When does your Christmas start?

I’m distracting myself from a sad weekend by thinking of exciting things like Christmas!
When does Christmas start for you?
I feel like our local light switch on on 16th November is the start of Christmas with Christmas music in the car from then and probably a Christmas themed book on the go. I’ll probably have a mulled wine that weekend. Christmas films possibly from then.
Then the last weekend of November is when the tree and decorations go up - we also get out the Christmas bedding, jumpers and PJs.
Actual Christmas will start on the 20th when we’ve all finished work and school.
What about you all?

A few days before the 25th Dec. It's an absolutely ridiculous debacle IMO.

49mumof6 · 03/11/2025 22:47

Christmas tree goes up after the 11th, it’s my sons birthday on the 10th, even though he is 23 this year I have always wanted his birthday and Christmas separated.

MotherJessAndKittens · 03/11/2025 22:49

Apparently today as per Christmas adverts released 😂

RyanFudgingMurphy · 04/11/2025 04:56

Christmas Eve. It ends on Boxing Day.

PeonyPatch · 04/11/2025 04:58

I’ve already started putting outdoor lights up! So I guess now. Needed some cheer!

namehomesafe · 04/11/2025 06:17

1st Dec to 27th or 28th. I despise New Year so everything is away before then. I’d take Monday 1st off but it’s the start of the month and I can’t so I’ll need to wait until the evening to put the tree up. Might put a few bits and pieces out on Sunday 30th.

TattooStan · 04/11/2025 06:47

I start doing a few festive bits and pieces from December 1st. We will get our tree then, and I always spend December doing a christmas-themed jigsaw. I'll allow myself an occassional mince pie too.
I can't get into it too early or I'll be sick to death of it all by the 25th.

RaraRachael · 04/11/2025 07:02

Tree goes up about the second weekend in December. We're not massive Christmassy people tbh. Now the kids are grown up we only buy presents for about 5 people.

TheChosenTwo · 04/11/2025 07:31

20th December this year, we will all be home together and work will be finished for dh and I. I do all the Christmas shopping over 2 days, one in person day and one online day over one weekend mid December. Hate shopping and it all needs to be done so i cram it into one weekend to get everything bought and ordered, we buy for around 40 people so no way am i spreading that crappy chore out! As for wrapping, it’s not what I’d call ‘Christmassy’ and it doesn’t make me feel remotely festive 😂

mumoronegirl · 04/11/2025 07:36

Christmas presents virtually all bought, and cards. I'll wrap them and write cards in the next couple of weeks. However, we have my birthday, my daughter's birthday, my husband's birthday and my sister's birthday all in December so we won't start with decorations or a tree until the week before Christmas because otherwise birthdays get overshadowed. We will have Christmas songs on from 1at December and will have Christmas events with school. I have to be organised with presents with all the birthdays!

TheDisgustingBrothers · 04/11/2025 07:39

Officially with the tree etc on 1st Dec but in November I like to start doing a few little festive things like garden centre trip with my mum, popping into M&S cafe for their Christmas toastie etc. I find November so ‘meh’ otherwise, it’s usually when I get the urge to overhaul the whole house, do a massive sort out and deep clean before Christmas! :)

TheLivelyRose · 04/11/2025 07:41

Christmas eve. Christmas starts on christmas day and finishes on 2nd february with Candlemas.

Anything before christmas day is advent and even advent doesn't start until the fourth sunday before christmas.

I'm thoroughly sick to death of Christmas if it started in early November. And it's not christmas anyway, it's not even advent yet.

Dairymilkisminging · 04/11/2025 07:47

Dd birthday on the 19th of November so not before that. I do buy presents through the year though

Screamingabdabz · 04/11/2025 07:48

Present buying - Sept/Oct

Decorations - first free weekend in December

Spiritually - start of advent

Relaxing into it - when we break up usually around 20th Dec

Actually feeling Christmassy - Christmas Eve at church when I know all the food shopping is done and it’s just ready to happen.

wizzbitt · 04/11/2025 07:50

After we celebrate my sister’s birthday. So 28th November 😀

Deliveroo · 04/11/2025 07:52

I start working towards Christmas 12 weeks before, because I have very limited time and energy and it’s better to pace myself than try and pull it all together last minute.

I do my Christmas shopping, through November and wrap as I go, and my cooking (to freeze) through November and early December.

I don’t decorate until December, and it only feels Christmassy to me when the school holidays begin, and lasts until the dc go back in January.

If I wasn’t struggling with my energy, I’d probably resolutely ignore it all until the week before Christmas. But that’s a privilege for those with better health.

WingingItMam48 · 04/11/2025 07:56

We have an evening Christmas lights event at the zoo at the end of November so it's then I suppose as we have a couple of Christmas theatre shows bookedter that so December is all Christmassy. I already have some presents bought and will try to convince my 15 year old to start watching Christmas films with me soon

ShortColdandGrey · 04/11/2025 08:07

The last week in November but to be honest I bloody love Christmas and I sneaked in a new decoration yesterday. It was sitting staring at us from the shelves and my husband noticed it when I was in the bath 😂I am not completely convinced that he noticed it himself or if my daughter grassed on me 😊

Nowheretobeseen · 04/11/2025 08:16

Now tbh. I have a business specialising in Christmas decorations etc so I’m already (luckily) very busy! I’ve got all the present buying done and the tree will go up in about a week, mainly to get it out of the way so I can focus on work. Won’t stop until 22nd Dec before I can relax. But I enjoy it and love Christmas! 🎄

CactusPat · 04/11/2025 09:13

I like to have all the kids’ gifts bought and wrapped by end November as Dec is always very busy. Never put the tree up before December and will do Christmas crafts etc with the kids throughout (and bust out the Baileys…).

However Christmas Christmas starts when the kids have finished school and we’ve all finished work and there’s nothing left to do but hunker down, get cosy and crack open the chocs- usually 20-somethingth onwards.
