Seems to be a similar thread each year, haven’t seen one yet so thought I would start one. What gift are you most excited about giving? Be it a gift to your dc, family member, partner or friend?

I made a gift for a friend, they will either love it or hat it, it’s kind of my first attempt at taxidermy 🤣 (insect, nothing gory involved), they collect insects specimens so it’s something they won’t be shocked by.

My dd is also getting a keyboard, sadly it’s not from me as by the time she asked for one I had done the shopping so her dad will get the glory when she opens it, but I know she’s going to love it. She has autism and just loves music so much.

I've got something brilliant for my DD but she probably knows my name on here, so you will have to wait until Tuesday. I know she will love it

I've bought my partner a bottle of perfume she's wanted for about 7 years but has never bought or been gifted due to the price. She has no idea and I've told her I've not got her much because I've used all my money on our families. If she isn't ecstatic I may kick her out 😂

Sharontheodopolodous · 23/12/2023 23:26

I've bought some fortum and mason chocs,a bottle of posh vodka and a voucher for her fave shop for my amazing mil

She loves us so much and does so much for us and I wanted to treat her like the queen she is (we love her too ovs)

She wouldn't dream of spending like that on herself so I did

My dp-he really wanted a certian tee,but they had sold out on the website so sadly gave up

I found one on ebay and ordered it

Along with two books I know he's always wanted to read,a speaker and a lava lamp (his broke in the 90's-his pissed up mate fell over it) and I know he really misses it

Notchangingnameagain · 23/12/2023 23:36

My DD’s gifts.

Such a sweetheart, she gave me her Christmas List that amounted to £15.00 total.

I’ve bought her lots of other things I know she will love.

She’s 12 and when we went out to pick up a few things today, I asked if she’d seen anything else she wanted to get for Christmas and she added a 60p nail varnish.

TheChosenTwo · 23/12/2023 23:41

Some trainers for my SIL. She rarely spends money on herself, doesn’t have dc, always buys for her myriad of nieces and nephews. Mentioned that she’d fallen in love with them a few weeks ago but that she couldn’t really justify the cost of them when she’d spent so much on christmas presents.
My dc had already bought their presents for her (we don’t do adult presents but the dc always buy for her as I think it’s only fair!) but I ordered the trainers and asked her boyfriend to put them under their tree on Christmas Day - the label says from Santa 😂
I know she’s going to be thrilled with them and she won’t be expecting them at all as they’re way over the kind of money we as a family spend on each other at Christmas.

Dd is getting a piccolo from my parents, she is a talented flautist and has been desperate for one for ages. I can't wait to see her face

ive also bought Dh a jigsaw, I've no idea whether he will like it but I'm certain he will so I'm curious whether I've got it right or not

Cincinnatus · 23/12/2023 23:44

Hobby horse for our daughter. She has no idea.

TheChosenTwo · 23/12/2023 23:44

Oh, and a Jo Malone set I got for a friend who covets my perfume and always has a little spray every time she comes round. I’m dropping it in to her tomorrow, we usually just do token presents, consumables etc but she has no one in her life to spoil her and she’s such a fab friend to me, I can’t wait for her to smell of her favourite scent and I think she’s just going to be really made up.
I love giving presents, it makes me so happy to make other people happy 😂

Hobby horse for our daughter. She has no idea.

How old is she ?
dd is nearly 14 and obsessed with her hobbyhorses, she makes them as well. Her stocking consists of fabric and various supplies for making them !

My gorgeous dad, DH and I were in a folk band together for years. Dad is now at the stage of early Alzheimer's where he can still play - his fingers remember - but he's forgetting words and keys and titles etc. He also has a recent obsession with fiddling with little bits of stuff, getting things out of his pockets and putting them back in over and over, it's part of the Alzheimer's and seems to comfort him.

So I've bought him a wooden box with a Celtic knotwork design carved into it, and filled it with little musical bits - banjo strings, picks, capo, tuning pipes, a little ocarina, all individually wrapped in tissue with musical notes on it.,It will take him at least an hour to unwrap it all, and he'll be fiddling with it all day 😊

I've also bought a leather-bound folder with a gold treble clef on it, which I've filled with large-print, bold versions of the songs he sings - lyrics, chords, key etc.

I've got him some other bits as well, but those are the ones I'm really excited about.

Am also excited about one of DH's stocking fillers. He has a little stone toad that lives by our bed which he is very fond of (it's his alter ego really, he's had it forever. We were chatting about presents the other night and he jokingly asked me if the toad was getting anything. So I have made it a little green spotty lily pad beanbag to sit on (I'll get my coat Blush)

DS19 has been stuck at home for the last 6 weeks after shoulder surgery. He can’t drive and after a night out a couple of weeks ago decided that it wasn’t fun while still in a sling. I think his shoulder got knocked a few times and he was wary of friends being a bit boisterous. He has refused several invites since his friends returned from uni.
His phone is old and his SIM card unreliable . I asked him if he would like a new one for Christmas, he declined because we paid for his shoulder privately and he feels we’ve spent enough on him lately. With the current state of the NHS it would have been 2-3 yrs before he could have had it done on the NHS.
He has been brilliant throughout his recovery, he has been very independent despite it being his right shoulder and after the first week was cooking his own meals. He can’t drive until after the new year so has been stuck at home.
I have sorted out a new SIM card but also bought a new phone. It is a surprise and I look forward to seeing his face.
He's had a tough two years, both DH and I have face life limiting illnesses and being an only child he’s had to deal with it all on his own. He’s on a gap year but due to the shoulder surgery unable to work so far.
I was worried that the last few weeks stuck at home would impact on his mental health but he’s been great.
Like most late teens boys he was a bit of a pain in the arse but he seems to have turned the corner and is becoming the man we always thought he would.
So many times I read posts on Mumsnet about the difficulties mums are having with their teenage boys. They do grow up eventually and it’s such a relief when they do.

A lollipop drum for 11-month-old DS2.

It's his most coveted instrument at baby classes, he tries to wrestle it from other babies if they get it and he doesn't 😅
But now he'll have his own to play until his heart's content.

Taylor Swift tickets for dd. I’ve kept them a secret since July, I am so excited to see her reaction.

Same here. I can't wait!! Everyone is in on it except her.

My son (16) said the other day he's more excited to see her open the tickets than to see what he's got to unwrap himself!

Deadringer · 24/12/2023 00:02

It's a silly one but my dd bought an Xmas outfit for her little dog and I got her matching pjs, she thought they were sold out. Other than that none of the gifts I bought are very exciting, my dc are mostly getting stuff that they asked for with a few little surprises thrown in.

Oh what a sweetie making her own! How clever.

Daughter is nearly 11. She’s never had one before and I only spotted it by chance on Amazon the other day!

restingrichface · 24/12/2023 00:03

My teenager has been obsessed with a gothic lace black dress for about three years and we bought it for her for Christmas. No idea where she'll wear it but I know it'll be her most treasured gift because she's loved it for so long.

DumpedByText · 24/12/2023 00:06

DD (16) desperately wanted to see the new Burlesque musical out next year. The tickets were pricey and I said we'd have to wait and see, but it's more or less sold out now.

I've bought her two tickets for June and she's going to be delighted. She literally talks about it daily!

nunsflipflop · 24/12/2023 00:15

My DD works really bloody hard all year. We took my DGD’s to a Christmas market (I’m a trader with my hobby business). Both girls chose a bracelet each to give her, carefully wrapped them and they’ve been stored here for me to take on Christmas Day. They aren’t expensive bracelets, 1 definitely isn’t something she would choose herself, but as her girls chose them she will be over the moon and immediately put them on. It was so lovely to see them suggest it and ask their grandad if there was any jobs they could do to earn the money to buy them. Obviously he just melted and paid.

caringcarer · 24/12/2023 00:17

I gave my DS 1 gf a Hotel Chocolate Velvetiser because she loves mine so much. I gave it to her on December 9th and she was really thrilled with it.

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 24/12/2023 00:24

Michael mcintyre tickets for DS and DH...., DS would have been too young by a few days when they were first released but some extra dates were added after his birthday. He will be super chuffed.

Watchthedoormat · 24/12/2023 00:31

The perfume DD loves but isn't expecting.
It's a 100ml bottle too.

nokidshere · 24/12/2023 00:43

I've bought DH tickets to England v W Indies cricket at Lords in July. I'm excited to be giving him them as he in currently in hospital with no chance of being home for Christmas after having a heart attack on Tuesday. As he was planning his funeral on Wednesday this will show him I don't expect to lose him anytime soon!

HeddaGarbled · 24/12/2023 00:48

Inspired by a thread on here a few days ago, I have made my H a selection box of crisps.

nokidshere · 24/12/2023 00:49

@HeddaGarbled now that would be my favourite present 😁

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/12/2023 00:51

A record player for DM. She's in her 80s and has been really unwell for the last couple of years. Only yesterday, she was talking about looking into record players so age could listen to her old vinyl. DD was there too and was nodding along going "hmm, yes Gran, so what's a record player? Ah one of those....? That sounds like a great idea". Knowing full well that there was one wrapped up in the next room.
