For us, it's two 'mummy bunnies' who have babies that appear in their toy hutch (some weird mechanism where they drop down from the roof). They were mega reduced on Amazon last week so I bought one for each DD, even though it is really tat and I try to avoid tat mainly.

Well, the absolute amazement and joy when DD1 checked her hutch to find four babies in it. She's been playing with them for 30 mins now. DD2 about to be awoken from a nap and will see what she makes of it.

Anyone else had some surprise hits?

A £6 disco ball from Asda I got for my 17yo DS a joke Grin

evilharpy · 25/12/2024 17:59

£8 label maker from Amazon, absolute winner.

heartbroken22 · 25/12/2024 18:03

My kids loved the animal torches I got them. A lot of our kids loving the cheaper gifts 👍😂

Pin art board
Pirate hook hand

Kinetic sand, DD has spent all afternoon playing with it quietly at the table while I’ve slobbed out after dinner and eaten chocolate 🥳

yoshiblue · 25/12/2024 18:08

Blue tack in DS 11 stocking. He said it's his second favourite gift after an expensive Pokemon plush from Japan! Go figure!

A 100 pct synthetic very soft blanket of outragesly bad quality which DD randomly said she’d like from the supermarket. She’s been dragging it around like a cape, used it for sliding down a mattress on the stairs and slept with it.

Very similar here!

my DS9 and DD8 have both loved their Asda fleece blankets I added last minute. 🤦🏻‍♀️

We got an airplane gun too but its banned now... damn things powerful and I foresee someone losing an eye.

not an afterthought but the £2.98 B&M Plastic unicorn themed shoes, jewllery and tiara set seem the overall winner of the day.

Pogo stick is very popular too.

A harness to take your chicken for a walk. Daughter wants to take one of her girls for a stroll tomorrow 😀.

Elle771 · 25/12/2024 18:20

A second hand old school big camper van toy where the doors and boot open.. cost me £3 from charity shop and has been played with more than anything else 🙈🙈😅😅

For my adult DS who would not tell me what he wanted, send a link, or order anything that I could pay him back for: a ginger grater from TK Maxx and a big lump of fresh ginger (both bought yesterday).

mynameiscalypso · 25/12/2024 18:23

I bought crackers which had the makings of a xylophone in - each one had one of 8 notes and there was a guide to playing Christmas songs. DS (5) has abandoned all of his lovely presents to play with it all afternoon and I am regretting my life choices right now.

NorthernGirlie · 25/12/2024 18:24

A knock off lego type bear that I bought on TikTok shop. Was about 12 quid

It's a bloody nightmare to build, my fingers are killing, but ds has worked on it ALL day! 4000+ pieces!

Rockfordpeach · 25/12/2024 18:25

For DD (14) a cheap make up organiser that was mainly bought as a filler gift (on sale for £10) and she absolutely loves it

For DS (7) not cheap but unexpected... Bought him a small desk and chair to do his art stuff and he absolutely loves it and has spent the whole day sat at it doing crafts

itsgettingweird · 25/12/2024 18:28

The £2.50 bath pillow from b and m.

It wasn't a cheap afterthought. It was more something I saw months ago and thought "I'll Chuck that under the tree".

Wolframandhart · 25/12/2024 18:33

I bought 14 yr old dd a slow cooker yesterday because she loves her grandad’s slow cooker steak. Slow cooker steak was her christmas dinner.

SoftPlaySaturdays · 25/12/2024 18:35

Vanilla scented Vaseline with a pretty design on it. Got it for the stocking on a whim, and it cost about £1.20. Has been declared the best present ever 😄

Ghgggggg · 25/12/2024 18:43

personalised/printed jumpers. Not that cheap and were an addition rather than an afterthought. Great though.

Yourinmyspot · 25/12/2024 18:58

A remote control poo!

NancyJoan · 25/12/2024 19:01

A really crappy mini printer that prints photos from your phone onto paper like a till roll. It came from TikTok shop, was under a tenner, and has been hugely popular.

Cornflakelover · 25/12/2024 19:10

I bought my 8 year old nephew a pin ball machine and he’s not got off it all day

LordBummenbachsMagnificentBalls · 25/12/2024 19:13

A wireless thermal printer with label rolls. Everything is being labelled now. Just waiting for a “mum” sticker myself

Nothelpingishard · 25/12/2024 19:15

Added a random science museum thing vinted order as a stocking filler, and bought a phlat ball as it was £2 on Amazon a while back. They've been dubbed the best presents of the day!

Arran2024 · 25/12/2024 19:17

A holder that goes round a Stanley cup. I got it in Claire's. My daughter loves it even more than the cup.

HmmmIAmPondering · 25/12/2024 19:29

The cat got the family gifts with suitably silly gift tags, the teens got little battery operated whisks for hot chocolate, cats whiskers 🤣. There was a toy bird keyring, the cats most treasured possession a dead bird ( the cat hasn't ever caught a bird so it definitely would be it's most treasured possession!), also another toy which was a creature had a tag saying'been found under a bush in the garden so cat dragged it in'. Chocolate for grandma as she always comes with cat biscuits, so treats for her. The gift tags said things like thanks for the breakfasts, or thanks for occasionally acknowledging my existence or to my best servant and other cat like cutting remarks. Caused great hilarity and everything was very inexpensive. Also a cat naughts and crosses game with a comment that it was a pointless game as the cat would always win.
