Do you wrap the stocking presents?

The story in our house is that presents in the Christmas stockings are from Santa. I've just realised that this means that I need separate wrapping paper for those presents especially since DD (7) picked the wrapping paper we've got at home herself this year and she's got a memory like an elephant. I don't really want to buy more wrapping paper though because we've already got tons at home and it will be difficult to get an opportunity to nip out without DD.

i do feel that wrapping adds to the anticipation and fun of presents though (even though not so great from an environmental point of view)

I'm Not even sure she still believes in Santa but she's very keen on keeping the illusion going I think so I don't want to ruin it for her by being inconsistent.

I just can't remember whether I wrapped them last year or not but it wasn't an issue.

What do you do in your house? Are the presents in the stocking wrapped?

Nope. I love wrapping gifts, usually make a real effort with cloth ribbons or hand printed paper etc. but I leave stocking stuffers alone. Think it looks exciting with the various items peeking out! In our house the stocking is the only thing from FC so it kinda makes sense it doesn't match what everyone else is giving.

Father Christmas fills the sacks (not massive, but bigger than stockings). Everything is wrapped apart from the chocolate coins. Each child has different paper (cheap and colourful).
Main presents are from us and are put under the tree, in different paper.

Veryverycalmnow · 22/12/2023 22:45

Use a bit of tissue paper for the stocking stuff, as it needs to be quick!

reluctantbrit · 22/12/2023 22:45

I wrap. DD's stocking are normal Santa presents but just small enough to go into her stocking. So part is there, part is under the tree.

She is 16 so obviously it doesn't matter anymore but it's just a thing we carry on.

Saying that, Santa paper is also used by DH for my presents.

Nope never wrapped stocking presents

Santa buys the stocking presents hence they are wrapped

He does not buy any tree presents.

I think this is where people are confused.

All the films show Santa wrapping gifts.

This. Santa doesn't bring any tree presents only the stocking. So all stocking presents must be wrapped in different paper.

HollyBerryCrumble · 22/12/2023 22:47

Yes wrapped in order to make it all last longer apart from anything else - we let them open stockings early in the morning but they need to wait until it’s a reasonable time to go downstairs for main presents!

sleepysummers · 22/12/2023 22:53

I never used to.

But I do now as it takes the kids that much longer which means I get some more time in bed 😂

DanceMumTaxi · 22/12/2023 22:56

Yes, all wrapped except sweets/chocs

Two of the best time saving tricks for my Christmas prep were Mumsnet posts saying use small jute bags and Christmas print paper bags for stocking presents.

I had stickers with “my children’s names and love Father Christmas” for the jute bags and different prints for each of them for the paper bags. They also have different paper for the bigger presents from Father Christmas and us so putting everything go out Christmas Eve is very simple and quick. No labels.

I have been using the bags for five years now and still have loads of the paper bags left to use. I have two different sizes.

I am ever grateful to the posters on the Mumsnet Christmas Bargains Threads but especially for this recommendation in 2018!

Yes wrapped - the unwrapping is the exciting bit.

ruralwanderer · 23/12/2023 09:04

I wrap the stocking presents from Santa in different paper. Thank heavens for cheapo paper from Card Factory Xmas Grin

SallyWD · 23/12/2023 09:10

I do

Doingmybest12 · 23/12/2023 09:16

We recycle the used paper from the year before, like from presents given to us ,for stocking presents. Wrapping is all haphazard , pretty untidy and it fits where it touches but all adds to it. Father Christmas Elves haven't time to wrap beautifully.

alloalloallo · 23/12/2023 09:16

I’ve always wrapped all stocking stuff except selection packs and chocolate coins.

Makes it all last a bit longer so we can sit with them with a coffee and wake up properly before the chaos of the day begins.

Father Christmas only brings small stocking stuff though, proper presents are wrapped and go under the tree and are from whoever bought it.

Mine are 18 and 22 and we still have stockings and I still wrap them in special Father Christmas paper. I think there would be a mutiny if I didn’t.

Doingmybest12 · 23/12/2023 09:19

Best is when last year's present was taken out leaving the paper as a pocket and you can just put something new inside and seal up the end .

NancyJoan · 23/12/2023 09:20

Yes. Santa only brings stockings here, other presents are from us. Always used to do different papers, then one year bought a job lot of small printed paper bags (like sweet shop bags) and now the stocking gifts go in those. What was hours of wrapping now takes a few minutes.

EvesamtsirhC · 23/12/2023 09:24

Not wrapped here. Our tradition is to have a mini soft toy sticking out the top of the stocking.

AutumnBride · 23/12/2023 09:41

Yes, I used to keep separate paper but don't know for my teen and young adult. I wrap most things but not Chocolate/sweets or things like face masks or lip balms.

kikisparks · 23/12/2023 13:33

There’s not much in 2 year old DD’s stocking this year as I bought her tights which take up loads of the space! But I have wrapped the tights, socks, bath crayons and bath toy, the chocolate lollipop and white chocolate bear won’t be wrapped (beyond their own packaging) though.

inappropriateraspberry · 23/12/2023 14:04

Yes, wrap anything that isn't too awkward or is chocolate coins, satsuma etc.
We have separate paper for stockings, as our children are far too observant!

inappropriateraspberry · 23/12/2023 14:05

It keeps them busy a little bit longer in the morning before we have to get up!

notforonesecond · 23/12/2023 14:16

Always. I wrap everything except chocolates. Although I did used to love the comedy of pulling out what was clearly a wrapped toblerone as a kid and doing the “oh I wonder what this could be” routine.

Stockings in our house are just filled with whatever fits though. There’s only 1 present from Santa each, usually a key request from their list, which I wrap in special paper and put a fancy ribbon on.

My kids are 5 and 7 though, so it’ll probably change a bit once they stop believing.
