It’s that time again! Anyone else waiting for the queue to open?

Joined the queue at 6.30, in at 8am, loads of slots including 24th. Done by five past.

MadisonAvenue · 05/11/2024 08:45

At 6 it said I had a 1 hour wait but that quickly dropped down and I only ended up waiting 30 mins. I booked slots for the 23rd and the 30th.
All times on those days were available.

I do wonder why all the other supermarkets have such a smooth process and Tesco has this annual scrum. Do more people want Tesco? Or do other stores have a better system?

Also pondering the same questions! Grin

Now I’m confused. Mine only goes up to 25th Nov and because of that I can’t buy some of the party food.

Im going to go “old style” and go to the shop.

Mandoidi · 05/11/2024 08:53

How fo I get to December dates?
I'm in, but the app is only showing up to 25th Nov. Have all the December ones gone?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 05/11/2024 08:54

I've just checked out having got a Xmas delivery plus all the usual weekly ones for the whole of December. Just hit 'continue shopping' & go round again for each order.

One year I forgot to do the post-Christmas slot & had logged out - but I managed to log straight back in without queueing, because I guess I was still within my 10-minute window for logging in at the head of the queue.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 05/11/2024 08:55

Today is only for delivery pass shoppers. There's another day for people who don't pay for a delivery pass & can't see the Xmas slots right now.

You need to have a delivery saver plan to access the Christmas dates in advance

Mandoidi · 05/11/2024 08:55

Oh I see you have to have the delivery saver plan for Christmas dates.
Lol nevermind then

After the amount of substitutes I ended up with last year I will do it the hard way.

I did click and collect with Sainsburys
Got there and another customer had taken all my fresh and frozen stuff
They ended up giving me all my fresh and frozen stuff twice and a £25 gift card Grin

Looks like you can repeat the experience in a week's time, but actually book a slot.

So its delivery pass only, guessing its not the off-peak pass we have then as only showing up to 2nd dec for me

I think it's a combo of more people wanting Tesco - they are the market leader - and also Tesco creating a bit of artificial hype by promoting the date they'll be released well in advance, etc. I think they also normally have a shorter time period in advance you can book which is why they have to specially release Christmas slots to have them available in November, unlike some of their competitors?

Saw all this so clicked on Tesco with my coffee at 8.20. Said I was in a queue. Got in at 8.50. All done now. Mind you, Amex kept having an oops message so had to change cards.

This is the first year I haven't been working full time - all the good slots have always gone in the past before I had chance to book one.

ApplesinmyPocket · 05/11/2024 09:12

I wanted a slot to get the special Food to Order, as while you might get substitutes for sprouts etc on the day, you WILL get the food to order no matter what.

Also, it's only available 20-23, so no Christmas slot=No special Food to Order for you! There are some nice things in there this year so I was keen to get my slot, otherwise I might not have bothered playing Tesco's little game.

Same. I just signed up for the pass (which is fine - it's useful for us anyway), but dates only up to the 2nd.

Laiste · 05/11/2024 09:17

Oh my god i've done it
<collapses in heap>

I had to get a delivery saver (only £7.99 per month - so quite good actually) and then it's let me book right up to 30th Dec.

I've booked my usual mon one for the 16th
One for Sunday 22nd (gives me a couple of days to go out and get anything which doesn't turn up)
And one for Mon 30th cos there is life after xmas remember people !!

Did it let you buy the delivery saver today, while you were on there?

I think in previous years you had to sign up some time in advance - maybe a couple of weeks? And couldn’t cancel until after the delivery date had passed. I used to sign up in October and cancel in January but then in January 2020 I didn’t get round to cancelling, and really benefited from my procrastination when Covid started ramping up that spring.

Rosiepeta · 05/11/2024 09:24

Oh thankyou! Didnt realise they were out!

It was midnight just gone this year - I managed to sneak in at 5 past!

Thatsthequestion · 05/11/2024 08:37

For slots, off peak isn’t available for today (they’re bundled in with the general release)
and you need to click the Christmas banner above the delivery slots option otherwise it will just be to the usual early dec.

Is that on the app, or is it different on the app? Asking for daughter!

Interesting. I booked Asda two weeks ago for Christmas. I guess they all do it differently.
