Poncetastic Christmas Thread 2026

Thought I would start this year's thread as there are plenty of folk starting to chat about Christmas makes, bakes and crafts on the Christmas boards.

Wherever you are, Fellatio, here's to you. I hope you're brining a turkey and had crafting authentic organic woven tinsel somewhere!

Here is Fellatio's traditional thread opening:

"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobs worth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapés and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessie’s' on the packet, this is not the thread for you"

Welcome, all, and let the Poncing commence!

Oh, I have a jar of mincemeat in the cupboard, I can make Christmas scones! Use any fruit scone recipe but use mincemeat in place of the fruit. They’re so good!

I'm just catching up, but yes they are very much a thing. I confess I have not made this recipe before, but it gets 5 stars and looks pretty foolproof. As I am also about to pick a load of pears, I am going to give this a go.

My Dad just makes pear puree with his which I find rather dreary, but I guess it could be spiced up a bit with some mixed spice and nutmeg for example.

Another one interested- what do you do wiht pickled pears?

Thank you for the thread I look forward to every year from July on, @RainbowZebraWarrior

I'll certainly raise a glass to Fellatio.

This year, I have yet again begun to indulge in my wild dream of creating cute little Christmas-themed Altoid box dioramas that my adult DCs will adore, and cherish forever. I fear I've left it too late.

I made an orange flavoured almond flour olive oil cake earlier in the year, and my DD and I decided it would be excellent as a Christmas offering, especially if I managed to coat it with a really thin layer of tempered dark chocolate.

HannahDefoesChristmasHamper · 10/09/2026 07:02

"Fellatio!" 🥂

The cake plan sounds splendid. I hope the realisation of the chocolate layer is suitably poncetastic @mathanxiety

Ok jumping in! I make Christmas cake every year for DH and PIL (I don’t actually eat it myself - don’t like dark fruit cakes) - an example from previous years. I always fill my own crackers and make a wreath. I might make a quilt for a Christmas present this year.

Hello!!! I have been hoping you would turn up at some point soon. Lovely to 'see' you as always 😊

Thank you for the welcome! I look forward to the thread every year, such a happy, hyggelig place. ☺️ <also raises a glass to fellatio>

This was last years front door offering to match the bright orange front door, my Christmas cards and the stars I became obsessed with and made hundreds of, then wondered what to do with them. I’ve already booked myself onto several Christmas craft courses, including one at the RHS (feeling posh).

I love faffing about and am looking forward to seeing the results of other people’s faffing.

@Soupdragon41 beautiful! Trumpton could've used those stars for her scandi theme... Love the pretty colours.

Hohohopeful · 10/09/2026 09:38

Ooh, my favourite thread. Nice to see it starting a little early again. I've had many name changes and mostly never achieve poncing as well as some others here, but the children have already thrown in christmas music and demanded some christmas crafts so I am ready this year!

I have a bag of frozen cranberries so I need to make cranberry sauce. I don't want a chutney, but rather a sweet sauce more like the jars. Does anyone have a nice one they rely on?

Also here awaiting Trumpton's theme!

NowLight1000ChristmasLights · 10/09/2026 09:46

@Hohohopeful It's probably exceedingly old fashioned by now but I use Delia's recipe.

Do you please have a link to the instructions for those stars? They're beautiful.

Hi outofideas,

it was a kit I bought from Cotton Clara https://cottonclara.com/products/froebel-stars?_pos=3&_sid=a76d1eefa&_ss=r

but I’m sure there will be something online if you google Froebel Stars. Be warned, they are addictive!

I like the Ina Garten Barefoot Contessa recipe @Hohohopeful I figure it’s an American thing so an American recipe seems appropriate! homeiswheretheboatis.net/2020/11/21/ina-gartens-make-ahead-cranberry-sauce/

What a marvellous idea. I have never thought of this. I often make mincemeat shoervread though (typical plain shoerbread recipe with a couple of tablespoons of mincemeat stirred through)

I'd eat them with pork as I hate apple sauce. Ditto duck or goose. With a cheeseboard / as part of a ploughman's or with a robust salad. AI also recommends having them on sourdough toast with either goats cheese or sharp cheddar.

I love your orange front door and the wreath. (I love orange full stop. I am currently wearing a bright orange hoodie and orange cashmere beanie)

I also love those cards. I collect seaglass avidly, so this is my similar idea for cards. (Photo not mine)

List is getting longer. So many beautiful looking things.

Adds Kaluha to shopping list....

Yesss! Best thread of the year is back!

We are visiting family in Sweden for Christmas this year so not too much poncing will be done apart from maybe some cards and I have already made a load of chilli jam! 🌶️

Last year I made these crackers using Knots & Needles free pattern. Very easy to make and you can put a real snap inside!

Another who has a HUGE bag of almond four ready to be used. I made some choc chip and banana cookies with it recently which went down well but orange cakes sounds even better.
