Hello,

I would like a honest opinion do these pricing look fair or they are taking me for a mug. I thought we would hire a Christmas decorators to decorate our home thinking it would be practical to have a company set it up and take it down.
The final pricing remains the same whether you keep the decorations for 2 weeks or 2 months. The contract will be for 2-4 years the final price is payable every year.

Staircase garlands £1100
Outside doorway garland £550
Kitchen garland for above cupboards £550
Inside lights for glass (both areas) £1700
Living room fireplace garland £275
Inside 8ft tree , fully lit and decorated £950
Drive lights for pathway£180
Icicle lights for roofline and top windows £420
Access equipment to install lights and take them down £500
Total price £6225
Plus vat @£1245

FINISHED PRICE £7470Confused

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee Absolutely. But will he wear the velvet chaps? 👀

There are children in my daughter’s class at school who are actually homeless & several others who are living in poor quality housing. That’s all I can think when I read this post.

This. I took some stuff to our local foodbank - asked what items they particularly needed and was told stuff that people who were living in their cars could eat. There's something terribly wrong with our society.

Kendodd · 11/09/2023 21:31

I think it sounds like a bargain.
For another 7k you could hire me to come over, open all the presents and eat your Christmas dinner for you. You wouldn't have to do a thing.

SushiSuave · 11/09/2023 21:34

If you're unsure then you should definitely pay it. You can clearly afford it so why not make the company's Christmas by spending a disgusting amount of money on decorations?

Or consider donating to a food bank or present bank to help all the families that can't afford a gift for their kids or a decent hot meal on Christmas Day.... priorities right?

viques · 11/09/2023 21:35

For that amount I would want Halloween, Valentine’s Day and Easter decorations thrown in.

Scoobyblue · 11/09/2023 21:35

Do it yourself for a few hundred pounds max and donate the rest to your local foodbank. Make a difference to other people at Christmas time.

ItJustFellOutLikeWordVomit · 11/09/2023 21:36

What the fucking fuck haha I will decorate your house, take it down, dress up as Santa and sit in your selected area 9-5, £5k for 2 weeks 😂😂 xx

For 7.5k I'd want Tom Hardy to come down my chimney dressed as Father Christmas in red velvet chaps and do me over a mince pie and brandy.

🤣🤣

Can you buy that service?

Asking for a friend.

User19543785 · 11/09/2023 21:37

It might all look a bit too matchy matchy

Galatine · 11/09/2023 21:38

I just hope that your not my neighbour!!!

Speedweed · 11/09/2023 21:38

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 11/09/2023 21:25

I know someone who looks like the Wish version on Tom Hardy and I think I could get him to do this for £2K if you're interested?

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee I know times are tough and all, but I think pimping out your husband might be against MN site rules? 😂

Hopeandmoss · 11/09/2023 21:40

All I can think of is that your house will look like a department store at Christmas. By all means buy a beautiful tree and decorations and a few gorgeous signature bits (maybe £1k) buy some fab outside lights and pay the local window cleaner to put them up for you (£500 if you go really mad) then make it a tradition to give £500 every Christmas to a local charity - hospice, food bank etc to make some people’s Christmases really memorable. So much cheaper and so much more worthy.

Brilliant

ItJustFellOutLikeWordVomit · 11/09/2023 21:40

Also if Tom Hardy is there I will do all of the abound and pay you £5k 😂

N4ish · 11/09/2023 21:41

This post is definitely going to be picked up by the Daily Mail - peak Mumsnet.

KnobbingtonKnobberson · 11/09/2023 21:42

I think for 7k you're more likely to get a be-chapped Les Dennis rather than a be-chapped Tom Hardy.

NDWifeandMan · 11/09/2023 21:43

Well this is in London and a load cheaper jsut for the tree. Not sure why yours is so expensive

@Sunseaandsand1 @Unusualactualname oh give over. You do realise that the decorators are also doing a job and have families to feed too?
Unless you're willing to live on solely the essentials, have zero luxuries and give all your money anyway no need for such supercilious comments.

Isitautumnyet23 · 11/09/2023 21:43

Not judging anyone, but that does seem like an astronomical amount for decorations. Theres some amazing shops you can go to (or online) and I can imagine you could spend a tenth of that (if that!) and still make your house look amazing.

But to get a quote in the first place, I imagine you must have a very high income. We have a decent income and literally have plastic tubs in the loft with decorations we put up ourselves. If you are going for the Stacey Solomon/Amanda Holden level of decorations, then I imagine 7.5k its not that astronomical.

CheshireCat1 · 11/09/2023 21:43

There’ll be no leccy left for the rest of us.

bossybloss · 11/09/2023 21:43

Get down to Wilko ! There’s a sale on 🤣🤣

Nonplusultra · 11/09/2023 21:44

How much were you expecting it to be @Cleo888 ?

AldiDupes · 11/09/2023 21:44

A thread that begins with expensive Christmas decorations and ends with pimping out Tom Hardy. Brilliant.

Pinkfluff76 · 11/09/2023 21:44

£550 for a garland! Is it made of gold?!

Mammyloveswine · 11/09/2023 21:45

Ffs just put a tree in the living room, garland over the fireplace... cares up and lights and candles.
