We are doing a secret Santa where the rules are, something you did not know you needed. There is a budget of £10, I have a 55 year old woman (close relative) to buy for.

I am looking for ideas for something you would not know you needed. Any ideas would be amazing

A rechargeable neck reading light. You will thank me.

I honestly don’t understand spoon rests, why is it better than putting the spoon on the worktop?

What on earth? You just put your spoons straight on the work surface???? Not even on a plate!? Wild

£10 worth of breath mints and deodorant.

Pusstachio · 12/12/2025 20:07

Listerine would be a cruel interpretation of this brief… or Febreze. Or anything implying professional incompetence, like a beginners guide to x industry

Franjipanl8r · 12/12/2025 20:08

A sex toy.

PeachPlayer8 · 12/12/2025 20:24

i saw a nut bowl I’m going to get my dad it is 2 bowls kind of stacked and one has a lip so you can pop pistachio shells in. Would also be good for olives?

If she has a handbag you can get lovely key holders. This is an example of what I have but mine is a letter not a heart (I'm not a fan of heart anything)

A clip on strainer:

I am definitely adding a bag cleaning ball to the list of things I didn't know I needed from what I have seen above.

I'd also recommend a champagne bottle stopper - stops the fizz going out of your fizzy wine. Fortnums do one for £12 which might do nicely for it feeling like a bit of a "luxury" gift though obviously you can buy them much cheaper on Amazon etc.

Lakeland Clip-on Pot Strainer | Lakeland

Easily attaches to pots and bowls of various sizes. Eliminates the need for a colander. With spout for easy pouring. Made from heat-resistant silicone. Approx. 22.5 x 9cm.

A small wind up torch.
We seem to be experiencing so many more power cuts these days it helps not having to check batteries etc.

Are you in the UK?

Can of air that you can use for cleaning difficult, random things like keyboards. I only found out they were a thing recently.

I've got a hair dryer sized hand vacuum that also blows. Super duper handy for eg dusting books on bookshelves. So much easier for tiny cleans than dragging out the big vacuum.

i can’t imagine anyone using this

I use one particularly when we are in outdoor restaurants on holiday. Stops you having to put your bag on a dirty floor and slightly safer as it's usually hanging against my leg so I could tell if someone brief to grab it.

Or a bag for all your chargers and stuff when travelling.

Love this just ordered!

OldPosterNewName2025 · 12/12/2025 20:51

A handbag light.

LadyLapsang · 12/12/2025 20:54

Better you Vitamin D spray and a bra extender.

jocktamsonsbairn · 12/12/2025 21:03

I need to stay away from this! Have ordered a few things already!!

Papyrophile · 12/12/2025 21:05

My rule is, if I can't eat it, drink it or wear it, I probably don't want it. So a big yes to loud coloured gloves, and thumb's down to sensible thermals. Yes to fancy kitchen ingredients, and a hard no to anything written by David Attenborough. I am team history and I really don't want to be reproached for my ancestors' choices.

k1233 · 12/12/2025 21:18

One thing my dad gave me that I never thought I'd use is an electric screwdriver (Bosch). Oh my, it is the handiest thing ever.

They are so useful!

SparkFinder · 12/12/2025 21:36

A battery pack. A meat thermometer. Chinese chilli crisp.
