It's been a blast, but I feel ready to de-Christmas earlier than usual this year. I'm over it 🤪

My tree has been up since November and I am not sick of it.

In fact I have two trees 😁

We count that Christmas ends on 25 December.

But it doesn't. It STARTS on the 25th December 🤣

Mine went up on the 25th November and will be taken down Tuesday morning 2nd Jan before I go back to work.

I love the twinkly lights on the tree so I try and get the most out of having the tree up but when I go back to work after the break then I want everything packed away.

I really love the lights too, it looks beautiful in the evenings when we are having some quiet time on the sofa and the lounge is nice and tidy.

I'm frazzled after yesterday and right now the house is in chaos. I feel taking the tree down may help 🙈

I will take my trees down after new year. I put them up a week before the end of november

Lilibert456 · 26/12/2023 10:57

It will stay up until Twelfth Night but it has only been up a few days. No wonder you are tired of it if you put it up so early.

bruffin · 26/12/2023 10:57

Mine usually goes up 2 sundays before christmas but didnt go up until last Friday this time, but we always take it down on 12th night.

Everyone has their own traditions

The tradition is 12 days of Christmas so "making your own tradition" then trying to get everyone else to change to your tradition is ridiculous.

I put mine up mid December. 15th to 18th usually the best time for a real tree. The day I got my tree was the day the garden centre got cleared out of trees so must have been lots of people doing the same thing.

My tree stays up until after New year and then is usually down a convenient weekend before 12th night. It will be up til 6th this year.

SiobhanSharpe · 26/12/2023 10:59

We don't have a tree but I'll be taking down the cards and the few decorations we have up as we're going away on Thursday and won't be back for a while.
It would be particularly sad to return from holiday already feeling blah and then having to put Christmas away when it's well after January 6.
(And my mum always used to say it was bad luck to leave Christmas decorations up after January 6.😉)

Notsonifty50 · 26/12/2023 10:38

Why would you do that? It's only the second day of Christmas!

This! Christmas is only just beginning

googledidnthelp · 26/12/2023 11:01

Yes I can't bare the thought of my 2 year old terrorising it any longer as I'll have no decorations worth putting on next year, especially as there is no nursery until 2nd Jan, it's looking sadder by the day!

As you see from this thread many posters have their own traditions. No one changes to suit other people. In our family we celebrate from Sinterklaas on 6 December to Christmas Day. Where we live now there isn’t a Boxing Day so many people are now back in work after celebrating yesterday.

🤣

I guess there's a significant number of people who observe commercial Christmas from end of Nov to Christmas day. Just seems crass somehow.

I'd be so sad to de-christmas so early

sarahc336 · 26/12/2023 11:03

We have a real one so it's starting to drop so mine will probably come down the 29th or 30th

TulipTuesday · 26/12/2023 11:03

Mine goes up earlier than most, this year it was 24th November, but it won’t be taken down yet!
I don’t have a set date to take it down, usually a weekend that fits. This year it’ll be up til 6th Jan cos the weekend before is too early for me.

HeraSyndulla · 26/12/2023 11:04

Yep, enough already. It's all coming down on Friday.

Mackeroo · 26/12/2023 11:04

No, it's not been up long and it's still Christmas, will take it down on 5th Jan.

ShufflingAlong · 26/12/2023 11:06

Could you dangle the lights from something else so the tree goes but you will have some decorations?

Scampuss · 26/12/2023 11:07

God, no, mine hasn't even been up a week yet, it'll be up until after new year 🎄

Floralnomad · 26/12/2023 11:10

Ours is coming down next Sunday ready for NY , it’s how we always do it .

DuckDuckGoose23 · 26/12/2023 11:20

Ours is coming down this evening. We have a 20 month old and he’s obsessed with taking off the baubles and hunting for chocolate decorations (my MIL had some on her tree so he’s convinced they’re in there somewhere).
It went up after he went to bed on Christmas Eve and it’s coming down as soon as he goes to bed tonight!

FestiveFruitloop · 26/12/2023 11:20

This seems to be what's changed for a lot of people. For me the run-up to Christmas = Advent, and Christmas proper doesn't start till Christmas Day. These days it feels like a lot of people view it as being Christmas from the beginning of December, with Christmas being over after Boxing Day or even Christmas Day in some cases. I'm in my 50s and perhaps showing my age here. 😄

I'm not criticising that approach btw, merely observing. I will admit it saddens me a little that decs tend to come down earlier now (I grew up with the decs always being up till Jan 6) but that's partly because I seem to find Christmas decorations help my SAD a lot. I do realise it's up to other people when they take their own decs down, but mine are often up till mid-Jan or beyond because I'm always reluctant to let go of the boost they give my MH.

MsGoodenough · 26/12/2023 11:27

I can't imagine taking Christmas decks down so early. January is depressing enough with effectively starting it on Boxing Day. My decs are up until 12th Night and I'd keep them up longer if I wasn't slightly superstitious and worried it was bad luck!

honeylulu · 26/12/2023 11:47

Certainly not. I love these more relaxed few days after the big day and it's definitely still Christmas here and lots of Christmas stuff planned for this week - panto, light show, visit to grandparents etc. Tree will stay up until Twelfth night (evening of 5th) but I will gradually take down the decorations except the lights between 2nd-4th as there are too many to do in one evening!

The nativity set stays until Candlemas (2nd Feb). The three kings get added to it on Epiphany and baby Jesus only got added at nightfall on Christmas Eve.

November decorating is forbidden in this house, very vulgar 😂

fuckityfuckityfuckfuck · 26/12/2023 11:50

Usually around the 6th Jan but this year's tree is awful, half dead already, so is coming down today.

Mumaway · 26/12/2023 11:52

Wish I was but not well (not even self inflicted) so will have to wait
