We are doing a secret Santa where the rules are, something you did not know you needed. There is a budget of £10, I have a 55 year old woman (close relative) to buy for.

I am looking for ideas for something you would not know you needed. Any ideas would be amazing

If they’re into crafting , I was given a yarn bowl and I love it. Something I never thought I needed. 🎄

CornedBeef451 · 12/12/2025 22:32

Mug warmer? I hate it when my tea goes cold.

PaddingtonTwinkles · 12/12/2025 22:46

Wheelie bin compactor.

Now our bins don’t get emptied as often, it’s a great tool to push down the rubbish/recycling.

JustSawJohnny · 12/12/2025 22:52

I like the idea of food stuffs - some good local honey with a drizzler or as someone suggested earlier, some good chilli oil, gochujang or jollof seasoning or something.

Toaster tongs are really handy tho.

No more poking crumpets with a fork.

I was given an electric cup warmer as a present and I love it - keeps my tea warm right to the last drop!

I’ve got one and it’s crap! Would love to know what make yours is!

BeardofHagrid · 12/12/2025 23:15

A pastry blender from Lakeland!! I can make pastry in less than a minute now! No more messy hands and the butter doesn’t go greasy from the warmth of your hands either. You can make other things with it, too: cookies, crumble topping. I wouldn’t live without mine now!

I’d get a USB electric lighter for candles (with the flexible arm). They are super practical and apparently not everyone owns one.

We have an upstairs one and a downstairs one.

What on earth? You just put your spoons straight on the work surface???? Not even on a plate!? Wild

Why? It’s clean, and a swipe of a cloth sorts it out afterwards.

I haven't read the full thread. 🤦🏻‍♀️
My first thought was a microwaveable wheat /heat pack 🔥 instead for a hot water bottle, because I am always cold. 🥶
Or a device/mobile phone holder, for when you're on the sofa. I think its £2 in ikea? 📱 🤳 🤔
Or even some cbd gummie sweets, to help menopausal insomniac women sleep 😆

Toast tongs are a brilliant suggestion.I didn’t even know they existed until this thread and now I really want some.

blueumbrella2016 · 12/12/2025 23:54

Big plain candles. Powercuts are always going to be a thing.

cornflakecrunchie · 13/12/2025 00:50

Please don't spend your money on any of these for me. No, PLEASE don't! They're all the type of things I've seen in odd catalogues & thought, smiling, 'who BUYS these?'
I'd put them straight in the bin. I feel as though I'm on another planet!
Not making fun of anyone or wanting to hurt feelings, I'm just.. REALLY?

Some gadgets are very useful, though. I had a Jarkey as a prezzie for instance and it's excellent. Similarly Kevlar oven gloves.

Litlit · 12/12/2025 08:58

@GrinchiestGrinch adding to the recommendation for the playing card holder. We invested in these wooden multi level style ones (not this brand) for our Uno loving children and they have been brilliant, well worth the investment.

Oh I think these might be even better for little hands as you don't hav3 to hold them! Thanks 😊

mathanxiety · 13/12/2025 04:39

A very cheap fabric shaver.

Maggiebell · 13/12/2025 05:40

I just brought a cheese grater the one you just turn the handle and it grates the cheese. As I have RA its really a good buy and I don't have to use one of those ones that you have to grate buy hand now.

Catwalking · 13/12/2025 06:14

BeardofHagrid, Just grate butter with cheese grater (finer ‘holes’) straight into flour, instantly all same size 😉.

liveforsummer · 13/12/2025 06:46

https://musthaveideas.co.uk/products/super-scissors

super scissors from must have ideas. They also do little portable scissors that also have a little blade for opening the tape on packaging.

Another idea is one of those rubber bristled broom or brush and dust pans. Game changing, especially if there is anyone with long hair or a pet in the house. So effective at getting hair up that you never even knew was in your carpet

A fabric shaver. I never knew I needed one until I bought one last month. My jumpers look good as new.

Which one exactly please?
Have tried a few but they never seem to work very well

liveforsummer · 13/12/2025 06:49

Oh and heated socks if they are outdoorsy

k1233 · 13/12/2025 07:05

I have and love my Microwave rice cooker - 15 mins for perfect rice every time. Rinse the rice and follow the instructions. I've had mine for a very long time.

Mine is like this one

A gift you didn't know you needed

These are in budget on other sites. Brilliant at making knitwear smart again
