Do you wrap the stocking presents?

The story in our house is that presents in the Christmas stockings are from Santa. I've just realised that this means that I need separate wrapping paper for those presents especially since DD (7) picked the wrapping paper we've got at home herself this year and she's got a memory like an elephant. I don't really want to buy more wrapping paper though because we've already got tons at home and it will be difficult to get an opportunity to nip out without DD.

i do feel that wrapping adds to the anticipation and fun of presents though (even though not so great from an environmental point of view)

I'm Not even sure she still believes in Santa but she's very keen on keeping the illusion going I think so I don't want to ruin it for her by being inconsistent.

I just can't remember whether I wrapped them last year or not but it wasn't an issue.

What do you do in your house? Are the presents in the stocking wrapped?

Yes but all wrapped in Christmas themed paper bags so it's just a pop it in and use a (named) label to stick it down. Quick and easy though dd has complained they are super noisy when trying to open at 2am.

Greenpolkadot · 22/12/2023 16:03

Yes in Christmas tissue.
I'm 68 and I still get a stocking full

Nepmarthiturn · 22/12/2023 17:19

Always wrapped, in different paper to the presents from me under the tree. The crackling and rustling of a stocking and ripping off the paper from lots of little surprises is the magic of it!

seagull82 · 22/12/2023 17:22

Bigger bits yes but chocolate coins and the like no. Always with separate paper. Good luck finding any though.. I went to Tkmaxx and poundstretcher this morning, completely sold out.

headcheffer · 22/12/2023 17:23

I do some wrapped and some not. Smaller things I don't wrap, bigger stuff I do. So a pack of hair clips not wrapped, but a colouring book would be. Different paper of course!

Nepmarthiturn · 22/12/2023 17:24

For the presents from me I use lots of different wrapping paper because it is nice to have a variety of colours and patterns but I use stickers to show which presents are for which child. This year one has star or gingerbread man stickers on their presents and the other one has snowman or reindeer stickers. That way they can't guess which ones are theirs before the day when they sneak a peak under the tree!

FC has his own wrapping paper in this house.
Which reminds me - I haven’t bought it yet…!

AllAroundMyCat · 22/12/2023 17:31

I've never wrapped stocking presents. The stocking is the wrapping.
Only presents get wrapped here.

Sunnydays41 · 22/12/2023 17:46

Yep, definitely! Makes it last longer and adds to the intrigue 🤣

I just use tissue paper though, cheaper and don't have to wrap them properly (usually all wrapped out by the time I get to stockings). Red for one DC, green for the other.

You could probably get some tissue paper on Amazon for delivery tomorrow or Sunday.

muddyford · 22/12/2023 17:49

Definitely.

Funderthighs · 22/12/2023 17:58

Our stocking gifts are always wrapped but we use whatever scraps of left over paper & ends of rolls that are lying round. We’ve never done of the separate wrapping paper stuff, everything just gets wrapped in whatever paper. Santa has access to the same papers as you see in the shops 😉

SingaporeSlinky · 22/12/2023 19:00

I keep a stash of red tissue paper and also bought a pack of 100 red striped paper bags, that I close with stickers rather than tape. My kids have commented on wrapping paper before, either seeing it in shops or other relatives having the same as I use, so would definitely give the game away if Santa used the same paper as me. I figure tissue is completely different.

Saxonlady · 22/12/2023 19:04

I buy jute draw string bags from Amazon and the stocking pressies go in them. Think this is the 6th year of reusing them. A few have lost their string but otherwise they are going strong.

SnowsFalling · 22/12/2023 19:07

No wrapping here.
If the stocking stuff is wrapped, how can the kids unpack the first few items to see what's in there at 4am, before re-packing to show to Mum and Dad at 6am????

Spirallingdownwards · 22/12/2023 19:09

Yes and the year my DS said it was the same paper as ours I told him We had to send the paper to Father Christmas if we wanted them wrapped

Lovemusic82 · 22/12/2023 21:49

I wrap stocking gifts, mainly because dd2 wakes up so early so I let her open her stocking in her room whist I stay in bed, stockings are only tiny gifts and chocolate (nothing over £4). It gives me extra time in bed so it’s totally worth it.

SausageinaBun · 22/12/2023 22:06

Stocking presents don't get wrapped. Everything else goes in gift bags that are reused every birthday and Christmas. Anything really big goes under a blanket.

I spent a whole day wrapping when I was on maternity leave with DD2. The next year, I was back at work, so didn't have a whole day to spend wrapping, so switched to gift bags. The idea of doing all of that wrapping makes me panic. I also hate the mess and waste of wrapping paper.

TheTripThatWasnt · 22/12/2023 22:15

We save large pieces of wrapping paper from big presents and they go in the loft with all the Christmas decs and get used for stockings the following year. So no new paper is used but everything gets wrapped.

No. It's environmentally wasteful.

🙄🙄🙄🙄

No. It's environmentally wasteful.

Not having one at all would be more eco friendly.

CharlotteBog · 22/12/2023 22:31

I wrap them, apart from choc coins and satsuma.
It makes opening last a bit longer while we're all in the big bed.
They make me a cuppa and it's a lovely start to the day.

Good save!

Greydogs123 · 22/12/2023 22:36

I’ve always used tissue paper, wrap pretty loosely and the smallest amount of tape needed. It’s rips off very easily and is much quicker.

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/12/2023 22:37

I haven't got time to wrap bloody stocking fillers. It's a gift bag in itself.

Didiplanthis · 22/12/2023 22:38

I put them in little reusable gift bags. Mine are on their 5th or 6th year... and it saves me HOURS... all other presents in different bigger reusable gift bags ! Some are plastic which worried me initially but I've not thrown out wrapping for years now.... fold and store for next year !! My best wrapping looks like a 4 yr old did it anyway....
