Poncetastic Preamble thread

I'm looking forward to the Poncetastic Thread.

In the meantime I'm starting to formulate my ideas for our Christmas Tablescape this year and also the more general scheme. I'd love to see some of yours for inspiration and also hear what you're planning. I think I'm pretty sure what I'm going to do and now the challenge is not to be silly and end up buying lots of new things to fit the theme. Barring one, or maybe two, special things, and possibly a few charity shop bargains, I'm committed to using what I've already got.

Please share your trees/tablescapes/themes.

Can I join please? I love the Poncetastic threads but this will be my first year of actually giving it a go! We'll be staying with family for Christmas Day this year but I'd like to do a few things in the run-up: make a door wreath with some of the greenery from the garden, bake a Christmas cake (and then tackle the real challenge of eating the whole thing as no-one else like Christmas cake!), and I've ordered a really simple Father Christmas embroidery kit which can hopefully be turned into a tree decoration. Hoping to get some inspiration for future poncey projects too

I was just pondering the poncestastic thread the other day. I have ponced for years, though some years have been more poncetastic than others. I think I may have passed peak ponce-ness now, as I know what works and what wasn't worth my while.

I have been coveting an Anthropologie table runner since this time last year. It has not come down in price / gone in the sale / magically appeared on Vinted for £1.50, so I am in a huff about that. I may look to try and recreate it myself (although I may be getting ideas above my stations there). I am not paying £56 for it, though.

Similarly, I have seen a 100% cashmere beanie that I covet badly. I'm willing the price to drop. Of course it will then sell out and I shall stamp my foot and be cross at myself for not just buying it as "most people would spend more than that on a night out" (this phrase appears to be one that I justify most purchases with)

I want all the ponce-ness, but on the cheap!

@RainbowZebraWarrior I mostly enjoy the Poncing threads vicariously - I am too much of a perfectionist to actually make much myself and I also end up getting overwhelmed quite easily.

But I love imagining all the lovely things I could make if I really wanted to.

Didn't manage much last year due to Long Covid plus meno but the cooler weather is calling me to make mincemeat.....

I did do dinner for 12 bit it was a bit last minute and I bought a pudding for first time in many years 😳

Was hoping to have new kitchen with 2 ovens but still have old one with annoying single one. Anyway, onwards 💪

Hello to all keen poncers! I've read the threads but never joined in. I'm ready to now.

I'd love to join this thread. I adore Christmas and our decorations go up on November 1st each year, I know that's excessively early but we have so many decorations and trees that it is a shame to go to all that work for them only to be on display for a month, plus they make us very happy and it's such a tradition now that family and friends would be disappointed to come round in November and not see our halls fully decked!
We don't tend to go for a singular theme, we have several trees of differing sizes dotted about each of which has it's own theme, though our colour scheme usually involves pink! I also reuse decorations each year, though adding more to the collection each year, we're always buying new ones ourselves and family and friends regularly contribute to our collection, but they get mixed in with the old favourites.
I'll enjoy following this thread and hearing everyone's Christmas decor plans, especially as this is likely to be the first year I'll be living vicariously through other people's Christmas preparations rather than indulging in my own. I think I may have to cut back on Christmas decorating this year as our baby girl is due just after Christmas so not sure I'll have the energy to box up and put away a full set of decorations leading to the very real danger of them staying up indefinitely, which would be my dream but which would be asking too much of the patience of my lovely husband who is already extraordinarily tolerant of my Christmas obsession!

I was given a lovely table runner last year, might try a table scape and keep my beady eyes on the charity shops. It’s a trad green/red holly on cream.

I’ve got so much going on at the moment that my resolution is to just attempt the enjoyable stuff. As @RainbowZebraWarrior says, when you know what works, do that.

I need to get my plan together for this year. Much of it went to pot last year so advent calendar fillers are bought, stockings half bought, and money for main gifts put aside.

Decorating needs serious pondering too - I fear my two dickhead kittens would destroy my lovely glass 🤔 and swing on half of what I have 🙄

I'm just getting revved up in the poncing stakes. The autumn wreath has gone on the front door and various other types of Autumnal fripperies. Looking and planning ahead to the darker months. Starting to enjoy lighting a candle in the evening.

Hi @RainbowZebraWarrior dealing with stress etc at the moment so have been cocooning myself a bit. Your wreath is wonderful (keeping up with the CC thread as usual but find it hard to post when I'm feeling overwhelmed); in fact it's so wonderful that I'm seriously contemplating getting one! I want one every year but have always resisted because I'm a terrible collector and if I get the autumn bug I might very easily get out of hand! 😁 But I might just have a little look today...😉

I've brought my Christmas Planner out (did you get one yet? I really think you should - I get so much joy and contentment out of mine) and I've started thinking about what I might do this year, but I haven't written anything down yet.

I found some lovely vintage decorations on eBay which are winging their way to me.
