My dog remembered!

She had an advent calendar last year. A wooden one with dog treats in.

I was sat chatting away to her last night and I said 'it's nearly Christmas, we'll have to get your advent calendar ready!'

And as soon as she heard advent calendar she jumped up looking at me, jumped off the couch and ran to place where it was kept and looked up like it would be there!

Dogs are so smart!!

Mine understood presents, we are one of those much frowned upon families that take turns opening Christmas presents.

He would wait patiently and then on his turn very gently unwrap his present and then put it is his basket and then sit and wait watching the next person unwrap. God I miss him.

So lovely 😊

My dog watched me wrap a new toy for her and put it under the tree. A few days later she retrieved it and unwrapped it. Toy was gound (minus ears) in her bed.

That’s really cute.

My dog is as thick as two short planks.

(I love him, though, nonetheless.)

Though so far it has only borne one fruit, the magic pork-pie bush will never be forgotten and has to be daily checked.

😁😁😁

Tygertiger · 28/11/2023 20:19

My dog knows the sound Teams makes when you end a call - that’s his cue to get up as I’ll be going to make a brew (where the treats live).

He knows “slipper” and will fetch my slippers from anywhere in the house for me. He also knows the kids’ names and will go and wake either of them up in the morning if I tell him which one to go to.

FoxClocks · 28/11/2023 20:19

I don't know if she will remember it but my dog certainly seemed to understand the advent calendar. We thought she would just see it as a normal treat but she seemed to think it was special and never begged for a second treat like she does with one from her regular treat tin.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 28/11/2023 20:21

My dog recognises when we get ready to go out in our outdoor clothes - but he also knows that if I pick up my handbag it means he won't be coming . Filling my rucksack OTOH meant big excitement.

MrsElba · 28/11/2023 20:22

This goes down as one of my favourite threads! My two also know indoor vs outdoor vs dog walking clothes. And it never fails to amaze me that I could set my clock by them come teatime

Dragonfly97 · 28/11/2023 20:24

🥰 I love these! My sweet Ddog stopped outside the door of our old house when we passed it on a walk; it's 6 years since we moved!!

Pollyparkin · 28/11/2023 20:41

My Ddog knows my dog walking shoes and if I occasionally can't be arsed and wear regular bouts and he gets to go out anyway, it's such a treat. He can hear cooked meat packets (for packed lunches ( being opened from upstairs and thunders down. I bloody love him

Adorable!

My dog can correctly find the slippers of five different people and bring them to their owner 😆 it’s very sweet, she does it as soon as you get home

That's amazing!

This is the sweetest thing!

Love this thread so much. I don't have a dog (not practical on so many levels) but reading these posts is exactly the lovely parts of dog-owning I imagine. (Unlike my occasional forays to the Doghouse section, where some of the threads fill me with fear!)

Crochetablanket · 28/11/2023 21:04

Some of these are pure gold!

My dog will always appear when I start chopping carrots ( she loves them!)
She gets up from her basket (where she’s been sleeping all evening ) at 10:30 pm on the dot … to go to bed.

Sadly she also loves cow pats, dead rabbits, discarded pizzas and the post.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 28/11/2023 21:04

Another indoor/outdoor clothes dawg here. Also gets a bit antsy if I ever appear with make-up on as he knows I’ll be off out shortly and lipstick means he’s a lot less likely to be coming with!

The thing that really amazes me is his Dog Clock. He’ll automatically come and let me know within a minute or two of any significant time. Tbf this is mainly his own mealtimes, but also school pick ups, DH getting home, dinner prep time, etc. He’ll come and stare, unblinking, to chivvy me along, and if that doesn’t work I get the disappointed paw on the knee - ‘It’s ten past lunchtime, love. I’m trying not to make a fuss but FFS …’.

When the clocks go forward or back he’s totally bewildered for about a week, bless him.

Cutest thing he ever did was as a puppy, watching sheepdog herding on TV. They disappeared off the side of the screen and he ran round the back of the telly to see where they’d gone! Aww, love my sweet boy.

My lovely GSD got teased by a squirrel up a tree when she was barely a year old, swinging above her head and running back and forth - it only happened the once.
Every single time after that (she lived to 12 years old) she would look up to the tree for that squirrel! She never forgot!

StarDolphins · 28/11/2023 21:10

My dog knows which (out of 6) of the Tesco delivery guys give him a treat. He sleeps through all the others saying morning & chatting but that one…straight off the sofa & straight to the door!

He also know what time we leave for school pickup, every day at 2.20pm, he wakes up, stretches, jumps off the sofa & waits by the door.

My dog knows the difference between 'indoor' and 'outdoor' clothes. If I get dressed in clothes I typically wear around the house, no reaction. If I put on clothes I wear to go out he gets excited.

My dog knows work clothes v day off clothes..😅

Isabelle70 · 28/11/2023 21:41

My Ddog loves the FaceTime ring tone and thinks anyone that may call wants to speak to him. Once he has heard and looked at who it is he will go back to his daily business.

Sidebeforeself · 28/11/2023 21:42

@EarringsandLipstick Me too! I have an imaginary dog os I cant have one in real life!

Yes, to the cooked meat packets being opened. That brings both Ddog and Dcat running in our house. I pick ds3 up from work at 9pm on a Monday and Wednesday. At 8.30 on these days Ddog starts pestering me and won’t give me a minutes peace until we go out to the car. I have no idea how he knows the day or the time.

BringMeTea · 28/11/2023 21:51

Best Thread Ever! 💙

allgood3 · 28/11/2023 21:57

My now 13 year old d dog has been the most excited on Christmas morning for a few years. He continues the tradition of standing outside the lounge door and cries as it's opened and runs to his stocking, then shows everyone what he has got, walking around with it crying in his mouth while 20 year olds unwrap their presents!😂 He really does keep the magic of having a young child at Christmas alive!

Andylippy1 · 28/11/2023 21:59

Our dog knows exactly each day when it is breakfast time 7.45am, lunch 12 noon, tea at 5pm amd mini supper at 10pm! His body clock for his meals is so fantastic!!
