I recently came across Yorkshire trading co. They have lots of kids stocking fillers in their sale at great prices like this puzzle...

I've got this puzzle and it's great fun to do; I'd highly recommend it as a gift

I am going to join this thread in the hopes of being more organised this year!

Does anyone know if smelly sets 'go off'? I've had soap and glory ones before that I got for myself in the same and when I came to use them they didn't smell as nice as they did originally, just wondered if this is the same for everything?

dsan · 01/01/2024 18:44

Thanks for the thread @Sideorderofchips I am sorry to hear you've had a difficult time recently, but very happy to see you back, the prequel threads in 2023 weren't the same without you!

I've got some great bargains for next Christmas from The Works including a Lego Christmas book and a Christmas Logo type board game. Also got a few annuals which I usually give the DC for Easter.

Also ordered from Studio, got some slippers very cheap for MIL and GMIL and pjs for the DC Xmas Eve box!

@merryandbrightdelight - some skincare seems to go ‘off’ quicker than others. However, most manufacturers say products used within two years from purchase, (as long as they are sealed), should be ok.

For example: One of my most expensive mistakes was forgetting I had bought a lot of Clinique moisturiser- when I eventually discovered it two, three years later it was absolutely rancid.

By contrast, I have some EL moisturiser, (horribly expensive- cannot afford it now), that I also put away and forgot. It must be at least three years old, but when I opened it, it was fine and I am using it up.

For me, the rule of thumb is first - does it smell ok? Second - does it look ok? If the answer to both is yes, I use it. I would be more careful with eye products, though.

Happy new year and thank you @Sideorderofchips - seeing this thread made me so happy!

Looking forward to this thread. Thank you! It was my first year on the Christmas bargains thread, and that was so helpful.

(If the person who posted about the Leapfrog headphones is on here, thank you so much! They were a big hit with my 3 year old.)

Seconded - those headphones were my best bargain from last year, in terms of both value for money and how much my DDs love them!

EllaView · 01/01/2024 20:27

@Sideorderofchips thank you so much! Lovely to see you back, and I hope this year is kind to you.

I'm keeping a firm eye on this thread .. and those who bought leapfrog earphones ? I'm looking at them as a possible birthday present for my granddaughter.. glad they've been well loved by your little ones x

1stTimeMama · 01/01/2024 21:49

I'm here and ready to get organised! I'm looking for reduced wrapping paper, I see WH Smith have some, and Studio seemed to have some great prices on theirs last night, but when I've tried to get it today and get shown TV's or mens bracelets! Has anyone seen any other online bargains for paper? I need loads!

Thank you very much for this thread. These prequel and actual Christmas ones are some of my favourite parts of Mumsnet.

Anyway, there’s already a whole MN thread about it, but Roka has a lucky dip sale. The backpacks and totes are in the Large Luxuries section at £29.99 - you might get a small, a medium or a large one. Tiny treats seem to be purses and wallets although you might get a hat or gloves. Midi Marvels include crossbody bags. If you’re interested it’s worth reading that thread to see what people have received, and whether they’d like to swop.

Free postage over £50, and possibly still with the code PORTLANDFREEDELIVERY
The code seems to work overseas, too.

Room4onemore · 01/01/2024 22:54

ive been waiting for this, thank you

I think it would be useful if the suggested sites could be pinned and each added to the top of this thread, is this possible?

If someone knows how, it'd be so useful for us not to have to trawl through countless pages.

Many thanks to all who have contributed and to all the wonderful Mumsnetters who alerted us all to our fabulous bargains in the run up to Christmas.

Happy new year everyone. 💐

Thanks for the thread, I bought so many more gifts off the prequel thread in the last two years than the main one! Although of course you have to know what people want a bit more in advance.

Very useful too for birthdays.

Some good discounts on Asda Christmas clothing if anyone wants to get ahead with matching PJ's etc. worth going back every so often as stock changes frequently. I've managed to bag all three of my kids new jumpers, PJ's, dress etc for only a few pounds each. All to be squirrelled away for next year.
