CHRISTMAS CLEANALONG

Hi all. So for the first time ever I will be hosting Christmas Day dinner in my home.

And to that end, I've decided to give my house a massive clean, declutter & reorganisation (very badly needed!).

I've worked out there are 16 weekends to Christmas (well actually 17 but I want to use the last one for food prep) so I'm dividing my house into 16 sections & going to spend one day every weekend on a different section.

I'm starting this weekend. Would anyone like to join?

I'm just counting down how many weekends there are ..............

end of November we're away so none done then (DS on house/cat sitting duty )
I need to fit in a trip to Costco , probably next week

I'll need to do a condensed list - clean oven and defrost fridge/freezer will definitely feature before The Christmas Fridge.

I think I've decluttered everything that I can do but DH still needs to arrange for The Stuff In The Garage to go .

I've done a couple of spring bulb lasagnas today🌷🌼

I've got an oven clean booked in weel before Christmas so just the fridge and freezers to sort out now

I have pot luck with bulbs , got some freesias and though they got leaves , there were no flowers . They might be better next year .
There are some flowers in the garden that I cannot remember planting but every year they're right on cue .

I'll need to check my ivy cuttings , they're by the door but don;t know if there's any roots yet .
Snowdrops in green were a better success in my garden. If I plant bulbs the pesky squirrels dig them up .

I could put crocus bulbs under the ivy cuttings couldn't I?

I fear the squirrels will get some of mine tbh 😬
Crocuses under ivy could work?

Holly cuttings are recommended I think.

I have a couple of metal grids ( used to be in the kitchen) that I put over until they get established . Bigger spaces than mesh ,

Today, I did a clear out of my makeup and toiletries drawers, restocking my travel toiletries bag and repacking my “go in a hurry” suitcase. Cleaned a couple of outside windows. And did a clear out of my wardrobe. Slow and steady.

Not strictly Christmassy, but I cleaned the inside of my car 🚗

I also did the ironing after dhs work trip 😫
I have a few more gifts to wrap, but will wait until dd is back at college

Bathroom cleaned
Boiler serviced
3 loads washing done
I'll tackle the few work shirts tomorrow

I'm mid bathroom clean (aka take everything off the shelves , spray liberally , shut the door a while , go back and scrub grout then spray again )

In a while I'll put everything back .
Just finished another washing load

Tomorrow I need to wrestle the George 3-in-1 out and clean the hall carpet . The cleaner I normally use isn;t very good at extracting water but I'll try cleaning with that and sucking up the water with the George .

I've been reading your threads but procrastinating. But I have really tried today and made a good start.

I am having people around this year so have to actually do something and get ready.

Chest Freezer hopefully being defrosted next weekend 😬🤞

Managed to get the chest freezer defrosted yesterday.
Fridge freezer being done tomorrow.
I'm currently washing all the coverless duvets.
I've barely slept for days with the pain/discomfort and am utterly fed up ☹️

Ouch swamp that sounds painful and prolonged . There's something about a shoulder injury that makes me feel sick it stabs you right in the shoulderblade

I've used a small soap and toiletry company for years and just went onto their website to look at their Xmas goodies and single soaps are now £10!
Nope ☹️ Just can't pay that.

Me too swamp but when it's done you'll be rewarded with a lovely clear fridge/freezer when you open the door

Ouch. Probably a degenerative tear. Rotator cuffs can give up through use / age.

I gave myself a full thickness tear in 2018, falling down the stairs. I've had surgery on it twice. I very much feel your pain.

Get yourself doing exercises, they'll really help. Can probably find something on YouTube.

Mine has a couple of metal pipe thingies at the back and the ice clings to this , even when it is loose and I can wiggle it . I cannot chop at it with a knife as I'd damage something , so we wait ,,,,,,and wait .

I have a steamer which is ok if used safely but it fills the freezer with steam and I get iced water going down my arms . <sigh>

Today -
vacuumed
helped DD dye her hair ( she knew I'd cleaned the bathroom yesterday so was extra careful)
made the Christmas cake - smell lovely , it is cooling happily and waiting for a glug of Amaretto to be drizzled on

I'll do the oven tomorrow
