When does your Christmas start?

I’m distracting myself from a sad weekend by thinking of exciting things like Christmas!
When does Christmas start for you?
I feel like our local light switch on on 16th November is the start of Christmas with Christmas music in the car from then and probably a Christmas themed book on the go. I’ll probably have a mulled wine that weekend. Christmas films possibly from then.
Then the last weekend of November is when the tree and decorations go up - we also get out the Christmas bedding, jumpers and PJs.
Actual Christmas will start on the 20th when we’ve all finished work and school.
What about you all?

Around 20 December for us.

Glitchymn1 · 02/11/2025 18:33

Last weekend in November decs go up! Lots of planking from now, DD bought a Christmas Dec today and I may have smuggled a box of mince pies through the food shop! Bloody love Christmas!

Actual Christmas starts Christmas Eve 11am, held at DM’s as usual.

Pollqueen · 02/11/2025 18:37

The week before decorations go up, we go to patno and it's officially Christmas. It certainly doesn't start in november

Sandcaaarstle · 02/11/2025 18:38

1st December. Christmas tunes are on. I won’t listen to them until then!

Cynic17 · 02/11/2025 18:42

24th December. Obviously.

Mumofsoontobe3 · 02/11/2025 18:45

First weekend in December the decorations go up. We have young children, school age and 2 under 2 so have a festive packed December with many activities. The excitement starts to roll round more around December 20th-ish when DH finishes work until new year.

Imperfectpolly · 02/11/2025 18:50

We usually start putting up decorations and trees mid to end November. Main tree goes up second week of December.

Santa visit is booked for last weekend of November.

Christmas market visits will be mid December.

I'll be working up until Christmas eve but love making the build up special and exciting for DC.

ChristmasMad1 · 02/11/2025 19:31

I think I'm an early bird, I've already started most of my shopping for presets. Most presents will be wrapped up by 2 weeks into November, Christmas decorations normally go up after Black Friday. But I have already started doing Christmassy things

Moonlightfrog · 02/11/2025 19:46

Those saying it starts on the the 24th or the 20th…..do you not do any Christmas shopping before then? Do you not wrap presents whilst watching a cheesy Christmas movie?…..do you not touch any mince pies until then? 🤔

For me the weeks leading up to Christmas are the best, I love buying gifts, love wrapping even more and I am partial to a Greg’s mince pie….which are out now.

I have started Christmas shopping so Christmas has already started for me. Decorations don’t go up until closer to the big day, maybe 2nd week of December but we do other festive things on the run up to Christmas such as visiting Christmas markets and drinking mulled wine.

Actual Christmas when I finish work, which will be 23/24th this year.
But will have Christmas food, mulled wine, baileys etc on the go from about mid December

MaybeItsTimeForMeNow · 02/11/2025 19:59

The last week of November really as that's when we buy the tree and the village lights go on. Doesn't mean I won't have snuck in a mince pie or two though by that point though. Full mental mode will be when the kids finish for school, as I break up from work the same time this year and go back the same day too....its going to be exhausting happy chaos 😊 3 kids here aged 3-8!!

1st Dec. Ends 26th Dec

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 02/11/2025 20:07

1st of December. 🎄

mamagogo1 · 02/11/2025 20:08

Switch on locally is the 24th, I will start shopping after that.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 02/11/2025 20:14

1 December is when the Xmas mugs etc come out and we start going to Christmas events. So it starts to feel a bit Christmassy then. Decorations don't go up until a couple of weeks later though, and come down soon after New Year.

Kickinthenostalgia · 02/11/2025 22:42

When I pick up the Christmas tree usually around 3rd weekend in November…. That’s when I officially play Christmas music 😅 and step into Christmas 😜

pencilpotted · 02/11/2025 23:11

This year maybe the 7th of December when we decorate. We'll shop prior to them but for us Christmas is really from the 21st onwards to the 6th of January.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 02/11/2025 23:14

1st December. Although I’ve done most of my present shopping already.

NormasArse · 02/11/2025 23:17

When I go on the annual Winter Weekend with my walking group. We make a big dinner in a remote hostel and play games. During the day, we hike, and go for cold dips in tarns.

That’s usually mid December, then I forget about it again until Christmas Eve. We usually go to an Indian restaurant on Christmas Day, so no food prep required.

I used to host between 14 and 20 people. I much prefer it these days!

HeddaGarbled · 02/11/2025 23:20

I go to a few events in the run up, but really it starts on Christmas Eve evening when everyone’s in and I lock the front door.

Tumbleweed101 · 02/11/2025 23:23

Mine are mostly grown so Xmas isn’t the magical wonder it is with little ones. However we have lots of Xmas events at work so most of December will be about the run up. The last few years have been bad xmas’ (cancer and bereavement) so hoping to enjoy this one with family.

Usually do devs first weekend in Dec.

Pistolpunk · 03/11/2025 01:50

Mid november the decorations go up bit by bit and xmas starts from 1st dec with activities, cosy movie nights with yummy foods, pantomime and xmas village. Xmas eve will be the 27th and xmas day the 28th this year and boxing day the 29th with working the official days but it still feels as special having altered days. It will end jan 6th

mathanxiety · 03/11/2025 03:09

The weekend before, when we put the tree up and I buy the Christmas food.

Financial · 03/11/2025 03:47

1st December
No present buying until then.

On 1st December I decorate the house and start the advent countdown and candle.
I have various Christmas parties throughout December too.

I love that you’ve just shifted the days to suit you and your family.
