What cheap afterthought gift has ended up a massive hit?!

For us, it's two 'mummy bunnies' who have babies that appear in their toy hutch (some weird mechanism where they drop down from the roof). They were mega reduced on Amazon last week so I bought one for each DD, even though it is really tat and I try to avoid tat mainly.

Well, the absolute amazement and joy when DD1 checked her hutch to find four babies in it. She's been playing with them for 30 mins now. DD2 about to be awoken from a nap and will see what she makes of it.

Anyone else had some surprise hits?

A really small replica Euros football that I actually bought by mistake thinking it was a normal size one at a bargain price, £4.99

A £3 pop it game although it's annoyingly noisy.

A crimpit. Thanks MN 🙂

This wasn't even a gift, but 5 year old DD spent a lot of the afternoon playing with the little plastic wind-up snowmen that came in our crackers!

This cheap little marvel bathset backpack for my 4 year old to take swimming. He has honestly had it on his back most of today, and been so excited to have a Christmas night bath. His main presents he likes, but honestly this little set has made his day. We picked it up last minute when went for some cadburys choc puds for his stocking. My other dc has taken to one of his less expensive toys, a little coffee machine. I think dh, and I could have saved a small fortune here!

Peppa and George socks. DS wore 4 socks all day so that he could wear both Peppa and George and also have his feet matching.

Love these!

DD2 was equally enamoured with her rabbit mum and babies, and thank god both of the rabbits ended up 'having' four babies, so avoided any drama there.

£20 well spent!

One of those koalas that breathes and snores. Dd11 appears to have fallen in love with it

Davros · 25/12/2024 23:36

21 year old DD loves her Mick Jagger mouth organ. Not dirt cheap but cheaper than her main gifts.

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 25/12/2024 23:36

I bought DS a natural and man made disasters book, he loved it, my sister loved looking through it, it was literally an Impulse buy.
wish I could say for DD12 but she literally loved all her stuff.

@ClaireB0205 it was this one, I can't click through for the link as it's on one of the kids accounts I've ordered through

Chicken leg socks. 10 year old

MummyNurseWifi · 25/12/2024 23:38

A karaoke machine from Temu.
A hit with the kids but not so much for us 😂😂😂

cheesychipsontheoche · 25/12/2024 23:40

@ClaireB0205 vm.tiktok.com/ZGdkJtUfk/ hopefully that works. Paid less than the current price. But definitely better than I expected

Enterthedragonqueen · 25/12/2024 23:46

The sock shop box of crackers with Christmas themed socks. I bought these last minute as they'd been reduced to half price. Everyone loved them because they were practical rather than the usual plastic tat.

Snugglemonkey · 26/12/2024 00:12

A stretchy poo catapult. Hours of fun!

We got my dd8 the same one! I was unsure if she'd enjoy it as she only plays with baby dolls every so often now but she adores it. She's named her betty and taken her to bed tonight! So pleased I went for it

Cyclingalong · 26/12/2024 00:17

M & S Christmas oven gloves for those hosting.

DoYouReally · 26/12/2024 00:21

One of my presents came with those packing nuggets that dissolve when wet.

My nephews knocked at least an hours fun out of seeing what else could make them disappear - 7up, coke, oj etc.

Woolly hats with LED lights on the front ( rechargeable) very bright even indoors, massively reduced in price so they were an impulse buy while ordering other stuff online.Grandkids spent ages hiding in dark rooms to see the light better then insisted on going out for a walk as soon as it got dark and they put themselves in charge of telling us where to go as they were the ones with the lights.

Aeroplane guns here too. I'm about to order a load more for every birthday party this year...

Do you have link to the aeroplane guns please

WWGD · 26/12/2024 00:37

Great thread. Have written down loads of ideas for next year already.

WWGD · 26/12/2024 00:38

I got teen dd a Christmas candle making set from Sainsburys on a whim last week to go on her pile. She loved it.

Juliagreeneyes · 26/12/2024 00:41

A £1 miniature glass trinket box from Flying Tiger. I mean it must be about 2cm x 2cm x 2cm. Even the cat likes it. How much did I spend on DD and that’s her top present? FML.

Years ago I needed to pop to the corner shop for foil on Christmas morning 🫣. My daughter came with me, she was around 5 or 6 at the time and asked for a cheap little toy in the shop. With all the gifts under the tree it wasn’t needed but I didn’t have the heart to say no.
She played with it day and night - it was the ugliest thing you can imagine, a rubberised plucked chicken that I didn’t realise at the time of purchase was actually a dog toy! It brought her more joy than anything else that day 😂
