What are your favorite starters? Or do you skip them?

I like broccoli and stilton soup but husband and children arent keen.

We never have starters at Christmas, I’d rather fill that space with more pudding.’

This is the only correct answer.

I never do a starter with 🎄dinner. We’ll have canapés, usually something fishy, ready made M&S, an hour or so before a late dinner (5 or 6 ish). Late breakfast, no lunch as such, except for any little ones who’ll have something simple at their usual lunchtime.

I'm skipping the starter, I'm saving space for all the Yorkshire puds and roast potatoes 😛

CurlewKate · 26/11/2025 11:43

We don’t have a starter. Because cheese.

We have never had starters. Its already a huge meal who needs a 'pre-meal' right before it.

We do have 'buffet finger foods' for breakfast many hours before (thinks like bite-size pizza and spring rolls etc...) but nothing right before dinner.

We usually have desert (which is just ice cream) after a break too otherwise everything is just too much.

We skip it to have the most room for the main and all the sides. We enjoy a nice breakfast though.

We do homemade mini chicken meatballs with Asian salad and dressing.

We do a full 3 course lunch but have starter at 12, main at 4pm and dessert at 7pm.

Canapes and Fizz.

I go really retro - melon, or grapefruit, or a slice of pineapple, eaten with cutlery.

The prawn cocktail and other fishy delights star on Christmas eve, with some smoked salmon reserved to go in the Christmas day breakfast scrambled eggs.
