What are you having?

I picked up some Gouda with fenugreek (the best cheese ever), some Gouda with black truffle and some brie.

It's my Christmas Eve tradition. I'll be indulging with some crackers and olives tomorrow evening, while I watch a Christmas movie. And wine obviously.

We have
Brillat Savarin
20-month aged Gruyère
Entire brie
Roquefort
Boursin
An ancient Parmesan

truffle honey
fig and balsamic chutney

3 kinds of crackers

Where did you get your Brillat Saverin if you don't mind me asking? We haven't been able to find it lately!Smile

murasaki · 23/12/2023 23:40

I got in my raid today...cambozola, a tiny sliver of Stilton as DP doesn't like it, camembert, wensleydale with no fruit as that is just wrong, comte, gruyere and we already have brie. Crackers at the ready.

I adore Gouda with fenugreek and we bring back loads of it whenever we go to the Netherlands! Where can you get it in the UK??

Baron Bigod is good @Thewolvesarerunningagain

But Baron Bigod truffle is a whole other level of amazing. I can't wait to open mine up tomorrow. I've been drooling thinking about it for days.

gavisconismyfriend · 24/12/2023 00:16

We have:
36 month Comte
24 month Isle of Mull
less ripe Isle of Mull for those who don’t like cheese to bite them!
L’Etivaz
Gouda with Cumin
Wensleydale - specifically for eating with Christmas cake

Luddite26 · 24/12/2023 00:29

We have had cheese boards 3 times in the last week and intend a lot more.
But my very favourite is M & S brie on cream crackers with chilli jam or strawberry jam.and I like black bomber cheddar on Hovis digestive crackers.

Whatayear2023 · 24/12/2023 00:30

I have dairylee

DumpedByText · 24/12/2023 00:58

M&S Cornish Cruncher Cheddar and their white Stilton with apricots. Absolutely lush!

What's manchego like? I notice a few of you have it on your lists, and I've never tried it!

Did anyone else see Nigella's Amsterdam Christmas programme? She did slices of aged gouda on speculoos biscuits and now I think I need another trip to the shops so I can try it out!

LenaLamont · 24/12/2023 09:10

After going mad in recent years I’ve really scaled back the cheese this year.

That seemed sensible when looking at the state of our bank account, but I I am very much regretting that sensible approach now!

For Christmas Day with cheese loving us, Dad and SIL, Colston Bassett, Yoredale Wensleydale and Wigmore.

For Boxing Day with the palate-free in-laws, medium cheddar, Boursin, a mild Brie.

After reading this thread...I don't think I got enough cheese 😭😭😅!!
Some of these sound amazing !

But can I ask you cheese experts a question please

DS is the main cheese lover and I bought him a different one.
Epoisses .

I have only just realised the date on it .
It says 24/12..

DS is coming the 27 th .

Will it still be ok ?

Edited

Yea should be fine, cheeses by it's very nature is warm 'old' . You can even cut off mould

If it's in decent wrapping it should keep. I have some wax paper just sr for this, sorry say when I get stuff of the cheeses counter in plastic I swap it over

Oh and where is everyone getting their truffles brie from ,? Waitrose no longer sell it and the only one I've found is Aldi' but not tried it yet. Their sheep's truffle is nice though

Oldraver · 24/12/2023 09:13

Can we talk toppings ?

I love Stokes chilli jam, just the right amount of not too sweet, not to much chilli and lasts for ages once opened. I've also got their red onion marmalade but tried it

GettingStuffed · 24/12/2023 09:14

Off the top of my head
Extra mature farmhouse cheddar
Brie
Camembert
Teifi with cumin and one with seaweed
Soft goat
Hard goat
Sheep cheese
More cheddar

God knows what else DH has bought

dressedforcomfort · 24/12/2023 09:41

We have a fig chutney, a plum and port, a caramelised onion and a tomato and chilli and honey for the Brie

Hard, almost crystalline, a little like Parmesan in texture. Milder in flavour, a bit nutty. It’s really nice, a good cheese to eat by itself rather than with crackers or bread.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/12/2023 11:56

During a recent visit to DSis in The Dales, we raided the Wensleydale Creamery, and came out with sundry assorted, inc. a Dales Brie to try. However I’ve already eaten most of the Abbot’s Gold - cheddar with caramelised onions - exceedingly moreish.

Watch that epoisses when you unwrap it
If you take your eye off it, it......walks.....

OH lived Swaledale cheese but they stopped stocking it locally. Even tried the cheese stall in Newcastle. I suppose you'd need to go to the farm

carlydiamond · 24/12/2023 22:19

@Oldraver where are you based? South Durham/ North Yorks day out or lovely B&B cheese sampling holiday?
Cotherstone, Swaledale or totally recommend Teesdale www.teesdalecheesemakers.co.uk/

I bought my first (truffle) BB today on the strength of this thread. It's absolutely wonderful 😋

I paired it with a Norfolk Medlar Jelly as to not over power it.
