What are you having?

I picked up some Gouda with fenugreek (the best cheese ever), some Gouda with black truffle and some brie.

It's my Christmas Eve tradition. I'll be indulging with some crackers and olives tomorrow evening, while I watch a Christmas movie. And wine obviously.

calvados camembert
Shropshire Blue

if you’re a cheese lover try cheese and honey sandwiches at some point

ShangPie · 23/12/2023 19:34

My people!!

Every year, we have Cheese-mas in the days leading up to Christmas Day, which is basically a dinner of cheese, some cold meats and a lot of relishes.

We got a proper cheese advent calendar this year as a treat, so we have about 15 cheeses left to choose from 🤓🧀 as well as a full boneless serrano ham 🍖

now, what’s everyone drinking with it?!

MrsDilligaf · 23/12/2023 19:40

I'm not sure if it's possible to go overboard cheese wise, but I've given it a shot.

For example I appear to have three bries (2 x baron bigod and an ordinary one), and at least 13 other types.

That excludes the cheddar, halloumi and philadelphia that usually resides in the fridge.

kitchenplans · 23/12/2023 19:59

This is my our Christmas cheese selection (excluding the feta/marscapone/soft cheese etc that we're cooking with and the standard cheddar for the cheese and pineapple hedgehog). I'd completely forgotten about the brie with truffles :( And I didn't manage to get the usual half wheel of Blacksticks Blue. Still we have plenty :) I love cheese )

After reading this thread...I don't think I got enough cheese 😭😭😅!!
Some of these sound amazing !

But can I ask you cheese experts a question please

DS is the main cheese lover and I bought him a different one.
Epoisses .

I have only just realised the date on it .
It says 24/12..

DS is coming the 27 th .

Will it still be ok ?

DisforDarkChocolate · 23/12/2023 21:40

What an amazing thread,

My daughter and I love cheese so when she comes up for late Christmas I'm going to find a couple of the suggestions on here.

Heronatemygoldfish · 23/12/2023 21:51

Oooo cheese, Gromit?
This year we have

Cropwell Bishop Stilton
Boursin
Cambozola (which I adore)
Poitou-Charentes Goats' Cheese
Extra mature cheddar
Philadelphia
Wensleydale and sour cherries
I think I got a camembert too but can't remember where in the fridge I stuffed it. Grin

I was going to get some Taleggio but forgot like a twit and I'm not going back out again!

StoneColdAlibi · 23/12/2023 21:51

Truffle Brie
Cornish Cruncher
Stilton

I'm going to grab some more tomorrow. Ideally a Brillat Savarin and a Gruyère. Maybe a Dolcelatte.

Oh and DH has some Spanish truffled sheep's cheese in his stocking that o hope he shares!

StoneColdAlibi · 23/12/2023 21:54

LapinR0se · 23/12/2023 18:41

We have
Brillat Savarin
20-month aged Gruyère
Entire brie
Roquefort
Boursin
An ancient Parmesan

truffle honey
fig and balsamic chutney

3 kinds of crackers

My favourite selection posted. Have a prize 🏆

Jewelanemone · 23/12/2023 22:02

I'm the only cheese eater in the house. I've gone for:

Wensleydale
Roquefort
Blacksticks Blue
A '7' strength Cheddar

I also have some very strong pickled onions, some pickled chilli cauliflower, medjool dates and some Miller's toasts. And grapes.

Jewelanemone · 23/12/2023 22:03

Ooh, and rhubarb, apple ginger chutney!

Giggorata · 23/12/2023 22:33

A nice runny Brie
Roquefort (my favourite)
Smelly Stilton
Wensleydale and cranberry, in the shape of a star, no less.
A strong Cheddar
Something a bit like Boursin from Lidl
Got some fig chutney and various biscuits, plus some caviar, olives, grapes and salad stuff to go with it all.
Yum.

ThreeRingCircus · 23/12/2023 22:34

Our cheeseboard this year is:

Isle of Mull cheddar
Comte
Gorgonzola
Goat's cheese
Epoisses

Truffle honey, chilli jam and caramelised onion chutney for accompaniments plus baguette and grapes.

@bizzey your Epoisses will be absolutely fine. Leave it out for a few hours before you want to eat it and it smells stronger than it tastes. It's amazing!

TheFireflies · 23/12/2023 22:48

I have far, far too much cheese. I honestly didn’t think that was a thing, but I’ve proven it so this year.

Grammarnut · 23/12/2023 22:52

Cornish Yarg.

bizzey · 23/12/2023 22:54

Ohh @ThreeRingCircus ...thank you.!

timtam23 · 23/12/2023 22:56

I recently discovered smoked Red Leicester in Morrison's and really liked it so I bought some of that, also some smoked Shropshire Red (I love smoked cheese that isn't the processed German cheese), Manchego and a nice mature Cheddar (I would have bought vintage but the DCs prefer a less sharp/salty cheddar)

Aparecium · 23/12/2023 23:03

I have no idea.

Dh did the shopping and the cheese is in the fridge in the garage. Dh and I both love cheese, so there'll be enough to feed twice the number of parties in the house. He knows I love foreign cheeses as well as British, and goats' and sheep's milk cheeses as well as cows', so I expect quite a range of hard and semi-soft cheeses.

I rather like the mystery and anticipation 😁

Aydel · 23/12/2023 23:21

Me to DH: Do you think we have enough cheese?
DH: The whole fucking top shelf of the fridge is rammed with cheese, so yes.

I brought back some particularly stinky farm cheese from Hungary and the smell hits you in the face when you open the fridge.

DontCallMeBaby · 23/12/2023 23:24

Here’s ours. I’m slightly regretting the lack of goat, and I’d have liked an Epoisses but really can’t cope with it in the fridge.

IdaPolly · 23/12/2023 23:30

I've started a Cambozola already and got Coastal Bite cheddar, camembert and montagnolo blue in the fridge
