My dog remembered!

She had an advent calendar last year. A wooden one with dog treats in.

I was sat chatting away to her last night and I said 'it's nearly Christmas, we'll have to get your advent calendar ready!'

And as soon as she heard advent calendar she jumped up looking at me, jumped off the couch and ran to place where it was kept and looked up like it would be there!

Dogs are so smart!!

Every time I walk my do past our local primary school, my dog is absolutely desperate to go into the gate because once back in 2018 there was a gentleman with treats for people who brought their dogs for #dogsatpollingstations.

It happened once. Five years ago. We only walk past the school a couple of times a month but every single time she remembers and wants to go in.

This is so cute!

My dog remembers the exact spots 2-3 years ago she once found a) a creepy giant bone in the woods and b) a dropped donner kebab on the street. We do these routes quite often and without fail she will always thoroughly check those areas Grin she also knows the difference between all my shoes. So my regular boring trainers for taking DC to school get no reaction, and when I get the 'muddy' trainers out I wear for her walks, she gets very happy.

When I was primary school age, we had an old family retainer who accompanied my DF everywhere, including to sleep at the foot of the bed. Once, my DPs went out for the evening past dog-approved bedtime. DDog took matters into his own paws. DPs came home to find that the dog had taken a magazine from the coffee table and put it on the bedside table, removed DFs PJs from under the pillow (hadn't quite managed to put them on), and was in bed, under the covers, head on DF's pillow.

That's adorable! 🐶

if that doesn’t work I get the disappointed paw on the knee - ‘It’s ten past lunchtime, love. I’m trying not to make a fuss but FFS …’.

I can't get that image out of my head 😂😂

I've just bought my first doggy advent calendar, it's wooden aswell with dogs painted on it and I've bought little treats to go in it . Nearly time . I'm very excited for it , they don't have a clue lol

My dog knows the cheese tax song. We just have to him a couple of notes and she comes running!
She gets very excited about her 10pm garden visit. Dh just has to say the time and she sneezes in excitement and runs to the door

This is the most wholesome thread ever!
Your pooches all sound so wonderful.,

Marshtit · 30/11/2023 07:43

my ddog stops at the seat on the way as she thinks we will sit there, like dh often does, she stops at the doctors surgery in case we pop in to drop off a prescription.
you only have to think about having a walk and she is there

Marshtit · 30/11/2023 07:49

my grandpa's dog used to walk to the train station and meet him off the train,

My neighbour often walks my dogs. He usually rings beforehand to check that I don't have a client with me. When I answer the phone and say "hello Paddy" they sit up and look at me. If I say sorry not right now they lie back down but if I say "oh yes" they run to the front door and spin around 😁

This is such a lovely thread! My dog remembers where she once encountered a prawn sandwich and checks the vicinity daily in case there are others. She also looks lovingly down the driveway of our friend's house where she once had a bite of wagyu burger at a bbq.

She knows when DS is about to return from school and checks the window until he appears. Somehow she can also tell the difference between our car and our neighbours car (identical, often park in the same spot on the street) and gets excited when dh approaches but not bothered when it's our neighbour. No idea how she can tell the difference.

My dog knows that if I stand up and pick up my phone, it means I'm going to another room/changing activities so naturally she should jump up and shadow me, walking over my heels as I use the stairs Hmm

But if I stand up and don't pick up my phone, it just means I'm getting a tea/using the loo etc. so she stays asleep in her basket! Madness.

This is why I haven’t bought my dog an advent calendar because he remembers everything and he’d expect one every day!

When my son comes home from school he recognises that as snack time, he runs to the cupboard where we keep his treats and he sits next to the table eating it whilst my son has his after school snack 😂

OldTinHat · 30/11/2023 08:33

My old Ddog used to find his own presents under the tree, rip the paper off and bring the present to me to remove the packaging off it.

Miss him every day!

Mine listens to me on Teams calls. She looks up hopefully when I say goodbye. If I open another call and say hello she flops down again, disappointed…

She learnt recently that cars have cats under them. Well one did anyway. Now all cars might have cats under them so must be checked.
