Can we have a thread for presents for husbands?

Just that really, looking for inspiration and I've found these kind of threads super helpful before! Husbands who don't really need/want anything but you'd like to get them something lovely and thoughtful anyway!

Previous successes have been: Swiss Army knife, really nice belt, really nice hat (we're in Australia so an Akubra), entire wheel of cheese (this worked as we had a big party so it was 'his' but would all get eaten!), Toyo Japanese toolbox for his car tools, sous vide wand.

Looking forward to hearing ideas!

Sadly, my DH has passed away, so I haven't been buying any Christmas presents for a significant other in a few years.
But I used to shop all year for him. We were not materialistic; we did not care about brand name clothing or the newest electronic, or things like that. We didn't spend money just for the purpose of having more stuff to unwrap, but tried to make our gifts meaningful. Quality and thoughtfulness over quantity.

I like to give practical gifts. Really nice luxury warm socks, a emergency survival kit to put into the car, a new fire extinguisher. Yeah I know, I know. Not very exciting right? But practical.

But sometimes I also just buy things that I think he would find fun. I got him some toys from when he was young (like Lionel or marx trains); he was a big kid at heart, and also loved mechanical banks (even if they were modern reproductions of antiques) and clockwork/windup toys especially tintype ones.

I would make him a calendar, a personalized one. One year the theme was lovely photographs from our weekly nature walks. One year was pictures of our family and pets. And one year I went racy and did a lingerie type selection of photos and surprised him with that!!

Sorry for your loss Struggle 💛

Ah today I have pretty much finished dh.
He will get socks pants jumper and pjs
But his main gift is a years worth of dates. One for each month.
tickets to local theatre, comedy tickets, booking for a restaurant, particular walk we’ve talked about doing.
Some expense up front but almost like a booklet of promises.
I know he will love it.

I thought you meant dates like Mejool dates and I thought oh actually my husband would love a years worth of mejool dates! Great idea!

Mine enjoys gardening lots and will happily stay in the garden all day in summer finding jobs to do so I have bought him some secateurs and a gardening knife ( called the “Hori hori pro”) from a company called Niwaki:

I second Niwaki secateurs. Easily the best I have ever used. Also their winter gloves.

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 20/11/2025 16:41

Apparently the only thing mine can think of that he wants is a scarf. Confused

And I am under strict 'no more socks' instructions!

Robotics kit to make a mini, but functioning, R2D2

queenofwandss · 20/11/2025 17:19

I bought mine a Perfect Draft machine last year- he loves it. Was a bit pricey and we don’t normally spend that much but it was worth it as a one off to see how much he likes it.

My husband tragically loves sailing. So I have bought him a new set of oilskins. They be pricey though. Around £500. It only happens every 10 years or so.

Last year I bought him a flying lesson for £150.

I'm going to buy mine a cider press. We have apple trees and it will create a new way to use them!

Am considering buying DH tickets for the RHS Malvern Show. Can't decide though as it's a long way away and a bit of a gamble whether we could find any childcare!

One of these - plus beer. Seems appropriate.

I have found some pretty comprehensive build guides so will be sourcing materials and probably present in a tool box or something. Haven't fully thought it out yet.

My husband still uses a paper diary so (at his request!) I'm getting him a beautiful leather bound one which takes refills for every new year - filofax style. He is also getting a brushed cotton 'lumberjack' shirt and a Meccano set. I am toying with getting him one of those Auk indoor grow lights that keep being advertised but they are stupidly expensive! He's a veg gardener though so I know would like it...

His birthday is the week before Christmas so every year I have to rack my brain for inspiration from me, the kids, and usually his entire extended family who ask for ideas... 🙄

nomeds · 25/11/2025 17:29

I usually get:

Aftershave he wouldn't buy himself
Boxers
Socks
Tops
Trainers / shoes
Chocolates
Toiletry essentials

All pretty boring but it ends up costing a fortune due to the brands. Always well received too. I'd love to find a wee random gift but he buys anything he wants!

So similar to what I usually end up getting! I scratch my brains out for other ideas but he is a difficult bugger as doesn’t have any particular hobbies or reads (other than news) 😬

thisfilmisboring123 · 25/11/2025 17:37

So far just the usual really, aftershave, toiletries, gloves and a hoodie but want to get him a coffee machine …

Does anyone has any recommendations
for one?

Ideally, not looking at something hugely expensive but wanting a bean one not the pods.

allpartofthefun · 25/11/2025 17:51

Previous gifts have been pocket binoculars, gig tickets, various books, a very strong torch, good winter coat and gloves. Always do a stocking with the same sort of bits and bobs- hot sauces, chocolates, various snacks etc.

This year I’m a bit stuck so reading this thread with interest!

WarrenTofficier · 25/11/2025 18:24

Mine is nightmare not into clothes, has amassed a life time supply of pants and socks, doesn't do aftershave, has everything he needs/want for his hobbies and the final spanner in the works he has a job that involves loads of (often short notice) travel so tickets/events/experiences are pretty tricky to. Books, booze, food, a plant 'life support kit' for his chillis and a pair of jeans are all I can muster this year. A few years ago a make your own mead kit was a hit the year before that a garden weed burner so he can blitz the driveway went down well.

A company makes small models of Brutalist buildings in concrete. I've just got my dh one of the Princes st carpark in Bristol. Very niche I know, but we both like it

Ohh what do I need to search to find those? Not DH's alley but right up little bros.

Iocanepowder · 25/11/2025 18:55

My DH’s bday is close to xmas. Getting him:

-sports watch (cheaper one than apple)
-vouchers for back massage
-lindt chocs
-shorts - to try and get him to stop walking around the house in his pants
-maybe some new trainers

caramac04 · 25/11/2025 18:58

Cycle trainer so he can work out indoors/in the garden
Phone/tablet holder for above
Decent fleece (will insist very scruffy old one is demoted for gardening only)
Smartish polo shirt
Boot socks

He really isn’t materialistic, too beardy for aftershave and has plenty of boxers and trainer socks.
