Seems to be a similar thread each year, haven’t seen one yet so thought I would start one. What gift are you most excited about giving? Be it a gift to your dc, family member, partner or friend?

I made a gift for a friend, they will either love it or hat it, it’s kind of my first attempt at taxidermy 🤣 (insect, nothing gory involved), they collect insects specimens so it’s something they won’t be shocked by.

My dd is also getting a keyboard, sadly it’s not from me as by the time she asked for one I had done the shopping so her dad will get the glory when she opens it, but I know she’s going to love it. She has autism and just loves music so much.

My DD’s gifts.

Such a sweetheart, she gave me her Christmas List that amounted to £15.00 total.

I’ve bought her lots of other things I know she will love.

She’s 12 and when we went out to pick up a few things today, I asked if she’d seen anything else she wanted to get for Christmas and she added a 60p nail varnish.

This is so sweet.

DS19 has been stuck at home for the last 6 weeks after shoulder surgery. He can’t drive and after a night out a couple of weeks ago decided that it wasn’t fun while still in a sling. I think his shoulder got knocked a few times and he was wary of friends being a bit boisterous. He has refused several invites since his friends returned from uni.
His phone is old and his SIM card unreliable . I asked him if he would like a new one for Christmas, he declined because we paid for his shoulder privately and he feels we’ve spent enough on him lately. With the current state of the NHS it would have been 2-3 yrs before he could have had it done on the NHS.
He has been brilliant throughout his recovery, he has been very independent despite it being his right shoulder and after the first week was cooking his own meals. He can’t drive until after the new year so has been stuck at home.
I have sorted out a new SIM card but also bought a new phone. It is a surprise and I look forward to seeing his face.
He's had a tough two years, both DH and I have face life limiting illnesses and being an only child he’s had to deal with it all on his own. He’s on a gap year but due to the shoulder surgery unable to work so far.
I was worried that the last few weeks stuck at home would impact on his mental health but he’s been great.
Like most late teens boys he was a bit of a pain in the arse but he seems to have turned the corner and is becoming the man we always thought he would.
So many times I read posts on Mumsnet about the difficulties mums are having with their teenage boys. They do grow up eventually and it’s such a relief when they do.

What a lovely post, he’s a credit to you!

Would love to hear how these presents were received! My mum was delighted, probably one of the best reactions to a gift she’s had. Merry Christmas everyone!

AuntMarch · 25/12/2023 12:58

Me too... I'd also really appreciate if people quoted their original comment when they update to save lots of scrolling back and forth though lol.

Glad your mum loved it as much as you hoped!

4 year old DD does a weekend class that has introduced a class bear this term. She fell in love with it on first sight - eagerly awaited her turn, didn't put it down all week and has told me several times since then that she misses it. It never occurred to her to ask Santa for it, but I've found her an identical one - can't wait to see her reaction.

Just to update - DD was delighted with the bear, has been cuddling it all morning and declared it her favourite present!

There are 3 presents that I am looking forward to see:

Two Arsenal football shirts (their home and away football kit) for DS16. He's a mad supporter of theirs. He knows that he's getting their home shirt, but not the away shirt 😊.

DS21 is getting a #44 (Lewis Hamilton) hoodie which came from the US. Irony is he bought a t- shirt from the same website and it's only just arrived in the UK (the hoodie arrived about a month ago 🤣).

I am also looking forward to DH getting his present from me but I can't tell you what it is as he knows I am on MN. 😉

Update:

DS16 loves his 2 Arsenal shirts 😊. When he opened his present with the away shirt he was speechless.

DS21 loved his hoodie and like DS16 was speechless. He told me that he loved me lots.

DH got a smart kettle which has now been set up and connected to the WiFi. It's great as he can boil it without going first down stairs. It will also be useful when he gets home from a work trip as he can boil it on the way home.

Yojjy · 25/12/2023 16:03

Aww that is so lovely!

Dd is getting a piccolo from my parents, she is a talented flautist and has been desperate for one for ages. I can't wait to see her face

ive also bought Dh a jigsaw, I've no idea whether he will like it but I'm certain he will so I'm curious whether I've got it right or not

Dd practically wet herself with excitement on opening her piccolo and has been playing Christmas music on it all afternoon right in my ear as I loaded the dishwasher
DH was really pleased with his jigsaw and said he'd like the London Underground Map I nearly got instead (the one I eventually chose was The Atom) for his birthday. He's very much looking forward to a quiet afternoon to watch Caribbean Murders (my nickname for death in paradise that I can never remember the title of) and make a start on it. I think it might be the start of a new family pastime.
THANKYOU to the people who posted about their favourite jigsaws on this board - hats where I got the idea from.

A photo of Dh when he was a baby with his dad. It’s 55 years old and was very faded, creased and in a terrible state. I took it and got it professionally restored, enlarged, and put in a new frame. Hope Dh loves it.

Something similar was my best ever for DM. Ages ago, before you could play with photos yourself, I took a very small old B&W snap to a professional. It was dated maybe 1916, showed my GM, my GGM, and my mother’s elder sister, then maybe 2.
Dm adored her Dm and Gm but had never got on with her sister, so I asked the bloke to enlarge and enhance it, if poss, and cut out the sister 😈, so I had 2 good sized pics to put into a double photo frame in blue velvet, with 2 oval spaces.

I wasn’t there on 🎄Day when she opened it, but my DF told me later that he’d never seen her so pleased with anything.

A record player for DM. She's in her 80s and has been really unwell for the last couple of years. Only yesterday, she was talking about looking into record players so age could listen to her old vinyl. DD was there too and was nodding along going "hmm, yes Gran, so what's a record player? Ah one of those....? That sounds like a great idea". Knowing full well that there was one wrapped up in the next room.

Biggest hit ever. We're having a great afternoon listening to the Beatles, Beethoven and Donovan.

lorn195 · 25/12/2023 19:37

@Yojjy thank you. We had promised to get one after Christmas Day, but the opportunity was too good to miss.

DH is very happy with his Christmas present. He's already shown BIL and PILs how it works via the app. He started boiling it from at least 1 mile away from the house while sat eating Christmas dinner 🤣. Will probably boil it before we leave later on so we just need to make a lovely cup of tea when we get home.
