Are the genuine Oodies worth it?
Tempted by the sale they have on!
I do have other hoodie blankets but non branded.

My dd16 has the original one. I’d say she has it about 4 years now. She prefers the cheaper one I bought her in Homestore & More. (Irish store) but ive seen them in other shops and pharmacies at Christmas time.

adulthoodisajoke · 20/11/2024 10:46

I found them to be too big. just swamped me and couldn't do anything in it. glad I tried one on before purchasing. However I know many people who love them

Forgottenmyphone · 20/11/2024 10:49

Other brands are warmer

Manchesterbythesea · 20/11/2024 10:50

Yeah I never saw the appeal, prefer my dressing gown. My ds11 has one though, I got it in Next and he lives in it!

Bitchillywillytoday · 20/11/2024 11:00

I looked at them after reading they had flash sales for £1! But alas I was way to late to get one.

But then decided to go with a Onesnug (it arrives tomorrow) looking at reviews they are well made etc, shall see.

Lots of places have them and read yesterday if you sign up for top cashback you get £15 off the Dunelm one then a % off from Dunelm making it 73p or something like that, maybe worth a look.

Also looked at Tescos offering yesterday, £30, pretty rubbish and not well made at all for the price.

Vax · 20/11/2024 11:01

The arms are too long really and they're really heavy. I prefer my knock off Amazon one but like the pattern on my
Oodie more

JurassicPark4Eva · 20/11/2024 11:01

IMO, yes. I love them 😂 and I've never found any knock off is as thick?

The dressing gowns are absolutely the best investment though - I live in mine as a house coat for WFH. I'm plus sized and have the Oodie sized dressing gown and it almost goes around me twice. It's amazing.

CourgettesCarrots · 20/11/2024 11:02

I've got a fake one. It swamps me. It's fine if you're just lazing around but if you want to cook or do the washing up forget it.

Zimunya · 20/11/2024 11:02

Love mine. I am snuggly warm even in the coldest house. But, they are a bugger to wash!

AliceTinkersAliceBand · 20/11/2024 11:05

I was bought one (I neither wanted nor needed it!) and have worn it maybe 3 times...it's too big to do anything in (even making a cup of tea is difficult because the sleeves are so long) and it's so heavy that it tends to slip back and go tight around my neck. Stick with a dressing gown.

Floralnomad · 20/11/2024 11:14

I like my Oodie but I’m tall and in fairness I don’t use it much because I live in a warm house . My daughter , who is petite , just feels swamped and claustrophobic in hers .

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 20/11/2024 11:16

True_face on eBay sell genuine Oodies. Only the styles that Oodie sells so check. I got a Quokka one (which they called Sloth design 🤣) and it had had an Oodie tag cutout inside. Same with a panda one I bought for someone else. From the bit of tag left, I could still read it and compare it to genuine Oodies and it was legit! £15.

For reference, I'm 5'8 size 12 and although it is heavy, it's soooo warm and comfortable and arm length is perfect!

FeralWoman · 20/11/2024 11:22

Oodies are amazing. So soft and warm. However they are heavy and awkward to walk around in. I find it a bit claustrophobic putting it on and off because the neck hole is kind of small compared to the rest of the garment. They now do a Button Up Oodie, which they originally called a maternity Oodie. It looks way less panic inducing.

I live in a warm climate. I don’t wear it enough for it to be worth it.

Singleandproud · 20/11/2024 11:24

Kudd.ly ones are great, much warmer than DDs Primark one and they have great multi deals and cheaper than Oodies.

EggbertHeartsTina · 20/11/2024 11:28

I like ours but be warned they couldn't cope AT ALL with their Black Friday deals last year, most people were waiting months or having orders cancelled.

RecoveringChocaholic · 20/11/2024 11:29

I love mine. It keeps me super warm even in my cold house. It is heavy. I like the cuffs so that you can push the sleeves up easily.
I would prefer it slightly smaller, I'm 5'7 and a slim size 10, it does swamp me. And the pockets are a little low, but I still wouldn't trade it for anything. I've never been this warm and I'm someone who is always cold.

LyingPaintSample · 20/11/2024 11:30

I have a love hate relationship with mine. For sitting, it's great (and attracts warm little cats to nest with you INSTANTLY, if you have some cats knocking about..). It covers your legs well, the hood is good, it's definitely very warm. The neck hole is too large though for me, it gapes at the front and makes me colder there.

But if I want to hoover or move about or tidy up, it's crap. Cannot have it in a kitchen while food is cooking because it absorbs the smells. Can't go to the toilet easily wearing it 😅 It makes me feel scruffy if anyone calls in and I'm wearing it. And it's an absolute pig to get dried after washing.

One of my kids loves theirs and lives in it. The other hates it.

Overall though, I have solid stone walls and only I am home in the day, so it's a definite necessity to save on heating bills, I can get away with no heating in the day if I'm wearing it (and a hat/Uggs).

kaela100 · 20/11/2024 11:43

I think it depends on your size. I find them heavy and difficult to manouvre even in the smallest / child sizes. It's also super annoying that I'm too tall to be able to tuck my toes inside it.

Gingerkittykat · 20/11/2024 11:58

EggbertHeartsTina · 20/11/2024 11:28

I like ours but be warned they couldn't cope AT ALL with their Black Friday deals last year, most people were waiting months or having orders cancelled.

I ordered at the begining of the month in their 50% off deal and the order took about 10 days to arrive.

They are not good at communicating, you can't check on the website when your order will be dispatched or delivered.

doodleschnoodle · 20/11/2024 12:11

Love mine but get their new S/M sizing if you want more mobility while wearing it! The standard ones do make it hard to move your arms a lot if you're going to wear for stuff like cooking etc. But if it's for sitting down and just pootling about, they're great,

DH has a cheap knock-off and it's nowhere near as cosy and doesn't wash as well. He keeps nicking mine 😠 so I've bought him one in the half-price sale.

It gets worn daily in the winter months!!

okydokethen · 20/11/2024 12:53

They are great if you feel the cold - my house is a building site and it's freezing, my son and I love ours and occasionally sleep with one on! Teen DD isn't fussed about hers but she's a much warmer person.

daffodilandtulip · 20/11/2024 12:58

For years I believed everyone saying the cheaper ones are just as good then this year I went for it ... they are not the same! Oodie is the warmest thing I've ever worn and I love it.

However, like pp said, they're massive and thick and heavy. They're just for snuggling with a book and watching tv in, you can't be cooking or doing jobs in them.

Tarnishedbutton · 20/11/2024 13:00

I have an oodie and love it but I have a dressing gown oodie which I wear a lot more I find the actual oodie difficult to do anything in but dressing gown fine.

Sneezeless · 20/11/2024 13:01

I've got an Ony, warm thick and does the job, available in plain colours only.

ObsidianTree · 20/11/2024 13:08

We all have at least 1 in the family. Had them for a few years now and rely on them heavily in winter. They are the type of thing you only need to buy once and will last for years.

There is a website that sells them really cheaply. It's not obvious they are oodies, but some are. Some have reviews saying they are oodies etc. Called 5poundstuff. We bought a few extras from there when the main ones were in the wash. Around £12 each ish. Can't remember exactly.

This one I think is a real oodie:
