Starting this in Reastie’s absence. Hope that’s ok.

@Blessedbethefruitz I'm pretty sure it's £6 odd in sainsbury's

KittenBiscuit · 29/10/2023 22:29

First-timer on these threads and just want to say thank you so much for everyone's tips - I've got some great bargains from Sainsburys toys, Aldi, Lidl, Tu clothing and others!

Wanted to share a tip for anyone thinking of getting stuff from Etsy. I've found that if you add things to your basket and then leave it for a few days, lots of sellers will send through a discount to encourage you to buy, usually 10% but sometimes more. Managed to save a few pounds on some of the personalised gifts I needed!

Blessedbethefruitz · 29/10/2023 22:44

@kkr168 thanks but I don't have a big supermarket local and don't drive :( I'm mainly online alas.

Do we think a Furby is going to come down in price at all on Black Friday or is Amazon at £59 likely to be the best deal?

sylvanianflower · 29/10/2023 22:50

For any cooks out there's, Rebecca Wilson Family comforts is £3.60 on Amazon, I bought this book when it was £15 and well worth it

@AlbertCampion you won't get a deal on a PlayStation. Order one as soon as you can as they do go out of stock. The games take a while (as in several hours) to download. Therefore, you might want to get it all set up before Xmas Day. On the other hand, you might want to interact with your child on Xmas Day which is easier to do if the game is downloading so they can't actually play it! Depending on where your DC will be when playing, I highly recommend a head set. That way, when playing with a group of friends, you can only hear your DC which is less annoying than hearing your DC and all of their friends.

AlbertCampion · 29/10/2023 23:23

Thanks @wideawakeinthemiddleofthenightagain. We've decided to go for it and have ordered a bundle with a second controller. It's a combined Birthday/Christmas present so we might get a head set for Christmas as an extra accessory.

Another probably stupid question: if we're buying second-hand games, will PS4 games work on a PS5?

ILikeTrueCrime · 30/10/2023 00:13

Yes, PS4 games work on ps5

buckeejit · 30/10/2023 00:14

@AlbertCampion yes defo get a bundle. Discounts are rare so try finding best retailer through topcash back etc

Withdrawn at poster's request

Valentte always seems to have an offer of some sort on. Currently it's BOGOF on their gift boxes.

IHeartKingThistle · 30/10/2023 00:52

@AlbertCampion DS has a PS5 and mostly pays for games online and downloads them straight onto the console. He almost never plays a physical disc. You can get a subscription to PlayStation Plus I think it's called, but the big games are pricey however you do it and those are the ones he wants - he spends his birthday money on the newest FIFA game every year because his friends all play it. I do not know how it all works in detail though! PS4 discs do work in it of course, but that's not really the point of the PS5, at least not as far as the teenagers I know are concerned! Sorry if you knew all this and I had the wrong end of the stick!

wibdib · 30/10/2023 01:25

@buckeejit i bought an iPhone 13 Pro from GiffGaff around the time the iPhone 14 came out.
I bought a refurbished best quality and I swear it could have been brand new - it was immaculate. I was planning on getting the 256GB but when they had a 512GB that was less than the 256GB version it was a no brainer to get it.
id been tracking iPhone prices for refurbished phones as I’ve had several over the years and never been disappointed but this was a crazy good deal (I still wonder if they mistyped the price and thought it was for a 256GB version!). I paid less than 2/3 of the full price for the new 256GB version of the phone, so it’s worth watching and being ready to jump if you see a great offer - they don’t hang around too long.
I've also had great refurbished phones from Music Magpie. I’ve bought from them do I have a happy balance between price and model - plus they’ve come with a good guarantee included (I seem to think I got a 2 yr guarantee with this which was longer than getting it from apple!),
Would I like a brand new iPhone - well yes but much happier with a £600 discount!, especially when the phone seemed in such great as new condition.

it’s worth tracking refurbished phone prices in the run up to Black Friday on the big sites as they have to compete with people buying new stuff for presents - they often have extra offers to knock prices down even further.

it’s also worth looking for a good mobile phone sim only deal on Black Friday/cyber Monday if you’re able to buy the phone without needing to be tied into a contract as there are often great offers to be had!

I hope they do that wreath again for £20 on Amazon. I missed it last time.

nicky2512 · 30/10/2023 06:51

@ConsuelaHammock thank you so much for checking for me. I really appreciate it.
And thanks @Seasonofthewitches I will try that.

lotsofthingstolearn · 30/10/2023 07:00

Just adding to the conversation about PS5. Watch Smyths (if people can hold their nerve.) Their last deal ended on 12th October but we got FC24, Hogwarts and PS5 for £439. The console was £409 with £20 for the game

Magik01 · 30/10/2023 07:13

@NNat yes Valentte are still doing the free trip, just pay postage. I ordered it last week. Here’s the link. Free smelly trio clicky

also, has anyone been worried our Reastie, she’s not been here since the other thread. (I think). I hope she’s okay!

I got one at £60 as I saw they're on this years top 10 list and was worried they'd run out!

The entertainer gives a good deal.

ThreeB · 29/10/2023 17:21

One of the B's is very sad that his Granny has just refused to buy him a snuggle hoodie for Xmas 🤣

No wonder he's upset, looks like such a big beastie tiny little scrap of a wee doggy, I'm sure he really feels the cold 😁

Hibernatalie · 30/10/2023 07:47

@Givemeahigh give the entertainer a go

Currently have a big toy sale plus another 10% off sale items with the code on the website

Martinisarebetterdirty · 30/10/2023 07:47

@Magik01 I’m sure @Reastie popped on to say she’d been at work which is why she didn’t start the thread so I think she’s ok.
