It's been a blast, but I feel ready to de-Christmas earlier than usual this year. I'm over it 🤪

@justlikebuses First thing I did this morning! Lounge feels clean and tidy and has given me the motivation to tackle the rest of the house, it's in need of a major clear out

Do you live alone or have a partner who feels the same way? Hopefully no kids!

Every year on mn people are itching to get the tree down on Boxing Day. I just can’t understand it. Even when I had to work in retail and it was a hellish day I’d still come home and relax by the tree, read, eat nice food… chill with family. I just can’t understand wanting it all to be “back to normal” on 26th or 27th. Only exception is people going away on holiday now till after the new year.

I agree! Im horrified!

Bloom15 · 26/12/2023 13:01

Of course not - it is still Christmas!

GinBlossom94 · 26/12/2023 13:05

Mines been up 3 days and is coming down tomorrow. I couldn't leave a tree up till 5/6 January, kids are back to school by then, would seem weird

bizzey · 26/12/2023 13:05

Father Christmas hasn't even visited my house yet ,🤣🤣!!

Due to the DC's work shifts/transport/gf's work shifts ...

We can't get together till tomorrow!

Even though they are adults...I always melt the tradition of presents under the tree on Christmas morning!

Mine will go down at some point in January....when I can be bothered !

And yes ...sometimes it has been after the 6th...😅!

Makemydaypunk · 26/12/2023 13:07

Wondered when the first competitive thread of taking their tree down first would appear, I am amazed one didn’t start at 12.01 on the 26th.

Bloom15 · 26/12/2023 13:10

Load of miserable buggers 😂😂😂

daffodilandtulip · 26/12/2023 13:18

I'm a November decorator and mine will all still be up until twelfth night, except for the playroom one, which needs to be back to normal before I start back work on 2nd.

Load of miserable buggers 😂😂😂

Yep! And I’m one too 😁😁
My record was up Christmas Eve and down Boxing Day two years ago.
Mine went up a week ago and will come down on Friday , after the family has gone and then I can have everything cleaned and tidy for the weekend.

ExpensiveDecorations · 26/12/2023 13:19

Our house feels neat and tidy with the tree and decorations still up, I wouldn't put up any that made it feel untidy. It's a small house too, but the tree is in a corner where it's not in the way.

cortex10 · 26/12/2023 13:36

Our tree went up on Christmas Eve afternoon ready for MIL's arrival, we had other family round for lunch yesterday and it all looked suitably festive. DH took MIL home this morning while I took the tree down. Home is now back to normal while we enjoy the rest of our time off work until new year. Probably makes a difference that our grown up DS is visiting his GF's family in the States so we'd already celebrated with them a couple of weeks ago.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2023 13:42

No tree here due to our cats being little vandals but everything else stays till Jan 1st

christmaspawpaws · 26/12/2023 13:42

No tree but I am trying to get all the cleaning done today so it's ready for not having to do it after work!

Gnomegnomegnome · 26/12/2023 13:45

Ours only went up a few days ago. I’ll probably take it down on New Year’s Eve to start the year fresh although I am enjoying it.

TripleDaisySummer · 26/12/2023 13:48

Ours goes up Christmas eve so no - though did think it could have gone up earlier this year but I was over ruled.

They'll stay up at least to New Year - usually to 12th night but not always as sometimes feel need to be back to normal quicker especially if back at school sooner in New Year.

Did notice though next door who did huge display massive 2 floor high street tree whole little display has lights switched off at midnight and they are not on today and actually several other lights down street did the same with few already taking down outdoor decorations.

megletthesecond · 26/12/2023 13:50

No, because it only went up on Friday. Living tree in a pot.

theduchessofspork · 26/12/2023 13:50

No not till after New Year, but we only put it up a few days before Christmas.

Each to their own and all that but this seems so miserable.

Mimikyuu · 26/12/2023 13:54

We took our down last night 🤣

We desperately needed the space back for all the bloody toys!

DappledThings · 26/12/2023 14:01

Nope. 6th January.

When I become a dictator it will be one of my petty laws that if you put up decorations you are not allowed to take them down until the end of the 12th of the 12 days. Punishable by an entirely disproportionate fine.

IfColoursHatedMe · 26/12/2023 14:10

My tree always goes up first weekend in December then down for twelfth night, it's the way my family did it when I was a child in the eighties so I've kept it up for my own family. It wouldn't feel like proper hogmanay without a tree.

Like other posters though I keep my fairy lights out and string them around the house until spring, I keep burning nice candles too, it helps me get through that last miserable bit of winter.

Mollyplop999 · 26/12/2023 14:13

I went to the stables this morning and when I came back everything was packed away. DH had cleaned the house from top to bottom and stripped the bed. Happy days! I love Christmas Day and the preceding build up but hate Boxing Day.

childrensward · 26/12/2023 14:16

I very nearly took it down last night but it was down by 7am this morning. Just waiting for DH to put it in the loft. All new toys in their new homes, living room all cleaned. Ready for back to work tomorrow!

PinkTonic · 26/12/2023 14:17

Yesterday was the first day of Christmas, so I won’t be taking the tree down until 12th night. It’s only been up 4 days.

mollyfolk · 26/12/2023 14:18

Our tree is basically dead 🤣 I don’t know what happened to it this year. We live in a new house that has tip top insulation maybe. I wlll take it down tomorrow. We have people visiting today - it’s like a second Christmas Day for us. I usually take it down on Jan 1st - I love starting the year with a clean house.
