts, ie 24th December. Anything before then is Advent, so inappropriate.

I don't put my tree up until 15th for the very reason that I don't want to be fed up with it by 2 days after Christmas Day! The problem with a month-long Christmas is precisely that it begins to feel too normal and not special!

CoolShoeshine · 11/11/2022 15:56

We do first weekend in December too. If we’re not too tired after work we’ll do it on the Friday evening with takeaway and wine and Christmas songs on.

Christmas stays in December for us. We like to take the decs down on New Years Day and it feels like a fresh start.

msbevvy · 11/11/2022 15:58

Christmas Eve. Though I don't bother at all now the kids have grown up.

emmathedilemma · 11/11/2022 16:02

usually a friday evening about 10 days before Xmas but that would be 2 weeks or 1 week before Xmas this year.....i might not even bother this year as I'm away for Xmas and NY.

TheBestUsernamesAreGone · 11/11/2022 16:16

We get our real tree the last weekend of November. It brings me such joy to look at that taking it down in the first week of January is always a bit sad. The farm we get it from are really good - the tree will still look good for Christmas (but will be rather crispy by the time I take it down!)
I can't relate to people who have a tree up for less than a week - the effort I put in to making my trees look good I want a fair amount of looking-at-them time!
I think outside lights might go up this weekend but I won't switch them on for a further week.

Nectarpeach · 11/11/2022 16:17

My partner put one of our trees up while I was out this week so I'm fully in the festive mood already and will be decorating this weekend if I get the time

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 11/11/2022 16:19

Usually the first weekend in December. Will be 3rd December this year as I'm working throughout and that's my only day off till Christmas Day!

InFiveMins · 11/11/2022 16:20

I go for last weekend in November. I take mine down before January though as can't bear for it to still be up in the new year, so I like to see it up for a good month before it goes away again!

TomTraubertsBlues · 11/11/2022 16:21

December 22nd/23rd

AuntieDickhead · 11/11/2022 16:21

Weekend before Christmas until 12th night here.

Goldendoodlemum · 11/11/2022 16:22

Small bits start to creep in from mid November. Tree goes up as late in November as possible as my local farm shop does an early bird deal on trees up until the 30th November before hoiking up the price and I'm a sucker for a good deal 😂

Agree. If you've had the tree up for a month by the time it's Xmas, it won't be special any more!

cantkeepawayforever · 11/11/2022 16:26

Just wondering - anyone who pits them up very early, do you have a real tree? Ours is always real, and keeps looking good through the school Christmas holidays of a couple of weeks, but I’m not sure how good it would look by Christmas if it had already been up for a month?
