What are you doing for Christmas this week?

Disclaimer - yes I know it’s early, but this is the Christmas Board.

Over the years I’ve worked out a 12 week plan for myself so I can get it all done a little bit at a time. Last week was for reading back over my notes, starting my lists, putting aside money for gift cards (I don’t buy them until December but I put the cash in a card now), and dropping off a bag of unwanted Halloween bits from last year to the charity shop.

This week I have to have the who’s going where conversation so I can get stuck into menu planning. We typically host or visit one set of parents, and then have another family get together on each side too. I need those dates on the calendar so the teens can fit their much more exciting social lives around them.

What will you do for Christmas this week?

Congratulations @roundsquares
@MeAndMyGhostthat sounds lovely.
@ayvasilihow exciting!!

I got the mandatory chocolate oranges for £1 each in Tesco yesterday, a stocking staple.

I booked all hair, nail and beauty appointments until the new year today and picked up DD’s favourite heat protection spray and smoothing serum for her stocking.

Choclabratwatowner88 · 10/10/2025 22:55

Yesterday i ordered the stuff on my dd13 list from boots online, because I’ve been into my local (which is Massive) and they haven’t had 2/3 things she asked for. Also got my son the selection box of lynx shower gels.
today we went to pets at home. Got my dog an advent, some doggy tarts for Xmas and Boxing Day and some Christmas cookies. Also found an advent calender for the hamster which I of course purchased aswell. Then went to the range and found a retro santa table cover, and got the crackers as actually found some decent ones with actual prizes and not the stupid puzzles or family games.
also ordered the nuts (salted, dry roasted and pistachios) and some frozen parsnips on the Tesco due to some Sunday 🤭

cosyblankethome · 11/10/2025 07:03

I bought advent calendars yesterday and two refill bags of the marks and Spencer very merry much as well as a bottle of their bailies equivalent with cherry in it which I hope DH likes.

ChewbaccasMrs · 11/10/2025 10:01

So far I've made a list for all the stockings I have to do, 8 plus I'll get a few bits for our 2 Grandchildren to go in with what their mums are putting in them(something I've been asked to do)I've decided to do feasty stockings this year so it'll all be treats and drinks in them this year.

I've made a few lists of what I want to buy and I've bought 17 presents and 2 stocking fillers so far, next week I'm getting the advent calendars(9 of them)and then I just have about a billion things left to do 😁.

HappyAsASandboy · 11/10/2025 20:00

@GellerYeller you’re not too late for Christmas puddings! Stir up Sunday is the traditional day for making Christmas puddings and it is 23rd November this year Smile

Bellyblueboy · 11/10/2025 20:38

I have booked my M&S food slot.

Bought Christmas mugs.

Bought an electric carving knife.

Ordered logs to keep the fire going for the week

roundsquares · 12/10/2025 01:40

Thanks for the messages of congratulations, it is appreciated 😊

M&S food to order shop done today (only got a few small things as we tend to do veggies ourselves and get our turkey from a local butcher)

Started Christmas shopping for DDs tonight. Was actually quite impressed with what I was able to find for them so quickly, I did assume it would take a few weeks of browsing to find as much as I did. I would say I’m just under half done for them, which is amazing! Buzzed about that.

Probably won’t be doing too much shopping for a few weeks now as our cars are both due MOT at the start of next month and both need work done so RIP my bank balance, sadly.

I may take a trip to TK Maxx tomorrow though for a quick browse. I always find the first few weeks of their seasonal items are the best so I like to get in early before it’s picked over. I don’t need any decorations for the tree but would like something to dress the dining table with.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 12/10/2025 23:13

I have sat with DH today and made a list of everyone we need to buy gifts for as well as jotting down ideas. I am about 50% done with shopping but still a long way to go.

Allthings · 16/10/2025 09:41

I’ve booked and started to fill my Christmas delivery slot.

Annoyingly I am still waiting for ideas from DC as to what to get them and DGC, so I feel as if I have ground to a halt with present buying.

FurForksSake · 16/10/2025 11:21

DH and I are talking presents, his sister is moving house and he was going to get her vouchers. We’ve found some lovely art prints that she’s going to love instead.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 16/10/2025 12:20

I’m heading to collect my TU pyjama order from Sainsbury’s, well Argos really, and then my plan is to go to M&S and get everything else that goes on the Xmas Eve hamper.
Mixture of children and adults this year so thinking a tin of chocolates, some festive Percy pigs, a bottle of port and a candle. We always reuse the same book and I will get the children snow fairy bath bombs from lush nearer the time.

frozendaisy · 16/10/2025 12:33

Taken delivery of a couple of stocking presents, I think H is sorting new tech for the teen's main present so I mean that's most of it ticked off.

I am researching some unsolved cases games for a couple of presents for families.

And I am at stuck at a crossroads with MY, my main indulgence, of the winter scene, challenging christmas jigsaw, 1000-1500 pieces, I love doing this so it's not a bad job but I can't find one it's unsettling.

I brought out all the Christmas bits and have a couple of books, for kids, couple of christmas lego sets to take to charity shop.

frozendaisy · 16/10/2025 12:34

And I've looked at home made boozy mincemeat jars and think I might get the things lined up (mostly the soaking of dried fruits in alcohol) lined up

FurForksSake · 16/10/2025 12:37

@frozendaisy can you share your unsolved cases and puzzle when you choose?

frozendaisy · 16/10/2025 12:53

This jigsaw currently in top place but no final decision as of yet!

frozendaisy · 16/10/2025 12:57

@FurForksSake
Search for Cryptic Killers murder case files, and pick one, there are quite a few, you can decide whether it's someone you are "glad are dead" or would like to solve the murder for! Depends on how you want to approach these things.
I am drawn to the Miami one

Openmouthinsertfood · 17/10/2025 21:28

Thanks to THIS bumped thread I am just about to purcahse some crackers online. 🎅

Openmouthinsertfood · 17/10/2025 21:48

*Purchase, it won't let me edit. 😛

Openmouthinsertfood · 05/10/2025 16:26

Put the decorations and tree up. 😊I couldn't wait any longer and I love the decorations and tree and want to enjoy them as much as possible. Last year I waited till November and it just seemed to whizz by too quickly, so I'm getting in early this year. 😁🎄🎁I've even wrapped all the presents I have so far and have put them under the tree.

Are you serious?

Openmouthinsertfood · 17/10/2025 23:17

@ChaliceinWonderland Yup, I have the tree lights on now. I know I'm not the only one as the washing machine repair man said he'd seen some decorated outside their houses already. I just think, the way the world is at the moment, if you can find a little joy, or even spread a little joy, where's the harm in that?

Edited

Find joy in autumnal things? Lights, candles pumpkins, harvest, hearty puddings, British fruit, leaf colours, conkers, sloe berry picking ,preserve cooking etc etc.

I know this is the Christmas thread but it’s not Christmas.

Openmouthinsertfood · 18/10/2025 00:32

"I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year".
😅Seriously, my favourite season of the year is winter. I love Christmas and belong to a year round Christmas forum, I like Christmas in July on QVC, I like Rudolf days and Leon. It's my happy place. I'm not hurting anyone with my decs up. TBH I was discussing with a friend the other day about the lovely autumn decor and homewares in the shops, but I just have nowhere to store it all. I don't want to buy things just to have to throw them/give them away a few weeks later. Out of Easter, Autumn, Hallowe'en and Christmas decorations I know which one I'd rather have.

WannaFOffOnHoliday · 18/10/2025 02:14

Well i got Christmas selection boxes but ate them

WannaFOffOnHoliday · 18/10/2025 02:17
