I'm a big fan of the kids kindles BUT buy the 10, not the 7 or 8. Makes a massive difference to usability. Mine has merrily bounced it's way right round the house more than once ans screen still intact.

Flubadubba · 18/08/2024 21:43

@Clucket87 what would your kids be using the ipad /Kindle for? If school age, you might want to check you can get whatever apps the school uses on it- some don't work on Kindle (but do on other Android, eg Samsung Tab).

The ones that our school use for reception weren't available on Kindle, so we opted for Samsung instead (Not as expensive, able to withstand torture and not as painful to replace if needed- got a good deal on it takes!)

ETA: just realise you said nearly 4, so it might be a moot point atm!

Blessedbethefruitz · 19/08/2024 08:15

Kids kindles - I thought they were fab at first (we got them at 1 (to avoid tantrums) and 4 at xmas). We've had them almost 2 years, and while they are bulletproof, they're also frustratingly slow. When we need to upgrade, I'll get generic/Samsung tablets and child proof them. The kids both prefer an old sim cardless Samsung phone but we only have 1 hanging about (we don't upgrade things unless something breaks).

Edited

Actually it's a good point.
My aunt works in a primary school, so I might get her to ask one of the reception teachers.
I don't mind it being slow (because let's be honest, kids are impatiently and making them wait isn't always a bad thing).
Lots to think about. Thanks all! Xx

Crimsonbow · 19/08/2024 08:27

My kids both have Kindles and I HATE them. If you don't pay the rolling subscription, half of the apps they love don't work and they are SO slow! Also, as mentioned above, the school reading app doesn't work on them.

Much prefer them to use my Samsung tablet.

Thank you for the Lush and Beckys Emporium idea/links. My kids love bath stuff and I like it cos it's not junk that's going to clutter the house.

Also, hi everyone! I've gone cold turkey on mumsnet (ads) but come back for this yearly thread 😁

Unihorn · 19/08/2024 09:06

Trying not to derail Christmas too much but we like the Amazon Fire tablets partly because they are a bit slower! I like that they can't have thousands of random apps and that they have to wait for things to load. It's £3.99 a month for Amazon Kids which covers our three children. Our primary school don't set homework so that's not been a consideration for us.

The family dashboard is really easy to manage too - the younger ones have time limits set but I can turn them on and off if needed. You can also set goals like needing them to read for 20 minutes before going on games etc.

Hi all, I was on last year’s threads and have had a name change. Been lurking for a while and enjoying all your tips.

Broken cover to say that Uniqlo are giving account holders a £10 coupon for changing their passwords, following a site upgrade. This coupon works with sale items and is valid on £70+ spends.

I have bought four of the UT tee shirts for my adult sons for Xmas/birthday as they really like them, plus two for me to wear at the gym. I have also bought two of the Marimekko bags - reduced to £7.90 each - one for me and another as a present:

https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E468673-001/00?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADM0H6icgkRzVgp3hqLxIbjUCYDAz&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2ou2BhCCARIsANAwM2GvjUDWTGZU2aLiD7_-5QlORpHllDMRsUkzsKnMqAtIOqW8F_qsXT8aAsjvEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I was immune to the delights of Uniqlo’s small round bags until I discovered this incarnation- the Marimekko one has a longer strap than their other versions.

BTW: To find Uniqlo’s menu following the upgrade, use the magnifying glass logo at the bottom of the screen.

@evtheria I meant to come back sooner and post. It won’t let me quote you, but I was so thrilled to see the 40% off White Fox. That was amazing value. I got dd the exact hoodie she wants. There was no issue with sizes or stock.
I think they do another huge sale on Black Friday, but Christmas delivery isn’t guaranteed.

I’m excited to be building my little stash 🎅🏼

MyStylish40s · 19/08/2024 09:41

PS I would love an Urban decay naked eyeshadow palette, preferably number 3, if anyone sees those discounted. They are so expensive right now

MaybeItsJustTimeToStop · 19/08/2024 09:47

@MyStylish40s the past couple of years urban decay have had the pallets on black Friday, I've purchased then I think they were 40% off and arrived quickly so if you can wait they have done decent black Fridays before so hopefully will repeat.

Number 3 palette is my favourite, too. I always buy in duty free. Just found it on this site for a great price (£25.59 with code FLASH20). I've never used them before, but their Trust Pilot reviews are good.

CatOfTheLand · 19/08/2024 11:12

Does anyone have a free delivery code or anything for Toys for a Pound please?

MyStylish40s · 19/08/2024 11:17

Thanks @MaybeItsJustTimeToStop and @RainbowZebraWarrior I think I’ll hang on until Black Friday and see if there’s a 40% off

TheMintRobin · 19/08/2024 11:22

@woodwaj came out of lurking just to say thank you for the Gruffalo tip! Just got book for £3, my boys will love it xx

Last year someone on here recommended Valentte candles and reed diffusers, I ordered some as gifts and also for myself and they really are amazing, anyway they have some great offers on the website at the moment, I just ordered 5 reed diffusers in different scents, a mega mystery box, fragrance discovery set, a bar of soap (for MIL) and a box of wax melts for just over £60 delivered.

Also went down amazingly here- my Mum ended up getting them for all of her friends' birthdays.

The number of emails they send is OTT, though!

Yes - I agree, I unsubscribed because I felt like I was being hounded, I actually think they need to review the email situation as it just drives customers away.

I saw an ad on Facebook and thought I'd have a look as it mentioned a new offer, if anyone else is interested in the mega mystery box I can post the contents on here once it arrives which should be tomorrow.

Absolutely! The products are great, and they have great offers, but it is a huge bombardment.
