Disclaimer - yes I know it’s early, but this is the Christmas Board.

Over the years I’ve worked out a 12 week plan for myself so I can get it all done a little bit at a time. Last week was for reading back over my notes, starting my lists, putting aside money for gift cards (I don’t buy them until December but I put the cash in a card now), and dropping off a bag of unwanted Halloween bits from last year to the charity shop.

This week I have to have the who’s going where conversation so I can get stuck into menu planning. We typically host or visit one set of parents, and then have another family get together on each side too. I need those dates on the calendar so the teens can fit their much more exciting social lives around them.

What will you do for Christmas this week?

Ordered my turkey.

LastNameBeeswaxFirstNameNunnuyar · 08/10/2025 20:53

Can't actually believe this is happening because I usually have my lists ready for months and then shop sales in the last couple of weeks... but I have just purchased the last item on my list for DC2. I have a budget I will be sticking to so no chance of last minute additions. So that's me done for this week. I feel very organised and a bit out of sorts 😂

We don't have any family apart from our immediate circle and we do Secret Santa for everyone else (all adults apart from DC2) which means I only have 1 more thing to purchase apart from cracker fillers so I'll be enjoying the threads and seeing what everyone else is purchasing instead of shopping myself

Planning to look at snow globes in TK Maxx. They usually have some stunning musical ones. Taking delivery of a lovely pendant for DM. Going through charity catalogues ( I already have at least 3) to choose gifts. Got quite a lot from the RNLI last year.

Unintentional Christmas prep here!
Both kids chose gig tickets so that’s one present each sorted.
I’ve made and frozen FIL’s favourite ginger pudding for Christmas. Plus a massive batch of Yorkshires and roast veg.
I may make some Christmas puddins although I fear I’ve left it a bit late.

I NEED the ginger pudding recipe!! Please would you share it?

LittleCarrot12 · 09/10/2025 08:21

Took advantage of prime deals and bought a VR headset. Will be gutted if it’s cheaper at BF. Also got my advent calendars

Allthings · 09/10/2025 08:23

@MarmaladeSandwich7 I had forgotten to try and squeeze a trip into TK Maxx in the next month. I like to get any shopping trips done before things start to ramp up and places get crowded.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/10/2025 08:35

I've just booked my Booths collection for Christmas Eve. Xmas Grin

I've also ordered / received some books for DS' presents.

Dontcallmescarface · 09/10/2025 09:03

Nothing. I've got .more important things to focus on this week

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 09/10/2025 09:28

I am about to take a dozen parcels to the post office as @AliasGrape‘s Vinted inspiration went well.
This afternoon I plan to clear out the linen cupboard, I’m sure a few pillow slips are past their best, and make a list of any replacements needed.
Teen DD has definitely outgrown the more childlike festive bedding so will get those to the charity shop.

Which one did you go for? I am also in 2 minds as to whether I should wait until BF 🫠

I do hope you're joking but if not won't everything be dusty and a bit sad by the time it's actually Christmas?

I love Christmas but I wait until Halloween, Guy Fawkes night and Remembrance Sunday are out of the way! A colleague at work puts hers up at Halloween and takes them down Boxing dayConfused

Openmouthinsertfood · 09/10/2025 18:44

Just cooked a mini roast dinner for the first time in my new flat with new electric oven (Had gas for 20 years before I moved.) as practice for Christmas Day. I'm glad I did as I now have a better idea of timings and shelf placement. Will have another go before the big day to get my timings just right. No hardship there though! 😂

Then why are you on the Christmas board!

OutOfDateTreacle · 10/10/2025 09:49

Bought the dried fruit for my Christmas cake
Finished buying bits for my (adult) kids’ stockings
Pre-made a load of really good chicken stock - it’s for general use too but a big Tupperware of it is in the freezer, specifically ear-marked for the Christmas Day gravy

^ this is all I have done towards Christmas so far, other than buying some gig tickets for my husband as part of his present

Cravey · 10/10/2025 14:05

I’ve painted the garden room for guests and sorted both grandchildren’s gifts this week. I feel as if I’m behind but I think it’s because I’ve been unwell the past few weeks ( dvt ). However slowly getting there and determined to have that garden room up and ready by next week.

BerthaFlapjack · 10/10/2025 14:27

Nothing.

Christmas is very low key here, nothing needs to be done until about December 23rd.

MYOB12 · 10/10/2025 15:14

Im going through a list of stuff I need to get to have someone build a gaming pc for my DS. I have no idea what any of it means! 😂

roundsquares · 10/10/2025 17:33

Today is the first day I have thought about Christmas- myself and my fiance got married last week so I swore no Christmas prep at all until our wedding had happened!

Currently in the deep clean/organise the house stage of prep. And do my M&S food order tonight.

We have two young DDs so I do need to start earlier this year- last year was a bit chaotic. We both work in very busy industries at Christmas time so there’s very little time in December to do much because there’s so much going on in work, so planning to be finished earlier this year so we can actually enjoy the run up to Christmas rather than be stressed.

Allthings · 10/10/2025 19:24

@roundsquares many congratulations.

FurForksSake · 10/10/2025 19:27

Yes, congratulations!!

ive ordered a Christmas present for my niece today, and the bits to make wreaths arrived from Temu today.

I might trial the nigella Christmas morning muffins this weekend.

HansHolbein · 10/10/2025 19:29

Bought advent calendars and mini marshmallows for the hot chocolate - always seem to leave them till the last minute and can never get them!

NoWordForFluffy · 10/10/2025 19:29

The muffins are lovely, @FurForksSake. I make them often. Very moreish. Make lots! 😋 Xmas Grin

MeAndMyGhost · 10/10/2025 19:35

Just purchased two tickets for me and DH to listen to the London Community Gospel Choir perform a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. I'm very excited!

momtoboys · 10/10/2025 19:46

😂

ayvasili · 10/10/2025 20:11

We finally got a windfall that we have been waiting on, and promptly spent most of it on tickets to Australia, accommodation and various experiences while we are there 😁😁😁 Xmas on the beach with some prawns on the barbie this year!!
