Christmas Corner

Shocked into this by shiney's terrible confession that she sees no good in Christmas cards, I open my seasonal corner as a haven to all those of us who hold the celebration of Christmas as sacred.

The lights are twinkling around us, the tree is sitting in the corner (not decorated yet, as it is, even for the most keen of us, a little early), and Santa is still compiling his lists. (Because he knows, you know).

As I am in charge of the festive corner, Champagne is in order.

We know, natch, that all is a bit too soon. But, if you're a real Christmas Corner afficionado, you've probably started some of your Christmas shopping.

So here is a place for the like minded amongst us. Share shopping tips, a recipe or two - or just enjoy a virtual glass of bubbly.

Possibly it should be you running Christmas Corner, for I fear I am much less organised.

However it was my idea. So you can just sit where I've put you.

I made my Christmas cake today - it's now packed away along with my mincemeat and Christmas pudding I made earlier this month. It's first time ever at making any of these, so very proud of myself!

I'm having a glass of wine to celebrate - and raising a toast to Queen Delia!

My Christmas shopping for dd is finished. Sold loads of our junk on EBay and used it to buy presents, all of which were bargains!
DD, who will be two next month (so I've had a birthday to buy for as well) has a wooden farm set(half price), a wooden dolls house (half price), a wooden mini cooker(in the sale), loads of plastic play food, a dolls crib and a hand knitted blanket to go into it. She also has a baby Annabel that I've put away (half price in Tesco a few months ago) that cries (I may regret that!)

For my family and close friends I am going to make sweets, (thinking truffles, fudge etc) I've already bought the little bags and ribbon. Also my first time so a little nervous about this!

Have no idea about DH though!

I'm even organising a desk of elves, where someone will write those bloody delightful cards for you.

cant wait for christmas, satsumas, baileys, stockings and sparkly tree. have finished father christmas shopping for now and will dedicate november to buying for adults, then will prob splurge on a few more stocking fillas for dc's.

I have already taken delivery of Christmas wrapping paper.

This year I plan to make sure all my gifts are wrapped as I go along. (haven't started this yet!)

And I've also bought recycled/recyclable wrapping paper this year.

I havne't started shopping yet - but I've started planning.

i just hung fairy lights in DS room and it suddenly feels like christmas. not as premature as it sounds, he is fixing on them, stays still in bed and it seems to have put him to sleep. result! would stick the bloody tree up now in there now if that worked tbh. mmm champagne

It has been a long time since i had a child believing in Santa/that face of wonder when they get presents, so i can't wait.

The best thing about Christmas is the sense of wonder and magic. Which is what my corner is all about.

So far I have bought the main presents for the 3 children. 4 boxes of mince pies, 3 tins of sweets (Roses, Celebrations, and Quality Streets), a couple of boxes of Christmas biscuits, and the Christmas pud.

I'm putting together the M&S meat order this week and have a food list to tick off as I buy things.

I am determined to have all Christmas presents bought and wrapped by the end of November, in fact I am buying wrapping paper tomorrow to wrap what I already have.

Oh dear God I looooove Christmas.

now I have a warm toasty feeling. Much more pleasant then the tired frazzeled feeling of earlier. I am determined to bring back the long calm christmas of my childhood and have embarked on a mad free days of decluttering and clearing in preperation for the pre-christmas deep clean.

I too am trying to be organised this year so I can spend the run up being smug watching Christmas films, baking with the dcs, etc. In contrast to the usual, running around the steaming shops in a panic, grabbbing all sorts of inappropriate gifts so I can get out.

So this year, I have already bought:

Presents for the dcs and most of the stocking fillers and new stockings
About half the adults presents
Some decorations
Christmas cards
Written my small list (so I don't end up with kitchen appliances)

The upsides of doing this is shopping has been enjoyable rather than stressful and resentful (so far) and people are getting presents which are thoughtful.
The downsides are I seem to be spending more than usual. Plus blooming adverts have started and DCs are being brainwashed into thinking they now want plastic this and tat that

I adoe Christmas; food is ready ordered and menu planned, significant portion of my half of the shopping done, cards were either bought in the sales or just orddered from the school.

Dh and I were discussing starting wrapping yesterday.

My plans are so well established now that I even plan to stop MN a few days before to prvent something along the lines of last years MN-Crisis affecting things.

Christmas was fab when we weregrowing up,Dad never really had one (15th of 16 kids in a very poor family) so he went all out on it.

As I am expecting a baby to arrive in the next 3 weeks or so, I thought I'd get organised early so have bought lots of things ready, have wrap stashed away, Christmas cards bought in Jan sales and have a list ready to thrust at parents in case they ask. And we have also demolished at least 7 boxes of mince pies this year

I love Christmas! Especially now DS is old enough to climb into bed with us and get all excited about presents in the morning!

Oooh what a lovely thread! My family think I'm a bit crazy for starting my xmas shopping so early but know I feel normal.

I've got main big presents for my DC and a few little bits and bobs. We are spending Xmas with in-laws this year but having an open house at ours on Boxing Day.
I am just about to go and spend some money on the Book People website - getting xmas presents for all kids and a new xmas book for my two. Such a fantastic site -can't believe the bargains!
And then going to book our tickets to see Father Christmas at Park Hall Farm on Christmas Eve.

Spacedog I am with you - definitely want to be organised now so that I can enjoy the build up to Xmas and do lots of Xmassy things.
