Christmas Corner

Shocked into this by shiney's terrible confession that she sees no good in Christmas cards, I open my seasonal corner as a haven to all those of us who hold the celebration of Christmas as sacred.

The lights are twinkling around us, the tree is sitting in the corner (not decorated yet, as it is, even for the most keen of us, a little early), and Santa is still compiling his lists. (Because he knows, you know).

As I am in charge of the festive corner, Champagne is in order.

We know, natch, that all is a bit too soon. But, if you're a real Christmas Corner afficionado, you've probably started some of your Christmas shopping.

So here is a place for the like minded amongst us. Share shopping tips, a recipe or two - or just enjoy a virtual glass of bubbly.

I'm very impressed by all the shopping that's going on here!

It's DH I always have problems with. He has very simple tastes - his music and sport, especially Bath rugby.

I'm thinking of buying him an electronic book/e-reader thingy but am clueless as to which to buy. I suspect that they will be vastly improved in the next few years ...

DH is the only person I havent thought about this year, mainly because he is so goddamn difficult to buy for, and its his Birthday on Friday and I have used up all my good ideas.

Got some bargains in Toys R Us today, and my orders from Lush and Stocking Filler came yesterday.

My brother and SIL have their birthdays in the run up to Christmas, which I always find irritating!

This year I have bottled out and have just sent my brother cash.

Oooh, hooray hoorah. I have been on Maternity Leave, but get my first (half!) paycheque this Fri when my DSis and I are going Christmas Shopping!!!

It is DD's first Christmas and am so very excited...although have a problem in that DH never had Christmas when he was little (brought up in Ghana, so did go to Church etc., but no Christmas dinner/presents/santa etc) and so had his first Christmas when we moved in together 5 years ago. My DSis lived with us at the time and we made a huge first Christmas, threw away his tree (the size of my little finger!) and now he loves it...feel he will find it hard to pass the christmas mantle on to DD !!!

Hooray for Christmas

bitofadramaqueen · 28/10/2009 22:03

Ooh, can I join you? I'd have popped by earlier, but have been very busy Christmas shopping.

Now the presents are nearly done, I need to turn my attention to other Christmas plans. Counting down the days till the first weekend in December, which is officially Christmas tree shopping, present wrapping and fizz drinking time in our house.

Any champagne and mince pies left?

theghastlyspectreoflissielou · 29/10/2009 18:27

have bought xmas cards from debenhams today, 50p for 26!! am also currently perusing outdoor lights, getting excited now!!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 29/10/2009 18:33

Can I come in please, I've started my mincemeat today. I'm doing Delia's recipe so just have to bung it in a low oven tommorrow and the whole house will smell like christmas

I also made some onion jam to see what it's like. If it's nice I'll make more for pressies I think.

I have the christmas editions of my food magazines aswell which always makes me feel festive..

And I've bought DS2's main pressie too.

theghastlyspectreoflissielou · 30/10/2009 15:34

oh, Im so excited, have ordered wrapping paper and special storage case, and been to local indoor market and ordered the duck for xmas day, bought orange, cranberry and chestnut stuffing and xmas puds. woo hoo!!!

CDMforever · 30/10/2009 21:41

Oooohh, Doyouthinktheysaurus, I forgot about the food magazines christmas editions!! Will splurge tomorrow.
I too love wrapping the pressies. Usually do this on the evening the tree goes up when all DCs tucked up, watch a film with a big mug of tea and shortbread biscuits...can't wait!
Another christmas ritual chez moi is The Reading of the Christmas Radio Times. And God help anyone who dares to read it before me! When I was little my brother and I used to tick all the programmes we wanted to watch and write a large V next to the ones to video. Happy days........
Have seen the wrapping paper I'd like at M and S. Lots of red and white this year methinks.
Yes, can't remember who said this but I also think that the build up is better than the actual day! How odd???
