Do you wrap the stocking presents?

The story in our house is that presents in the Christmas stockings are from Santa. I've just realised that this means that I need separate wrapping paper for those presents especially since DD (7) picked the wrapping paper we've got at home herself this year and she's got a memory like an elephant. I don't really want to buy more wrapping paper though because we've already got tons at home and it will be difficult to get an opportunity to nip out without DD.

i do feel that wrapping adds to the anticipation and fun of presents though (even though not so great from an environmental point of view)

I'm Not even sure she still believes in Santa but she's very keen on keeping the illusion going I think so I don't want to ruin it for her by being inconsistent.

I just can't remember whether I wrapped them last year or not but it wasn't an issue.

What do you do in your house? Are the presents in the stocking wrapped?

Only the Lego.

OhRightyThen · 22/12/2023 14:21

Yes always wrap them, in that brown Kraft paper not the glitzy stuff in the shops so it looks "authentic". Presents from us are in shop paper

Raindancer411 · 22/12/2023 14:22

Ours is wrapped as like you say it builds the excitement. Also takes long before we have to get up lol

Have you any older paper?

idontlikealdi · 22/12/2023 14:24

yes, keeps them in bed longer!

Persipan · 22/12/2023 14:26

Santa brings stocking presents and does not wrap. And given that the UK uses enough wrapping paper each Christmas to go around the earth nine times, he is not about to start.

We wrap everything including Santa presents in a different paper. Have had to quickly once re wrap a gift from a relative as they had used our Santa paper! BlushSmile

Scarletttulips · 22/12/2023 14:28

Nope never wrapped stocking presents

Santa buys the stocking presents hence they are wrapped

He does not buy any tree presents.

I think this is where people are confused.

All the films show Santa wrapping gifts.

SausageCasseroles · 22/12/2023 14:29

Yes I think mine would ahve wondered why santa doesn't wrap presents when it's always shown that he does.

And looking in a stocking and seeing everything at once is nowhere near as fun as unwrapping everything. Mine love sitting on my bed unwrapping presents - really wouldn't eb the same if they could have a quick peek or just tip them out!

Shopper727 · 22/12/2023 14:30

I wrap some of them some not like my folks did for me stockings was my fave part of Christmas as a kid

AluckyEllie · 22/12/2023 14:31

I use patterned mini brown paper bags so only takes 2 mins to do. Pop in the bag, seal with a Santa sticker and good to go! This years bags have gingerbread men on 😂

TwinklingLightsEverywhere · 22/12/2023 14:32

I wrap a couple of the non edible things but it's mostly chocolate, sweets, bottle of shleur.

And yes, I do it in different paper too because it's not logical santa would have the sane paper. I actually made DH rewrap my present from him today because he used Santa's paper (and had to explain why, now he thinks I'm nuts, dc are teens 😂).

In your situation, can you use pages out of a magazine, or plastic packaging from a mail order delivery, or printer paper, or tissue paper, or unwrap something someone's given you and use that ? I'd leave unwrapped rather than going out to buy some.

sunflowerdaisyrose · 22/12/2023 14:34

Definitely wrap here - he only brings the stockings but wouldn't be the same if they weren't wrapped! The children come and sit on our bed and take it in turns to open them, it's my favourite but of Christmas watching them! I asked them earlier what they were most excited about and both said their stockings, even the one who knows Father Christmas isn't real. He only brings small gifts and chocolate 🍫

Junobug · 22/12/2023 14:39

Yes. 4 children here so stockings are wrapped in a different coloured tissue paper for each child and main presents are all in a different wrapping paper. This way I can wrap as I buy and I know what belongs to who and don't have to worry about tags.

No. It's environmentally wasteful.

🙄
Not about the kids then eh?

There's always one righteous one.

WolfFoxHare · 22/12/2023 14:40

God no. We never had stocking presents wrapped when I was little, so we haven’t done it.

All the films show Santa wrapping gifts.

Santa doesn't wrap anything in our tradition... Santa has no time to wrap millions of presents.

I think of all the Christmas films I remember watching in my life time, I only remember them specifically wrapping stuff in one and it was a modern one I watched with the kids.

Sometimes things appeared to be in gift boxes/bags/sacks under the tree but I always assume that was just 'American' as a kid like 'Thanksgiving'.

The stocking also isn't from 'Santa' here. Its just a traditional decoration in memory of the Saint.

megletthesecond · 22/12/2023 14:41

Never. It's time consuming and wasteful (it's already in a stocking).

Emmacb82 · 22/12/2023 14:42

Everything is wrapped apart from all the chocolate and the bottle of mr matey 🤣 different paper from all the rest which is then hidden away as my eldest is too observant! We have always used a pair of tights so it’s looks lovely when it’s all wrapped and stuffed. The stockings used to be the most exciting part of Christmas when I was a kid so I love recreating that for my own

blackberrychutney · 22/12/2023 14:42

No we don't wrap the stocking presents, I might put some shredded tissue paper in or some sequin sprinkles but no wrapping here.

Flubadubba · 22/12/2023 14:50

I feel for you- both DD aged 4 and I have elephantine memories 🤣

Definitely different wrapping paper if you care whether she still believes.

However, it's easy for me to say as I outsource all wrapping to DH. I buy the gifts as I enjoy it, and he enjoys(and is better at) wrapping...

marshmallowfinder · 22/12/2023 14:51

No. Absolute waste of time. Its fabulous without all that unnecessary paper.

stargirl1701 · 22/12/2023 15:31

@AngelAurora

It's very much about children. Let's hope they have a better environmental attitude than you do.

SarahLHs · 22/12/2023 15:49

Yes wrapped and always in different paper. My lightbulb moment that Santa wasn't real happened at about 8/9 years old, because my mum used the same paper as Santa!

AtillaTheHon · 22/12/2023 15:56

We use different paper for each child. Santa brings 3 x toys plus the stocking and we wrap everything except gift cards / things in envelopes.

It helps having different paper for each child as then you don't get that "oh shit, whose present was this again?" thing. We don't use gift tags as I find it too labour intensive. Wrapping them works better for me.

CocoPlum · 22/12/2023 15:56

I wrap the stocking presents with cheap paper, and a different one for each gift (the same few sheets have lasted me years). Only 5 small gifts per stocking (toothbrush, sticker sheet, etc) and 2 children though, so it's a very easy job.
